    Yeah we aren't going to be good. I would think the Garza to Rangers talks will heat up if the Jays did indeed win the bidding on Darvish. Losing Garza and going with someone like Scott/Lahair/Loney at 1B would put us in top 3 pick territory in the 2013 draft.

    and Bledsoe and Mo Williams. I guess those are good insurance policies to have on Paul's knee when it inevitably goes out. And how much longer is Gordon under team control? As one of the better young guards in the league I would assume he's getting the [expletive] out of NO as soon as free agency comes.

    I wouldn't mind Varitek as a back up if he came very cheap (like under $1 mil)and if they traded Geo for something decent. Otherwise, no Who's the everyday catcher then? The only way I want these guys on the Cubs is if they come on as some sort of coaches. Maybe we can hire Wakefield to teach pitchers that flame out at AA/AAA how to throw a knuckleball in hopes of reviving their careers.

    Paul to LAC is off. New Orleans/NBA wanted Gordon, Bledsoe, Kaman, Aminu, and Minnesota's unprotected 1st round pick.     I am in favor in using Garza in some way to structure a trade for Hanley. Whether it's a direct trade with the Marlins sending Garza there or trading Garza to a team (Rangers, Yankees, Red Sox) and using the prospects acquired to get him. And I don't think moving Starlin is a big deal if you have Hanley at SS. Or even consider moving Starlin to 3B in a few years (Baez to 2B in the a few years hopefully) and allow Starlin to put some muscle/weight on.

    They have Walden don't they? He had a pretty good year last year iirc, plus he's young and cheap.

    Anyone look at Baker's splits by month last year? I know AVG is not anyone's favorite stat, but man! April/March - .364 May - .375 June - .179 July - .208 August - .192 Sept/Oct - .200 This is without looking into it, I would guess he started the year facing mostly LHP. I seem to remember as the year went on and guys got hurt/sucked he started getting more ab's against RHP, which he sucks against, and it dragged his avg down.

    My irrational hope is that if we are going to trade Garza we use him in some way to acquire Hanley (if the reports are true he is available) whether it be Garza packaged with guys to MIA to get him since they didn't get Wilson or using prospects we get for Garza to ship off to MIA for Hanley with some of our own prospects. On a side note, do you think we see Byrd packaged with Garza in a trade to Texas?

    Agreed, I also don't think twice if we had to give up three of those four to get Stewart.

    We all know Crane Kenney is running this team, Theo's probably out of the loop on the Pujols negotiations.

    Love this. A Garza/Kuroda/Z/Dempster/1 of Cashner/Wells/Samardzija is definitely a good enough rotation to compete for the division if we can add a few good/decent bats.

    Probably either the Marlins want to give Pujols ownership in the team/defer money for after the life of the contact (like giving him a 10 year deal but paying out some money for the next 20 or something) or they are talking to him about the SEC investigation stuff.
