  1. On child rape allegations, Pete Rose said "Who cares what happened 50 years ago. You weren't even born, so you shouldn't be talking about it" To honor the man's wishes, I won't factor in any part of Pete Rose's career before 1990.
  2. This whole debate feels like a sequel to the Jon Bois "Dumbest Boy Alive" video
  3. I would have fired Joe Maddon on the field for decisions made during Game 7 of a World Series that he won.
  4. I love tacos because they taste good and would also love rotten eggs if they tasted like tacos. Sewer rat may taste like pumpkin pie, but I'd never know because Nico can't stay healthy for 50 games.
  5. Was your point that college football is safe? Because otherwise I don't care. Saying it's "safer" than other aspects of campus life is just a way to feel okay about 19-year-olds being put at risk for your entertainment. If you were actually interested in student safety, you would be this passionate about about closing campuses and athletic departments altogether.
  6. Kids are stupid, they're going to get sick anyway. May as well let them get sick while entertaining me. College football fans are the worst people.
  7. A 50 win pace a fifth of the way through the season. Pretty much what I expected in February.
  8. With such a rich history of winning World Series as the Cubs have, we can afford to be dismissive of the odd championship that doesn't live up to our standards.
  9. I forgot Tony Kemp was even on the team. So getting anything for him is a bonus.
  10. Is that the Cardinals' strategy?
  11. The second coolest person on the team. [tweet] [/tweet]
  12. Maddon would definitely be a better manager if he made it to AA.
  13. Please back this up with a single piece of actual evidence. If not, at least admit that this is just a pure meatball take. I can’t find a site that shows records “when trailing after __” but we have to have an abysmal record when trailing after 5,6,7 innings in comparison to previous years (yes, I know most means will have a bad record when trailing in the late innings). I could be wrong, but it seems impossible that we have more than 2 or 3 wins when we fall behind in games even through 4 or 5 innings. I'll regret enabling you but... https://www.baseball-reference.com/play-index/inning_summary.cgi?request=1&year=2019&team_id=CHC A .132 winning percentage when trailing after 5. The NL is .187. The Cardinals are .259. 2018 Cubs were .250.
  14. He has to finish the season so that replacing him can be sold as a big offseason move in lieu of a real signing. Theo and Joe Girardi will talk all offseason about building a culture of accountability and Sergio Romo will be the team's biggest signing.
  15. That Cards fan is a dope. Fans singing "Whoomp there it is" after a HR is waaaay whiter.
  16. The Cubs are 12 games over .500 and winning on the road. There are no rules anymore.
  17. artist rendition of the brandon morrow era: $172,181 per batter faced
  18. AL - 4048/8906 45.5% NL - 3869/8662 44.7% MLB - 7917/17568 45.1% For each team: https://legacy.baseballprospectus.com/sortable/index.php?cid=1819118
  19. But I think most people agree he's one of the best 25 players in the organization. We just #DontCare. You can keep giving daily updates on his PCL slash lines and we're not going to want him called up. He can get called up and hit 15 HRs in September and we're not going to want him on the playoff roster. He can hit another grand slam in another World Series and we're not going to want the Cubs to sign him in the offseason. The fact that defending Russell is this important to you and yet there's no stat on his BRef splits page that will convince anyone to agree with you is the lone bright spot in this situation.
  20. it's def dumb when playing at a park where weather is a non issue. i completely get why they do it at wrigley and the other places, though (so it totally makes sense that they're not doing one next year) I get why they do it. It's still dumb to get half of baseball fans engaged and enthusiastic about the new season just to slap them in the face with an immediate off day.
  21. The off day after opening day continues to be the dumbest thing ever
  22. Are you still going on about a stat that I pulled solely to express how stupid I think the goofball splits you use are.
  23. Do I care that he got to .983 by driving himself in instead of taking a walk to potentially be driven in? Stats prove that Jason Heyward is better at leading off than Rickey Henderson. Facts don't care about your feelings, snowflake. Seriously, though, you make a fine point that Heyward isn't the right person to be hitting at the top of the lineup. It's just that you can't believe that someone who has been a mediocre hitter for his entire Cubs career could go back to being mediocre after a hot June. It must be because he mentally can't handle having to pick up a bat 15 minutes earlier.
  24. The truest meaning of leadoff is the first at-bat of the game where Heyward has a .983 OPS. Rickey Henderson's leadoff OPS was .822. Your move, Edith.
  25. 80% of figure skating is the equivalent of calling balls and strikes. Except with 9 judges smoothing the results instead of a single sociopath who can ruin a baseball game because he ate a bad breakfast burrito or something.
