  1. I'm not sure if he's still eligible for rookie status, but if so he has a very real chance of winning ROY & MVP. I think Cano and Cabrera would be the main guys standing in his way. He's already at a 6.0 WAR, and he didn't get called up until a month into the season, I believe. He's still considered a rookie this year. He only came up for a realy brief time last year and didn't go over the games played/plate appearances/time on the active roster threshold but he struggled so they sent him down (plus I think he came up more to fill in for an injury and then that guy came back or they brought someone else in). Clearly he has the ROY won already and I'd say he has a very good chance of winning the MVP if he continues producing around this level and they Angels win the division.
  2. Padres extended Carlos Quentin has to boost Soriano's trade value a little as it's one less OF bat on the market in a market where few OF bats with power are available.
  3. Somewhere Kaplan is saving this picture to his computer to use as fuel to the fire for his next article bashing both Soriano and Castro
  4. I'm not sure what the point is here? Comparing Jeter to a HOFer? He's going in because he is deserving. How can he be over hyped? He's the best SS in Yankee history and among the best ever. I'm not sure anyone has compared him to Honus Wagner. You guys can continue to bag on Jeter all you want, but he's among the greatest of all time. ..... Who is your objection? Rizzuto? Jeter crushes him. Kinda my point, SS is a pretty weak position in Yankee history. So saying Jeter is HOF worthy because "he's the best ss in Yankee history" is over hyping him seeing as he's not going against anyone who's statistically been all that great. And using the defense that someone should be in the HOF just because they rank high in an individual organization or at an organizational position historically doesn't stand as a strong defense in someone's HOF worthiness, imo. Jeter belongs in the HOF for other reasons than simply saying/being he's the best SS in Yankee history (not that the original post was using that as the only reason for Jeter's HOF inclusion).
  5. Wait, so what you spend in FA is tied to your draft budget now?

  7. it has no effect on his trade value. This. I would say Dempster's entire body of work speaks more to his value than one random inning in July. I would imagine most teams interested in him or ones that have offers in have guys at the game tonight or guys watching it and realize he gave up a bunch of bloop singles. Wasn't like he was giving up bombs all over the place and his stuff/velo seems to be on par with where he has been all year/since he's been a starter.
  8. Was it me or did Lahair really give up early on the ball in RF? I think a guy with more experience playing the OF gets to that ball.
  9. I umpired LL when I was 18 for like 3 weeks and ended up quitting because both the coaches and parents were horrible. Hated it. Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2 this should probably split into an "experience while coaching/umpiring" thread, but i had a really terrible experience coaching when i asked a pony league team "do you guys suck? i sure don't think so! why are we playing like this!?" you won't believe it, but only the first comment made its way back to the players' parents. The moral of the story, as always, is don't have kids. But seriously parents who are still trying to live vicariously through their kids athletics (especially pre-HS) suck.
  10. Ryan Dempster has the best ERA+ in the majors this season, and is tied for 9th in pitching bWAR despite missing several starts. And 14th in FIP I'm guessing whatever columnist this was doesn't even know what ERA+, WAR, and FIP is, let alone know how to use them to evaluate guys seeing as he cited wins as a way to judge/value Porcello. Just some hack most likley, the Phil Rogers/Kaplan of Detroit
  11. Pretty sure that's right on Heyward. Also, I completely forgot about Tony Thomas. I had such high expectations for him.
  12. What's the issue?
  13. Haha, just saw that
  14. Superteams are good for the league, imo. I'd rather there be 3-5 really good teams, with 3 or more allstars on those teams. Than every team just have one allstarish player and a bunch of bench guys/scrubs. Sure it gives no hope to teams like Milwaukee and other teams who won't attract guys in FA. I'm also in favor of cutting down the league by 3 teams or so.
  15. I'm sure finding an average player in Double A to be a Starlin Castro replacement is quite high on Theo's list of things to do along with what he's looking for as a return for Dempster.....
  16. The Vikingst at 8-8!?! and his reasoning being the QB position is Ponder's?!?. That's more shocking/surprising/funny/unbelivable to me than the Bears at 7-9
  17. What about Olt/Castellanos (assuming we can get one for Garza), Barney, and one of Lake/Candelario (I'd hate to lose him but would be willing to trade him for Upton). Too much? Too little?
  18. Who did Hendry end up getting a job with?
  19. His BABIP against is only .248, I would've figured it would be lower with that few K's.
  20. They named K-Rod the closer today, he's pitching in the 9th right now against the Cardinals. Up 3-2 Cards have runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out....
  21. Is that Sullivan trying to be funny? Or are those real quotes?
  22. The Marlins are 12/16 in NL attendance this year. I'm too lazy to look this up, but when has a team ever opened up a brand new ballpark in a major city and managed only to improve from dead last to 12th? Why does this team even exist?! Who's behing them? If I had to guess, in no particular order, Rockies, Astros, Padres, Pirates? That's awful that they have only seen that little of a spike in attendance
  23. Lakers making great moves so far this offseason, adding Howard to that team would be disgusting. Agreed, if they get Howard on top of their moves already they are the clear #2 team in the West and big threat for the Thunder. I also think taking back J. Richardson in a Howard deal would be smart for them. He's not getting paid a ton (think like $6-8mm a year) but still enough that the Magic probably want his salary gone if they are blowing it up and he's another guy that would bolster their awful bench.
  24. Weren't the Reyes, Buerhle, and Bell (also there's the whole fact Bell sucks now) deals all incredibly backloaded too? Good luck getting a return for any of those guys, Loria.
