  1. Harold Reynolds really is stupid. The Cubs need somebody who has been there, to say "We got this." Um, yeah. Jon Lester and David Ross anyone?
  2. I'm cool going anywhere and playing anybody this season. Making the playoffs in the first year of whatever we are calling this would be awesome.
  3. I guess I have to doubt myself a bit because so many on here think that Fowler can and will get that type of contract, but I just still don't see it happening. Nobody is going to make that kind of investment in a 30-year-old CF with a history of injuries coming off this kind of season so far. He will have to get hot and really improve on his numbers while staying healthy to get that money. But, again, I acknowledge nobody agrees so maybe I'm way wrong.
  4. And this is his rookie season. Imagine if Bryant is an average 8-9 WAR player over the next six years. Swoons. In learning about aging curves, I've learned that he might not improve. He might. But this might be the best he ever is and therefore let's just enjoy it.
  5. I hear ya. I had no idea that Lester was only eight pounds lighter than Wells.
  6. They will start that Donny Roach guy they are bringing up.
  7. Oh, damn. I didn't know that's what he weighed. Never mind then.
  8. So where did this Jon Lester is fat get started among some of you? I'm not seeing it.
  9. I don't think I agree with any of this, actually. He should absolutely learn to throw to first. Not sure how anyone could argue that. It's not that easy. Mental blocks can be very, very, very difficult and sometimes impossible to get over. The mind is a powerful thing. It ain't as easy as saying he should learn to throw to first. The chances of him doing that are very small, no matter how much people want to scream and say "Just do it."
  10. I don't think I agree with any of this, actually.
  11. That would be great news if that's what it is.
  12. As a fan you have the right to feel any you want. BUT, I'd say it's unfair to put this on the front office. Everyone was waiting for them to sign a big ticket free agent, and I really don't remember anyone bashing the move when it happened. Jon Lester appeared to be pretty safe to not be a bust and be a quality pitcher for four or five seasons (still hope he will be). I'm not yet freaking out that this is Barry Zitoish.
  13. Yeah but let's see how he finishes the year before we pan him. If he doesn't get it together, well he's had bad years before and has turned it around the next year. True. And I know I'm about to state the obvious but the scary thing is...........we have no choice. I have irrational fears that Jon Lester is mentally rattled. That the big money and the focus on his throwing has gotten him way out of his comfort zone.
  14. Not to put unrealistic expectations on him, but Jon Lester needs to be more of an ace. This just ain't going to get it done.
  15. I'm willing to consider that Lester had the struggles that pitchers sometimes have in the first inning and that he can still have a great game by shutting the Dodgers down over the next six innings.
  16. Not to be picky but why end this one? I mean no reason not to try to get Rizzo on and see if Bryant can go deep. Like it's not that much more effort.
  17. Is the play by play right that Denorfia tried to stretch a single into a double with nobody on and down by three? If so, I mean he could have run to second during the next at bat as they likely would have given it to him for free.
  18. wow. Umpire really letting Dodgers take their time.
  19. Err isn't Jansen their closer? And they used him in a high leverage situation. They waited until bases were loaded in the 10th. That's dumb. I see what you are saying. But to be fair to Mattingly, with who the Cubs had up, I can't blame him for taking a chance on another reliever and saving Jansen for Rizzo and Bryant. It did not work out, but to me that's a total fail job by the reliever. He just didn't do his job tonight.
  20. Just one win in June but proud of them for doing it.
  21. Let's suicide squeeze this. Tough to make good contact against this guy.
  22. How quickly we forget about Szczur's home run ability. Yeah, never mind.
  23. Would be nice to win after holding them scoreless for 10.
