Fuld has no homerun power but does have 8 triples on the season in AAA. I'd also like to see Scales up here over Freel. -
I was thinking about that yesterday. Probably will be some boos, although its Jim's fault he is playing for the Cards, not Mark's. If he was a free agent who signed with the Cardinals, that'd probably be a little different.

Soriano's career line against Duke: .517/.548/.862/1.410 With multi-hit games in four of his last five, this would be a good night for Soriano to officially begin a hot streak.

Fire Sale

Although I was definitely one of the people over-reacting yesterday and declaring the season over, we should at least wait until we are 7-8 games out before even discussing a fire sale. As it currently stands, we are still only one hot week away from leading the division. I still say the key is Soriano. When he begins another one of his inevitable hot streaks, chances are the Cubs will get hot as well and we'll be LOLing at these threads. -
Carlos Zambrano is the least of this team's problems right now.

Dan Uggla would fit that but I don't see the Marlins becoming sellers anytime soon. Not that they would move him anyway. I still say we make one final push for Brian Roberts, even though he is not a middle of the order guy.

Well I was hoping to wake up and read that Jim had countered the DeRosa trade with a trade of his own. Stupid me.

wha? Fontenot posted a +18 UZR last year and is +20 this year in about a month's worth of games at 2B. DeRosa has never put up a positive UZR at 2B and was nearly -16 last year, and hasn't played the position yet this season. With Fontenot seemingly likely to be 20 runs better per season with the glove, DeRosa needs to maintain a very high offensive output in conjuction with Fontenot being terrible with the bat in order to be a better value. Wow. I had no idea Fontenot was that much better defensively. He doesn't seem like it.

Really? Carpenter is far better than any pitcher on the Cubs Wainwright is as good as any pitcher on the Cubs Pineiro isn't as good, but is pitched as well as any pitcher on the Cubs Lohse is hurt, but he's a a solid 3rd, good 4th starter Carpenter is good obviously but is also an injury waiting to happen. Wainwright is solid, the most consistent of their starters. But I doubt Pineiro, Lohse, or Wellemeyer would even make the Cubs starting rotation right now. Yeah they all have gone through good stretches, but who hasn't?

I'm more upset about not getting DeRosa than I am the Cardinals actually getting him. Their rotation is almost as bad as Milwaukee's and the left side of their infield is still pretty bad. I think Glaus is still pretty far away from coming back and I'm confident that soon people like Joel Pineiro will realize they're Joel Pineiro.

:-k They're the best starting rotation in NL right now. Really? Even after Lilly and Dempster's most recent starts? Imagine how good we'd be if Harden could get it going.

I'd take Lopez just because he can play 2nd and Teahen can't. I think Teahen's bat is slightly better though.
