  1. I would have liked to get one more inning out of Wells. He was only at 85 pitches and starting to settle down. Plus he would have been just as likely to hit in that situation as Jeff Baker.
  2. Wells looks awful. If it weren't for nice running catches by Kosuke they'd easily have 7 or 8 runs by now.
  3. Just incase they can't catch the Cardinals, the Cubs are 3.5 games behind the wildcard leading Giants.
  4. I assume this happened when he awkwardly stepped on first base last Saturday. Probably why he didn't play in the All-Star game. We simply cannot afford this to be a serious injury.
  5. I agree. I think Marshall, Vitters, and one of Cashner/Wells/Fox would be enough. That package is better than what the Mets gave Minnesota for Santana. The problem would be if a team like the Cardinals offered up someone like Colby Rasmus as the centerpiece of a package. I wouldn't give anymore than what you listed, but it could be beaten by a team offering a stud major league ready prospect. This is true, and if that were the case, then I say let them have Halladay. I'm just not a fan of giving up stud everyday players for a starting pitcher who throws once every five games. Even though he might be the best starting pitcher in the game right now, at least in the AL.
  6. Good lord this season needs to start. That quote needs to be posted above the locker of each Bears WR.
  7. I agree. I think Marshall, Vitters, and one of Cashner/Wells/Fox would be enough. That package is better than what the Mets gave Minnesota for Santana.
  8. Nevermind. Quinn's stats are a bit better than I thought they'd be. I seem to remember him being absolutely horrible in 2004.
  9. Henry Burris was almost as bad as Johnathan Quinn. Notice I said almost.
  10. I really hope the Cubs are playoff-bound by the time the Bears start. Always hard to stay interested in baseball when football season starts unless your team has a legit chance to make October.
  11. Good move. This guy is dominant when healthy. Toronto gave up on him early if you ask me. 33 isn't that old for a pitcher.
  12. Its really a shame we didn't make the playoffs in 04.
  13. Maybe Sam Fuld will take the Randy Wells route of being mediocre in the minors and good in the majors? Doubtful but who knows?
  14. I think Soriano realizes the only way he is getting on base is to draw a walk.
  15. Johnson, Zimmerman, Dunn due up for Gregg. This thing is defintiely not over yet.
  16. I didn't get to see that, what exactly happened? If you're talking about Sunday night, Marshall was brought in to face Stavinoha, who he walked. Then instead of being taken out of the game, Lou put him in left field while Heilman faced a righty. Then after Heilman retired the batter, Marshall was brought back to the mound to finish the inning.
  17. Why is our left fielder warming up in the bullpen? :D
  18. Since when do the road Cubs come through with two outs and a runner in RISP? Has happened twice already.
  19. That was a rather boring and uneventful all-star game. Maybe I'm biased because no Cubs played. Although its worth it considering all of our players will now be completely rested on Thursday.
  20. Random boos from the crowd. Lilly must be warming up.
  21. The one time a year when we're on the same side and the Cubs still get booed. I guess hating a team 364 days a year isn't enough.
  22. OK but he has zero at bats at The Ballpark in Arlington this year, so Im not really sure what this has to do with anything. He played for the Rangers last year. NonProfitCow was probably trying to say that we shouldn't expect him to repeat last year's performance. Which wouldnt make any sense because there is nobody in this thread saying they expect to repeat last years performance. Hell its the ASB, Id say its impossible for him to do that at this point. It just seemed like a really odd comment to make right now. And we don't really need him to repeat last year's performance. If he could just get his OPS in the .850-.875 range it would make quite a bit of difference.
  23. Wow that is ridiculous. Talk about picking and choosing which stats to use. Using W/L records when for the most part each team's defense has been on the opposite ends of the spectrum (except for recently). He doesn't throw in the fact that Cutler's career QB rating (87.1) is substantially better than Orton's (71.1) or Grossman's (70.2). I know QB rating can be a deceiving stat, but not anymore than W/L. And say he throws for 1,000 more yards, its going to make a huge difference in field position and more importantly field goals for who I think is one of the best kickers in football. At least one of the most accurate. Then he throws in the fact that Cutler was the offensive leader for a team that blew the division lead. Kind of hard to win when your defense gives up 112 total points in the last three weeks including 52 in the final game of the season. I'm more worried about not having any established WRs than I am about Cutler at this point. I hope whoever said that the QB makes the WRs is correct.
