  1. Mirotic is already #1 among rookies in PER, and his +/- in this game is off the charts. I can't see Thibs giving him meaningful SF minutes, but they need to find a way to keep him on the floor as much as possible.
  2. Who do you see finishing games then? Dunleavy is really the only other option and while that's better, it's not exactly going to cause panic around the league.
  3. Nothing is wrong with Dunleavy - as a 15-20 MPG role-player off the bench. He's slow, unathletic and barely passable on defense. And it's Kirk - statistically one of the least efficient players in any regular rotation this year - who's finishing games. The Bulls are generally not athletic enough as is, but when depending on those two guys for 30+ minutes it's an even bigger problem. As for Brooks, what was glossed over in the unsustainable offensive brilliance he showed in the 4th last night is that he's a terrible defensive liability, and there's pretty much no way Thibs can use that backcourt down the stretch very often and certainly not in the postseason. I like Brooks for what he is - an offensive sparkplug who can break down defenses when Rose is on the bench. But a Rose-Brooks backcourt is not a major part of the solution.
  4. I wonder if the Cubs would consider trying to get Alex Rios on a one-year deal. He's RH and he's no star, but he's not terrible - probably a better everyday LF than any of their in-house options.
  5. Uh, yes? They're kinda really good everywhere else so yeah. That's pure fantasy, but believe what you want.
  6. I think it's pretty fair to say McDermott looked completely overmatched and below NBA quality in those 17 games. The unknown is how much the knee might have been contributing to that.
  7. That's a pretty loose definition of "everybody". But in any event, McDermott being gone for at least a few months means he's effectively finished for the season as a potentially useful piece. That makes the urgency in finding another wing player that much more desperate.
  8. This is just.......I don't even know. Why would you get rid of one of them? There's a ton of different ways to use them all depending on match ups and on top of that, you've got guys in Noah and Gibson who go so hard every time out there that they get banged up and need rest. It would be asinine to get rid of one of them, especially right now. Maybe because the Bulls are woefully weak on the wing, and trading one of the bigs for one is probably going to be the only way to find a player who can make an impact? Do you think the Bulls are going to worry Cleveland, never mind any good Western team, with Dunleavy starting and Kirk playing 30 plus a night? As for Thibs burying Mirotic, look at the one game last week where everyone played - Mirotic was at 8 minutes. And that was coming off his best run of the season. And Thibs pronouncing that all the other bigs are "way better". Even yesterday, Mirotic had only 19 minutes - in which he was plus-20 and had 15 and 9 - and Thibs played Gibson 45 minutes. Thibs is who he is. Sometimes he has to be saved from himself. No matter what Mirotic does he'll never get run unless Thibs has no choice. And without another veteran wing Butler is going to average 40 minutes all season and be useless (like last year) by playoff time.
  9. It sounds funny to say when the three bigs have all missed time, but the Bulls have a real problem unless they trade one of them: they need Mirotic to get serious minutes, and Thibs will absolutely bury him in the playoffs especially when all the bigs are active. Mirotic gives this team so many elements it lacks - he stretches the defense from the 4, he outruns opposing bigs every trip, he can create his own shot. And once he settles down on defense (it's already happening) he'll be the Bulls' best option to guard stretch 4s.
  10. This is what happens when Rose attacks the basket - he gets respect for that midrange jumper, which he can hit with consistency. This is easily the best he's looked all year.
  11. Soler's injury history is certainly going to be called a red flag by any GM trying to bargain down his trade value.
  12. Luc Longley was a terrific passer, if you want to talk about centers only. But all the PF could pass - Rodman was a fantastic passer. Also, it should be pointed out that Kobe averaged 5.5.-6 APG during most of the Lakers glory years. He was fine with passing the ball when he had anyone to pass it to.
  13. http://nypost.com/2014/12/12/carmelo-anthony-will-consider-waiving-no-trade-clause-source/ Melo is already "open" to a trade. ROFL! Who could have predicted this would go badly? The part that still surprises me is that Phil was willing to give him that contract rather than S/T and start over.
  14. Friedman is proving why he's considered by many the best in the business. It's scary to think what this guy might be able to do with actual money to spend.
  15. Yes because Harper is so valuable the Nats wouldn't even accept a Bryant/Russell/Soler package. Or because Theo isn't nearly stupid enough to offer it.
  16. Says the guy who spazzed because the people who are actually running the team got a major-league starter for a fringe prospect. You really are out to prove the reputation is well-earned, aren't you?
  17. Bryce Harper is not a "2015 or bust" player you prospect-slurping goon. Trading away all of our top prospects for anybody, which is what it would take for Harper, would be an incredibly short-sighted and stupid move. As would trading any of our top 4 for a rental in Upton. If Bryce Harper was still in the minors, he'd be OPSing 1.200 as CFer in AAA and they'd retire the No. 1 overall prospect spot so that all future prospect lists had to start at No. 2. *Not* trading multiple top prospects for Bryce Freaking Harper is short-sighted. He's *younger* than several of those prospects you're scared to trade. Not for the first or last time, thank goodness hyperactive message board "experts" aren't running this team. It's a moot point as far as Haprer is concerned anyway, as the Nats aren't moving him.
  18. Bryce Harper is not a "2015 or bust" player you prospect-slurping goon. Trading away all of our top prospects for anybody, which is what it would take for Harper, would be an incredibly short-sighted and stupid move. As would trading any of our top 4 for a rental in Upton.
  19. Signing Lester has made fans drunk with lust for next year. Russell, Baez, Bryant? Trade 'em all. Trade Baez for a rental player in Upton. Trade all three of them for Harper. Doesn't matter - 2015 or bust!
  20. If Beane is totally backing up the truck, maybe he'll move Josh Reddick, too. I'd certainly be checking.
  21. To make me puke and John Hart deliriously happy? No, I'd say that was spot-on. #-o
  22. Excellent breakdown from MLB (believe it or not) with their two best guys, Smoltz and Rosenthal. http://m.mlb.com/video/v37040795/mlb-tonight-reports-on-lester-to-cubs
  23. http://i.ytimg.com/vi/swPcFyhDMpk/hqdefault.jpg We're downgrading by, I don't know, a win by replacing Castillo with Ross. What out there that you can get for Castillo improves our roster by a similar amount? Who's to say? Look at how little Beane got back for Moss, who's not a bad player. I'd just as soon keep Castillo as part of that platoon, but the fact that the Cubs are openly flirting with Ross tells you he's a candidate to be moved. And Ross isn't a bad hitter vs. lefties, for the record - over .800 OPS both of the last two years. I'm not sure he's a big downgrade from Castillo as part of a platoon.
  24. With age and injuries slowing him down, I certainly don't think you'd want to depend on CarGo to play CF apart from a dire emergency.
  25. I don't think the Cubs are especially concerned about Castillo being happy. It's more a question of Ross making Lester very happy, and being one of those "veteran leaders" Theo rants about. And the fact that Castillo does have at least some trade value, as a young and cheap catcher who can provide league-average performance.
