  1. Crawford hasn't played an inning in CF in 6 years and at this point he's below average even in left. He's in no way a CF option - if they trade for him, it's to play LF.
  2. If the Cubs sign Ross you can pretty much book Castillo's flight out. That may have been the plan all along.
  3. You won't like it, but it could mean trading for Crawford. It could mean someone like Morse. Or it could be an actual big-time move, like CarGo or Upton. Maybe make one more trip to the well and see if Beane will continue the fire sale, or even Jay Bruce. I like Crawford quite a bit actually, especially if they think he can fake it in CF in the short term. Crawford - in CF? That would be an empathic "no".

  5. Buster Olney ‏@Buster_ESPN 1m1 minute ago CHC intention is to continue to build the team with more around Lester. If they didn't sign him, would take a more conservative route.
  6. Theo has expressly stated that those are a non-starter so if there is one, that will be quite a reversal.
  7. Susan Slusser ‏@susanslusser 1m1 minute ago Asked about what it's like to be on this side of a big deal, Joe Maddon grins and says, "Different." #Cubs
  8. Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeymanCBS 29s29 seconds ago #SFGiants offered $150M for 6 yrs, told lester theyd consider tweaking a bit if he came back but wouldnt go 7.
  9. Now word is that SF in fact offered 6 years, at $150M.
  10. 200 IP in year 6 or 400 in year 5/6, per Duquette. I can certainly live with that.
  11. If it's vests it means Lester was/did something really [expletive] good so that's fine. That depends on what he has to accomplish to kick it in. If it's something like throw 180 IP in his 6th year, that could be reached without pitching at a high level. Still, early buzz seems to be that it's a $15M option - so that would mitigate the downside for the club, if true. Certainly not a deal-breaker, but it would help explain why Lester would turn down 7 years from the Giants.
  12. Small downer - there's a 7th year vesting option. We'll see about the terms.
  13. Just what the Cubs needed - less tanking, mo' Lester...
  14. Well nocode, you've certainly earned the right to act as if you were legit - well played either way. Frankly, I couldn't give a flip either way at this point - I'm just happy to be a major league franchise again.
  15. Well, slap my ass ans call me Judy. It really happened.
  16. Twitter has pretty much reached the punch-drunk delirium stage now...
  17. I like the lineup construction with CarGo over Kemp/Upton. He helps to bring some L/R balance and more speed to the lineup. The question with CarGo is how serious the Rocks are about dealing him (owner loves him) and how much of a discount you get based on injury history and exaggerated (with one exception) home/away splits. I wouldn't give away core pieces for him, but if you could get him for the likes of Almora I'd certainly do it.
  18. The one-liners continue: Chris Cotillo ‏@ChrisCotillo 15s16 seconds ago Spoke to Joe Maddon about Lester. "No word yet. If I see the white smoke, I'll know." Checked phone, said "nothing yet". #Cubs
  19. ChicagoCubsOnline retweeted Andy Martino ‏@MartinoNYDN 59s60 seconds ago From reporting, really like #Cubs chances on Lester. But as of moment, they are thinking there is a chance decision waits until tomorrow. 0 replies 10 retweets 2 favorites Reply Retweet10 Favorite2
  20. I think Wada ends up as the 5th starter, Wood shipped off somewhere or the swingman. IF we sign Lester, of course. I love the idea of the FO ramping it up for 2015 if they get Lester, but rather than target another SP a big bat for the OF would be the far more crucial need, IMO. With all the baggage he carries, I still think CarGo might be the best realistic fit.
  21. If nothing else, this Lester soap opera has given McCarthy and Evans a chance at some HOF one-liners.
  22. http://i.imgur.com/kjccmwH.gif So if the Cubs aren't shopping Welly, where exactly does Ross fit? Do you burn a roster spot on a third catcher just to appease Lester? And Ross isn't signing for the minimum, either.
  23. It is if you believe Montero's contract pushes him into negative value.
