  2. The guy who runs full speed into 320 lbs linemen who are trying to twist him into the ground over and over for 130 consecutive games should have thought "I better not broad jump four feet because I wouldn't want to hurt myself." The worst part of the injury is the joy it brings to all the "act like you've been there before" idiots who idolize that weirdo Barry Sanders.
  3. Myrtle Beach had 8 games PPD, suspended, or cancelled. Daytona had 18. So yeah, I'm okay with whatever the mascot is.
  4. Meh. Most people I've heard talk about it still think it's a spanking vs time-out or a "the government can't tell me how to raise my kid" issue.
  5. According to Fangraphs, his slow start lasted five games, going 2 - 20 with 1 HR, 0 walks, and 5 strikeouts.
  6. College football fans are like the idiots who scream about Starlin Castro needing to be taught a lesson for not playing the game the right way, except all the players are 5 years younger and barely out of high school. God forbid a kid decides to transfer away. The hardcore fans of any sport are generally pathetic losers, but the worst 20% of college football fans are the worst people on the planet.
  7. Apparently it was from the team notes: @JordanBernfield Checked 2008, #Cubs had longer home winning streak. Stat I tweeted was from team's post game notes. Thanks @AlexBerngard for the tip. 12 years is a really long time to go without winning six home games in a row. Seems like something you'd double check no matter where it came from.
  8. 1st time since 2012.
  9. Soler's big grin as he went back to the dugout made me smile as much as the HR itself did. He seems really likable and always looks like he's having a lot of fun with his opportunity as a professional athlete. It's really going to bum me out one day when he gets accused of not playing the game the right way for not legging out an infield hit in the 8th inning of a 9 - 2 game.
  10. I guess it's a Cuban thing. Cespedes' is 52, while that's not into weirdo 60+ territory, it's still generally reserved for pitchers.

  12. I was thinking it would be good idea to allow cash-strapped teams like the A's and the Rays to do it, but then I remembered MLB also considers the Cardinals to be poor and in need of help to stay competitive. I'm fine with it. I was more resistant to the increase of ads at Wrigley and I got over that years ago. I'd probably feel differently if I bought and wore jerseys, but I don't, so bring on the NASCAR unis.

  14. It takes a special kind of evil to purposely run someone over with your car because they're gesturing at you. No matter how big of a dick or hothead he is, I wouldn't assume that about Stewart unless some other evidence came out. But he absolutely intended to gun the engine and swerve towards Ward. Maybe he was trying to scare Ward or spray dirt on the kid, but his intentional and reckless actions killed someone. I don't understand how there are no charges against him. And I don't see how NASCAR, after the investigation and due diligence, can let him race for them ever again and still publicly maintain that driver safety is number one priority.
  15. Nah. The only reason a second WC is tolerable is that teams are usually going to start their #1 SP with no chance to rest him for game 1 of the LDS, giving the team with the best record in the league a deserved advantage beyond home field. I'd prefer to take the managers out of the replay process and have every play automatically reviewed from the booth. Or at least get rid of the "irrefutable evidence" part of it. Just because the umpire is only 70% sure after the replay doesn't justify letting the call he's now 30% confident about stand. But that's never going to change. I'm not against the DH, I just like that a pitcher can increase his value by being a good hitter over a slightly better pitcher who goes 4 - 60 and bunts into double plays. But for such a divisive topic, I really couldn't care less. Just make it the same for both leagues.
  16. He can opt for arbitration when he becomes arbitration eligible.

  18. They changed the rule because of the Mets situation.
  19. Thanks for sharing. Definitely shows how young the group is, Soler's is distorted from his Arizona games. Yeah, he's batted in 8 games vs. a younger pitcher and I'm assuming 7 of them were his games in Arizona. So I guess he has 2 or 3 PAs if you just want to count AA/AAA.
  20. Number of PA vs younger pitcher. This season/Career Russell: 0/6 Baez: 0/2 Alcantara: 0/45 Almora: 3/7 Bryant: 9/52 Soler: 26/59 I don't know how useful this information is but I thought it was interesting.
  21. For just news aggregation, sure. But since I'm coming here anyway to read what's being said about it, I may as well skip a step, and just get my news here and pare down my Twitter feed by 200 posts a day.
  22. Agreed. While it's probably true that more people would post if some of the old-timers didn't look for the most abrasive way to make their point, I'm guessing most of the lurkers probably aren't going to post regularly anyway and just use this as a news site. And it's one I'm grateful for. I sincerely appreciate those who follow the Jason Parks and Keith Law types on Twitter so I don't have to, and I'm sure a lot of others feel the same.
  23. I feel the opposite. There's a dozen psychopaths on here that scare me away from posting. :-) But the discussions are always either incredibly insightful or train wreck awful, so at least it's always interesting to read.
  24. Hope I'm right about this, I'd appreciate any corrections. USA wins = Group winner USA draw = Group runner-up USA loss + Ghana/Portugal draw = Group runner-up If USA loses and Ghana win ------------------ Any result other than one goal win for Ghana and one goal loss for USA = Ghana advances on goal differencial. If Ghana wins by one and USA loses by one, they tie in goal differencial: Ghana doesn't outscore USA on Thursday = USA advances on total goals scored Ghana outscores USA by 1 goal = They tie on goals scored and USA advances via head-to-head result Ghana outscores USA by 2 goals or more on Thursday = Ghana advances on total goals scored. If USA loses and Portugal wins ------------------ If Portugal margin of victory + USA margin of defeat is >5 (e.g. 3-0 Portugal win and 0-3 USA loss) = Portugal advances on goal differencial If Portugal margin of victory + USA margin of defeat is <5 = USA advances If Portugal margin of victory + USA margin of defeat equals 5 they tie in goal differencial: Portugal outscores USA by 3 goals on Thursday = Portugal advances on total goals scored. Portugal outscores USA by 2 goals = Drawing of lots (tied in points, goal differencial, goals scored, and head-to-head) Portugal outscores USA by less than 2 goals = USA advances
