  1. Greinke would make this team competitive for the division at least and if the cubs could make the playoffs they would have a solid 3 man rotation so who knows. I would definitely offer 1 of Archer or McNutt, Colvin, and 2 lower level prospects. I am growing more and more interested in Mark Reynolds, if he does not cost too much to acquire (which it doesnt sound like it). He could be a huge pickup and his ability to take over 3B next year would be valuable.
  2. What's sad is that some Cubs fans would even get excited if it didn't happen. Like we might actually have a shot. Ha! Yea.. I am pretty sure if the Red Sox are balking at an extension price for Agon the Cubs would not be able to reach what he wants.
  3. So now this trade may not happen according to mlbtraderumors
  4. Butler would not be the worst option and its possible his HR totals could reach the low to mid 20's. He is young and has a great bat, possbily with hitting him between Ramirez and Soriano (whoever hits 5th) could be beneficial for him.
  5. Grabow + Shark .... done deal! No but seriously, I would be interested in Reynolds but if two relievers is the requirement I am not sure if he is worth Marshall or Marmol and beyond that the Cubs do not have 2 proven relievers. I would be interested in using Reynolds versatility to spell 3B and possibly LF when Sori sits.
  6. Obviously we have mentioned risks such as Gordon, Kila, Nick Johnson, Loney, Branyan, Pena, Colvin. Has anyone thought about Nick Swisher? I was hearing a few weeks back the Yankees would like to move him and he would be a pretty safe bet to hit .260/.370/.450. Could be a better option than most and his ability to play some OF would not hurt for season, although I believe this is his free agent year. My only concern with the deal is that I think Swish is kind of a DBag of the field but his production has been solid if not very good other than his year with the white sox. Thoughts...
  7. Boston radio station stating its Iglesias, Kelly, Rizzo and 2 high quality lower minor leaguers. What would be comparable from us? Jackson, Archer, Vitters, Dolis, and another? If thats what it takes I would almost pass. I know its Agon but the Cubs are going to need to fill some positions from within. Keep an eye out for Fielder next year and possibly Morneau in the future(providing concussions do not end his career).
  8. I am still on the Pena 1 year deal bandwagon unless the Cubs can get Gordon, call me crazy but if you could get him without giving up any top prospects I would not hesitate to give Loney and shot, maybe a change of scenary could help.
  9. Well this really sucks... Just go all out for pitching now, trade Wells, McNutt, Lee, Dolis (Something around there) for Greinke, sign Webb. Z Demp Greinke Webb Silva / Coleman / Archer / Whoever
  10. Gonzo does not make that much, they can afford him and with all of the money coming off of the books after this season, they can afford a long term extension with him.
  11. I agree, not sure about urinating on him but I cannot see how the Cubs do not have the pieces to make a trade. I know ideally you would like to sign him and not give up anything but he is the guy I think the Cubs need to snag some how.
  12. Yeaaa, this would definitely suck. He will not hit the free agent market if this deal gets done.
  13. R.I.P Ronny, you will be missed. A very sad way to start the day.
  14. I would rather have Agon for 3-5 mil more per year.
  15. Anyone else in camp with bringing in Diaz as a RH bat off the bench and possible platoon in RF? .340/.384/.540 3 year splits vs lefties. Brave's did not tender him a contract making him a free agent. Could be a solid bench player, although I will admit I do not know much about his defensive skills.
  16. Those stats are nice but how many runs does he drive in with his glove?
  17. "I like this move. The Riot isn't great, but if you're going to put scrappers on the team, he's on the upper end of that spectrum." This is a quote offer of the GatewayRedbirds board. This may be the funniest yet!
  18. Any speculation on who we should look forward to seeing getting a large amount of playing time this spring? (i.e. Colvin, Castro last season) I imagine Chirinos, Castillo, Guyer, Jackson. Any others?
  19. While I am happy to hear this... he sadly is an upgrade to their current short stop situation, so any upgrade for the cardinals does not thrill me. Lets hope McGwire tries to make Theriot pull the bull therefore he can show off his warning track power and his lack of plate patience.
  20. Any projection system worth its salt is going to have some kind of adjustment for age. That being said, I honestly don't know what kind of age-related adjustments the Handbook might make. We can see what the other systems say about them, but I highly doubt any system would justify employing DeWitt over Hudson. I don't think DeWitt has what it takes to justify being a regular player at second, especially next season. If his bat develops a lot more in the next couple of years, he might be a decent option for a bargain third baseman, but he's getting old enough that it doesn't seem very likely. I'm not saying he won't improve at all, but I don't think he'll improve enough. I am having a hard time believing this, if Hendry wanted Hudson there was a need for him 2 years ago and Hendry could have signed him. This sounds like the Padilla speculation. I would not get my panties in a bunch over this rumor.
  21. This would make me happy if its a 1 year deal.
  22. But the White Sox won a world series with Scotty Pods! He has to be a good player.
  23. Hopefully that sets the mark for 1 year deals for pitchers like Vasquez, Webb, Harang etc...
  24. All the more reason to take a few chances on players like a Carlos Pena, keep the prospects and go into next year with money to spend in a much deeper 1B free agent market. The only thing that keeps me from thinking that this is Hendry's plan is the likelyhood that if the Cubs suck this year Hendry will be job searching.
  25. If that's all it takes, the Marlins are incredibly dumb. That is pure insanity. Trade a very solid offensive player INSIDE your division for a "solid" part time player and a lefty reliever. The Braves just robbed the Marlins.
