  1. I didn't really understand this part either. Or this. As legitamate as I'm sure your softball game was, I'm not really seeing this as a comparable situation. All I'm saying is that uppers don't enhance performance in strenuous athletics and should not be compared to 'roids. Unless me and my friend were some wierd exeption to the rule the speed was the worst thing we could do to "enhance".
  2. Who implied that? Then what does the broken bat have to do with anything? Given the context of the thread and your post there seemed to be an implication that was a 'roid-rage incident. If that's not what you were getting at, then why even bring it up? I see what you mean. I didn't bridge those 2 thoughts very well. I believe that steroids can lead to aggresive outbursts, whereas speed to a feeling of well being. Very different drugs. One long term and very serious, one short term where the effects go away pretty quickly.
  3. Yeah, nobody was using PED's before the 80's. I find it hard to believe that some people put steroids, that build you UP in the same catagory with coke and speed that tear you down. The only benifit of using uppers is to get a short term mental alertness, not long term power and speed. And I sure don't recall Fergie ever throwing a broken bat back at a hitter. Let's not forget that a huge chunk of this society was coking up in the '70s and '80s. In many circles it was concidered chic to do so. I believe that there are plenty of over 40 posters around here that snorted the stuff. As a matter of fact me and a softball teamate decided to drop some speed before a game believing it would help, and be fun. Let me tell you...it wasn't. I was fine 'till I had to run out a double and my head just about split open. Same for my friend who acually threw up and had to sit out the game. Speed may be good for driving a race car, or bowling, or pool shooting, but it DAM sure hurts in real athletics. If there is anyone around here that had a different experience with the stuff I would sure like to hear it! I realize that Doc Ellis once pitched an 8 walk no hitter on LSD, but that's another subject.
  4. Jenkins just voiced what MANY pre-80's players are thinking. And if anybody thinks that Mac is more qualified to be a hitting coach than say, Kieth Hernandez or Luis Alicea they need to put that glue down and smell some coffee. It surprises me that the P.C. Cardinal org. would let LaRussa convince them to bring this big red turd back to St. Louis. I hope he DOES let him pinch hit.....I would love to see Zambrano drill him right between the shouder blades. =D>
  5. I was surprized by Clark stating what all of his ilk are thinking. I'm sure they all would have made a deal with the Devil to do what Mac did. But Mac's choice of "confession" was so much BS as to be an insult to all of us. I'm quite OK with Clark and anyone else from that era that states his opinion. U should have stayed in hiding McGwire, and LaRussa: I hope a former A's or Card player comes out on your blissfully "ignorant" ass.
  6. His admission was a joke. It was "Guilty with an explanation" bull I pulled in traffic court. So he has (With many conferences with DeWit 'Mo and Tony) decided to come out. Watching him dodge questions, making references to "my heart", "the man upstairs", the grind of playing 162 games (yeah, 1st base for an hour and a half with 8 breaks) was hard to watch. And why would he apologize to the Maris' if 'roids did'nt help him smash Roger? Roids wore him down, not ball. I wonder when the media will stop kissing the LaRussa ass and call him to task for what everyone knows to be a gross, enduring lie. "The Bash Brothers on roids??? I had no clue!" Canseco finally said that he knew everything and they talked about it all the time. Well, no other manager has fessed up, but no other manager is still with a guy that broke Ruth/Maris' records. But it would me better for the NL Central if Tony continues mismanaging the team. His incredibly stupid and dogged use of Dunkiel, Thurston and later Glaus hurt the team bad. His continued mangling of the pen was laughable. His complete un-use of a running game (1 squeeze attemp all year) and no player allowed to steal exept Pujols and Yadi (Yikes) speaks volumes. Either Mac or Tony (or both) must quit before opening day or this mess will continue in the press....can you spell d-i-s-t-r-a-c-t-i-o-n?
  7. LOL!....but I think they shoot up in the ass muscle. A direct shot to the blood stream could result in mad roid rage (see Roger Clemons and a broken bat)
  8. You hit the nail on the head. That's precisly the reason he hired him as hitting coach. How can a team have a hitting coach that never hit to the opposite field or bunted in his entire career? Is he gonna teach Pujols how to hit 50 HR a year and bat .270 like him? All he can really teach 'em is proper 'roid and HGH use. It's a damn sham but I bet the Card fans give the slob a huge ovation every time he sticks his fat head out of the dugout.
  9. There is not a dam thing wrong with his elbow. It's all a bunch of BS....I don't pretend to understand the motive of the crazy lies the Cards have been spouting for 2 years, but his on field play has not waivered in 8 years. Tommy John and then no Tommy John...bone spurs now? BS! The only thing wrong with the man is that he is 34 yrs old now...not 29.
  10. Bernie Miz is one of the few writers that will occasionally say something anti-Card in his column. And his comparison IS fair. What grinds me is that LA is gonna go to philly and get their brains beat out. This whole season has been meaningless for Chicago and St. Louis. Here's hoping that Lou gets some fire back next year, and that LaRussa is fired! That would salvage SOMETHING for me.
  11. The Cards can't hit this wall of meat, Broxton.
  12. I have no idea why this clown is allowed to post. Who are you? The Captain of the anti-clown police? What do I have to do? Put it in blue w/10 happy faces behind it? Lighten up...I did.
  13. All this stuff is premature. It ain't over till.......the fat lady says it's over!
  14. Shhhh......you can think it but best not to speak it. Cubs win this game and Col. lose theirs and then we talk. ;)
  15. Yeah what bums those guys have been in their careers. I see your point. In his 9year career Sori DID bat .300 once, and drive in 100 runs twice. He hit a lot of HR's and only struck out 130 times a year. And he was not the worst outfielder in the league either. I hope he comes back next year. I miss his classy GW hit trots. Really batting average and rbis are what your gauging his career on? Awesome. I hope he comes back too because as hard as Sam Fuld plays, he still sucks big time and if we lose Sori and Bradley pencil us in for about 65 wins. I understand your feelings on this thing. I just don't think the team likes the idea that 2 guys that can't even spell clutch make 5 times the money they do. I grant that Milton has NOT been horrible. (between the lines)
  16. Yeah what bums those guys have been in their careers. I see your point. In his 9year career Sori DID bat .300 once, and drive in 100 runs twice. 17. It is really a coincedence that the team is winning w/o Sori and Milton! Who would have figured?
  18. Very impressive effort by this team! Now close it out.
  19. The win last nite made me realize again how truly close we could have come to making the WC....IF we had beat the White Sox and the game after that as we should have 2 weeks back, and the Cardinals, who had not lost a series in over a month had not went 1 and 5 vs. Atl. and Fla and everything else had stayed the same, we would be ahead of them both right now and right in this thing. A lot of if's, I know, but there really was a chance.
  20. Just gotta watch the updates on MLB. I can't get diddly where I am.
  21. I just want them to give SF a hard time and every other team...'till the end. Maybe finish ahead of Atl and Fla. End this effin' season on a high note.
  22. Cub fans may not care about this game, but I hope the team does. This game is HUGE for the Giants (4 behind Col?). As a spoiler we gotta go out there and give 'em hell. I don't care which team wins the WC but, well....just sayin'.
