Dude tried to use Jimmy [expletive] Chitwood as a decoy. Great motivational coach, sketchy X's and O's guy. He was a buffoonish meatball who played four guys while benching his hottest shooter for not playing the game the right way. Dennis Hopper was the brains behind the team's success anyway.
I had no idea about the rule that if a player misses All Star Weekend they have to have missed the game before or the game after. What an awful rule, even though I'd be happy just to give the Blackhawks All Stars the extra day off in addition to skipping the All Star stuff.
I thought for sure it was over when the Raiders were forced to call a timeout because they had guys in the backfield celebrating a sack instead of getting back on defense for 4th down. Would have been a very Raiders way of blowing a game.
It doesn't show anyone at 97. But Lester Oliveros hit 96.6 once, so I guess they rounded up. As a team, the Twins threw 112 pitches at 95 mph or more. While Aroldis Chapman threw 207 pitches at or above 101.
If you ignore dumb sportswriters and count Sosa as a HOFer, the '92 Cubs had four and finished under .500. If you include Pete Rose, the Reds missed three times in the 70s with four.
Then traded Donaldson in the offseason for a middle reliever and we're still in 2014 wondering what could have been, but without the memory of those awesome Harden starts.
The Cubs and Pirates have finished top three in the division at the same time just once in the last 40 years. It's hard for me to feel strongly about a division rival when it's been years since they've played a meaningful game against each other. Maybe next year I'll hate them more.
