  1. Listen, I certainly hope this is the one timeline in a hundred where nocode is actually legit. But I tip my cap either way - this was exceptionally well-played. He can't possibly lose either way. I love a good caper as much as anybody.
  2. he's borderline to even be called a prospect, let alone a very good one. That's absolutely absurd, sorry. Just not even close to meshing with the facts.
  3. You seriously don't think a guy working a scam would play having a source inside the clubhouse in future?
  4. Mejia is a very good prospect. He's got a great arm, and his stuff is pretty advanced for a kid that young. Certainly a legit top 20 guy in a very good system, and someone the Cubs paid a good sized bonus points to. In what world is that not a very good prospect?
  5. i'll accept your apology when you buy me a beer during my annual summer trip to chicago. Considering I live in Tokyo that may be a bit of a problem... Default to cynicism is unfortunately the only reasonable approach in the internet age - sorry, but it's true. I sincerely hope you're both legit in intent and information, but the odds are pretty long. And the truth is, we'll never know unless Lester signs elsewhere. honestly you won't even know after he does sign with the cubs... doesn't matter really... we all win. Yes, that's exactly my point. If the goal is to set yourself up as a Marlin/Abty type of "source" that would be the exact outcome you're hoping for.
  6. I think Montero makes a great deal of sense for the Cubs, but I'm puzzled that Theo would give up a very good prospect for a guy whose contract should push him into negative value. Considering what other, far more attractive targets have fetched in terms of prospect return this off-season, Mejia seems like a major overpay.

  8. No offense to nocode416, but are you all really so desperate to believe that you're buying this at face value? If he were in this as a sting just for gits and shiggles, this is exactly the moment he's been building up to. It's a no lose - he's either laughing hysterically at his flawless troll, or he happens to be right and claims he was a real expert. Maybe this guy really does know the family - stranger things have happened. But that's a lot to take on faith, even for a Cub fan.
  9. Why would the Cubs trade for a guy they traded away already because he wouldn't sign an extension? Well, they wouldn't. But in theory because they're supposedly trying to win now, when last year they were trying to lose.
  10. Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal 15m15 minutes ago Sources: All four Lester offers in six-year, $150M range. Story:... http://fb.me/2QcnCOmfZ
  11. Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal 15s15 seconds ago If #Cubs get Lester, industry source says next move would be to pursue big bat and try to accelerate revival. A bat in addition to Montero.
  12. Martin got 5/80, is a few months older, both have similar k/bb rates and career slash lines and both are considered very good defensively. I don't think it's a stretch to think he'd get 3-4 years and more than 40 million on the open market. I do. Martin is coming off a career year, and Montero has had two down years in a row. Montero also has some of the worst throwing numbers in the game. I like him, as I said, but a catcher in his 30's coming off two declining years whose defense is a mixed bag (yes, I value pitch framing) is not a comparison with a guy coming off his best year, and arguably the best overall receiver in the sport. Montero as a FA would get, I'd guess, 2-16M. Maybe with a club option for the third year.
  13. I especially like this... The A's traded Addison Russell and the White Sox won't give up Tim freaking Anderson? The A's were also in the middle of a pennant race and knew they could recoup some of the cost by trading Samardzjia over the winter.
  14. I like Montero, and he makes good sense for the Cubs. But unless you think he'd get 3/40 as a FA, giving up any talent whatsoever to trade for him makes zero sense. I have to think the D-backs are eating a bit of the contract.
  15. Patrick Mooney ‏@CSNMooney 1m1 minute ago In a Miguel Montero deal, source says #Cubs wouldn't be moving pieces from 40-man roster or trading talent that's close to big-league ready.
  16. Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeymanCBS 14s14 seconds ago jeff samarzija is on the verge of being traded. the white sox are the likely landing spot. http://cbsprt.co/1Gc0GEP
  17. The Bauer thing doesn't remotely reflect poorly on Montero as a chemistry guy AFAIC.
  18. Chris Cotillo ‏@ChrisCotillo 5m5 minutes ago Belief around baseball is that Noah Syndergaard is in play in trade talks for the #Mets.
  19. AFAIK there's no word that Montero is a bad clubhouse guy - that's presumably Jesus Montero you're thinking of. But with his contract, Torrez and Blackburn is way too much if we eat all of it (speaking of Jesus Montero).
  20. Jeff Passan ‏@JeffPassan 2m2 minutes ago Cubs and Diamondbacks are indeed talking about Miguel Montero, as @jonmorosi and @Ken_Rosenthal reported. Arizona return wouldn't be big.
  21. Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal 3m3 minutes ago Sources: #Cubs, #DBacks expected to talk about Montero again tonight. Teams have been engaged for weeks. Deal appears to be getting closer.
  22. If we eat the entire contract, there should be minimal to no talent going back. Montero has value, but at $40 million for 3 years he may have negative value. More likely to me is they take Jackson's contract and we give up somebody like Vogelbach and Watkins.
  23. It makes no [expletive] difference what the starting point is. 2/20 with a club option for Hammel is a great deal for the club.
  24. Jim Callis ‏@jimcallisMLB 1m1 minute ago If could only keep one, Russell. @SportsfanWalt23: who should @cubs keep pick one Castro/Baez/ or addision russsel?
