  1. This board has a strange obsession with wanting to replace Ryan Theriot with an inferior player. As for the other guys, Sheets is really the only name that interests me. Assuming he doesn't already have an agreement with the Rangers I could see Hendry making a play for him
  2. You missed Gregg too.
  3. Its probably been mentioned but Farnsworth kicking the crap out of Paul Wilson in Cincy was a lot of fun.
  4. Wow thanks for bringing that up. I was at that game on a field trip for school! I believe that was also the longest 9 inning game in NL history. Scott Downs got rocked.
  5. Kubel isn't going anywhere, he's an absolute bargain for the Twins. Check out his numbers against righties this year. He's more of a DH anyways. Absolutely no to Delmon Young. He's awful defensively and his plate discipline has doomed him in the big leagues. He's basically a poor man's Milton Bradley.
  6. In the NL the only GM who I would definitely take over Hendry is Beinfest . I think you can lump Hendry in with guys like O'Dowd, Wren, Colleti, and Mozeliak. All the others are either worse or unproven.
  7. It appears America is not fond of Chip Caray. http://deadspin.com/5377549/fisting-chip-caray
  8. Only way this makes sense is if Burrell is a bench guy. There's no chance the Cubs would play him in RF.
  9. I think Aaron Miles awfulness has already been detailed extensively on this board. He was awful, let's move on with our lives.
  10. I think some people just used Dempster as an excuse to bash Hendry. I guess they didn't realize Dempster had a pretty good year.
  11. I hate the Cards as much as much anybody but I think both Carpenter and Wainwright deserve it over Lincecum.
  12. Awful deal by Hendry, no excuses. However, you guys are reaching with Eyre and Aardsma. Aardsma was traded about 10 years ago and sucked with 3 different teams and Eyre sure looked washed up when we traded him. For the pen next year I'd like to see something like this: Marmol Guzman Grabow Caridad Marshall Gaub Stevens No need to waste money on a free agent when we have plenty of in house options.
  13. I'm surprised Shapiro is still around. They've made the playoffs once in the last 7 or 8 years.
  14. Trade has absolutely no chance of happening. Even if this trade was even the slightest bit feasable the Rays make out like absolute bandits. Upton has sucked this year and they get all that back for him?
  15. I know he isn't a hall of famer but Theriot really should never be mentioned in the same sentence as Aaron Miles.
  16. Harden shut himself down. I probably would offer arbitration to him but I certainly don't think it's ridiculous if the Cubs don't. People said Hendry was crazy for not offering Wood arbitration and that turned out to be the only good move he made all off-season.
  17. http://muskat.mlblogs.com/archives/2009/09/924_harden_done_for_season.html He's officially done for the year.
  18. I have absolutely no interest in Burrell and I doubt the Cubs do either. Upton is a guy I expect Hendry to target. I'd deal Cashner and a B prospect for him.
  19. What's to be gained by having him pitch more this year? What are the potential positives and the potential negatives? Do the risks outweigh the rewards? How about the potential benefit of getting another young starter a couple starts in the bigs before the end of the season? I don't really know that there is anything to be gained by it, but that's baseball. The Cubs have to play the rest of their schedule and someone has to start the games. Wells doesn't appear to be fatigued, 2 more quality starts would be a nice finish to his season. I don't really know who else we could start, Shark is getting a chance tonight.
  20. Because his job is to pitch. Unless it's a stud young prospect or a guy in his mid 30's I don't see the need to ever shutdown a pitcher who isn't hurt.
  21. I really hope people don't lose any sleep over Paul Sullivan's speculation. Relax people.
  22. This is absolutely the right decision. Of course, I think there were rumblings of unrest with Upton in Tampa, so I'm sure Hendry won't even bother looking. Yea, his effort has been questioned by a number of people and he hasn't had a good year. I still think he's a guy that's going to be a very solid player, we saw glimpses of it in the post-season last year. But after the Bradley experience I guess it wouldn't be a surprise to see the Cubs shy away from guys with perceived character issues. That and BJ is one of those dreaded right-handers. .
  23. As I mentioned in another thread I'm betting Hendry looks to Tampa. I think they move Upton in the off-season and Hendry makes a serious play for him.
  24. I'm happy for Tyler. He was left for dead by a lot of Cubs fans and responded with a nice second half. I'd be thrilled if he could become a similar player to someone like Luke Scott.
