  1. Looks like Bianchi's replacement. More like Andres Blanco's. Is Blanco even in the system anymore?
  2. Cespedes: (age 25): .333/.424/.667, 33 HR in 354 AB Jose Abreu (age 24): .453/.597/.986, 33 HR in 212 AB  Sweet Jesus. Get It done, Theo and Jed. Were those numbers put up in the same league that Cespedes plays in? Why hasn't there been any talk of this guy during the offseason? Probably because you can't just go into Cuba and sign anyone you want. I know that. I meant more, why has this guy at least not been mentioned as a footnote in some of the Cespedes articles or why you at least don't hear about him being the next big thing out of Cuba when he defects. People talked about Darvish and Chapman a few years before they got to MLB, I am just surprised I haven't seen anything about him mentioned at least as a potential impact FA signing when/if he decides to come to MLB.

  4. With the FA pitching market looking like it could thin out fast for next year, the best thing we can hope for is that a lot, or at least a few of, our very intriguing low level guys have breakout years along with the guys at the top of the system (Jackson, Baez, Saczur, etc.) not falling off and keeping their prospect status and Theo/Jed can pull of a trade for King Felix. Pipe dream, I know, but it's what I am hoping for....
  5. Classic negotiation tactic, Theo and Jed will see right through it......
  6. Would the Tigers be interested/have a need for Byrd? He could be another guy traded to clear a spot.
  7. Harrison is getting held by the LG/LT almost every play on this drive.
  8. WOW, Tebow has a chance to put this one away by half.
  9. http://www.bleachernation.com/2011/12/29/lukewarm-stove-byrd-lidge-garza-jackson-wood-marmol-callaspo-marshall/ Given all the history, it makes sense that he'd happily sign with Hendry for well below market, but not be inclined to do so under Theo. It's possible that even the "gentleman's agreement" doesn't hold true anymore, which would be a shame. Oh well, it's just business. This might be where Ricketts Cubs fandom comes into play and he steps in a forces a Wood signing, instead of letting Theo/Hoyer make it simply a baseball decision. Also there is the omnipresent Krane Kenney in play here with his marketing wizardry that could get this done. What is "Fair Market Value" for Wood even? $3.5-5 million as a base and $2-3 million more in incentives and what not?
  10. Sonnanstine is a RHP isn't he? According to his BR page he bats left but throws right. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/sonnaan01.shtml
  11. Or we could just keep Soriano and play him more smartly as he can still be a productive player if used in the right spots and we'd still have like $30-50m left to play with, with his contract on the books. What are these "spots" you speak of? If you mean him picking up his checks after he is DFA, then sure. Play him smartly. Like playing him more exclusively vs. LHP, his line against LHP last year was .271/.312/.500 (.812 OPS). Plus he had 54 XBH last year (26 HR, 27 2B, and 1 3B), Soriano still can hit for power he just shouldn't be playing everyday. So the "spots" where he actually will provide value to the team is if you play him more exclusively against LHP, keep him out there when he goes on one of his crazy hot streaks, then don't be afraid to sit him for some time when he goes on on of his cold streaks. Soriano still has value, not the amount that we are paying him for but there is value there, it's crazy that people don't see it.

  13. That's a good article. But what I take of it is, we are going to suck for a while and hope that our trades for high tier prospects/high draft position pays off with impact players. And if it doesn't we're fucked but at least we tried.
  14. http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/cubs/post/_/id/7496/source-cubs-reds-close-on-marshall-deal?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter That's [expletive] awful. Marshall has more value than that, unless at least one of the prospects is in the Reds top 5-7
  15. Well I guess this bit me in the ass, didn't it? But 13-1 is still pretty damn good. And if they were gonna lay an egg I'd rather it be now than in the playoffs. It seemed an obvious thing to say. Perhaps. But 19-0 was a pipe dream. It's unnecessary pressure to put on a ballclub, especially with the dilemma of resting players that always comes up. Then you throw the Jennings & Bulaga injuries into the mix -- the pressure mounts to start resting more guys. Are there still scenarios left where the Packers wouldn't be the #1 seed? I know the Packers hold the tiebreaker with the Saints if those two teams would be tied (Packers would have to lose out and Saints win out if they were to tie). I don't know who holds the tiebreaker in either a 3 team tie between the Packers 49ers, and Saints (again Packers would have to lose out and Saints/49ers would both have to win out) and I don't know who holds the tiebreaker in a straight up tie between the 49ers and Packers.
  16. Calvin Johnson just molested the Raiders
  17. The Bears should just go to running the wildcat next week and let Hester take the snaps.
  18. Most good NFL teams are extremely dependent on their QB and when he goes down they usually suck. The Packers, Patriots, Saints, Falcons, Cowboys, Giants, Steelers, etc. would all be having a Bears like run right now if they lost Rodgers, Brady, Brees, Ryan, Romo, Manning, Big Ben for the season.
  19. Kobe's wife filed for divorce today. He's got a lot of anger to carry over into the season.
  20. Is there some super prospect that is going to be in the draft next year like a Mauer, Strasburg Harper, etc. that Theo has his eyes one? As of right now I think a lineup like that is quite likely, except with maybe someone like Loney or Scott at 1B. Either way the results aren't going to be pretty.
  21. Good god, the Jaguars are awful
  22. I don't think running a lineup out there similar to that is really that out of the question.
  23. Yeah we aren't going to be good. I would think the Garza to Rangers talks will heat up if the Jays did indeed win the bidding on Darvish. Losing Garza and going with someone like Scott/Lahair/Loney at 1B would put us in top 3 pick territory in the 2013 draft. i'm trying to think of two worse teams if that actually happens. Not worse, but on par with the Mariners, Astros, Mets and Pirates
