  1. You mean pitchers, the most unique/volatile/unpredictable asset in sports, shouldn't be treated as and molded into a one size fits all approach and should all be groomed to their own unique, underlying abilities and shortcomings?!?!?! It's maddening but also great we are on the right side of it, that the one size fits all approach seems to be so prevalent in the game. Then there's Bosio (I know it's more complicated than this) sitting over there just going, "hey there's a reason you were drafted/made it to MLB, why don't you just go back to what got you here and feel most comfortable using."
  2. Is Gonzalez hurt or is he playing the OF?
  3. Addy is gonna be just as difficult to extend as KB for the same reason Very true. One more question off the Willson one. Bryce Harper signs a 10-year contract with an AAV of $37 to $40 million after the 2018 season. Since Scott Boras would have just negotiated that, would you as GM be willing to approach him and offer the same exact deal for Bryant? Bryant would be entering his age 27 season in 2019 and would still be under control through 2021 even if you don't do anything. This would lock him up for his first 10 years of free agency, going through his age 39 season. Obviously, that deal would be rough in the final couple seasons, but that's also what free agency presents for the best of the best. OK. I'll stop now. I'd probably not do that, there's a fair amount of risk there and you'd largely be paying for past performance when the extension kicks in. I know Bryant is insanely talented, perhaps a generational talent, and can probably be moved to LF/1B as he ages (he's not gonna be a Miguel Cabrera or Pujols where he's a DH you have to hide at 1B in the NL) but to lock someone up that far out is pretty risky when we have him for most of his prime years. I don't blame Bryant for not giving a discount at all right now but I don't see a ton of upside in doing what you laid on there and really only see downside from the team side.
  4. Eh, I love Willson but if we have him through his age 30 season I'd be fine riding it out year by year. Knowing there's a 0 chance on Bryant to extend the only guy I'd really like to see an extension for is Russell. Everyone else I'm fine with letting it ride for various reasons.
  5. Time to treat Cole like the Jabroni he is, he's gotten the better of us his last 2 outings.
  6. They were the low Derek Lee hands before they were the low Rizzo hands. Huh? He held the bat really high, comparatively speaking to Rizzo's/Heyward's hands. Are you thinking of Aramis? I think he lowered his hands over the course of his career/time with us. http://www.thedailycub.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/Derek-Lee-200x300.jpg http://a.espncdn.com/photo/2010/0818/mlb_i_lee_b1_200.jpg
  7. Chris Coghlan started at 3B tonight for the Jays, good god are they a dumpster fire
  8. I don't know if they'd do a trade because of stupid rivalry reasons, if they are smart FO's they should if it's mutually beneficial, but I was listening to some Wisconsin sports radio today (I had to drive a lot for work to different meetings) and a lot of the Packers reporters/radio dudes think a trade down is in play with their first round pick to a team looking to come in late 1st to get a QB to get the 5th year of control. The Packers have a lot of holes to fill and their areas of need are the relative strengths of this draft (secondary players, edge rushers, RB) so they'd be fine adding 1-2 additional picks for dropping out of the first, was their thinking/predictions. I am kinda fan of Watson, at least like him the most of the "top" QBs in this class, but taking him or any of the other ones at 3 would be really dumb. IMO.
  9. Wtf was that with Dallas Braden there
  10. I think the trainer has come out in every Anderson start so far this year, this guy is something
  11. Sure would be nice to have Hammel, too bad his like $8 mil was too much to hang around
  12. This umps zone is horsefeathering huge
  13. I get he's starting because of Anderson's GB tendencies, but Javy vs a RHP who throws 25% sliders doesn't seem like a ideal matchup.
  14. Being able to stay hitting, whether it's DH or position on non-pitching days apparently is a big deal to him. No team should be stupid enough to offer that, by almost all accounts I've read he's a non-prospect, essentially, as a hitter.
  15. Don't know if this was posted anywhere.... http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/sunday-notes-whitleys-cattle-cubs-butler-gausmans-analogy-yard-goats-more/
  16. The Mets, they suck
  17. Hudson is left-handed Chris Volstad, right? Huge dude that looks like he should bring it but throws with less than impressive velo? Unless he shows he's moving towards Hendricks level command/control he's a nothing to me.
  18. [tweet] [/tweet]
  19. With Votto not holding Heyward I was pretty surprised he wasn't stealing 2B
