  1. [tweet]https://twitter.com/DeuceBaseman/status/943247546222333952[/tweet] DeuceBaseman for President and GM!
  2. Didn’t know this but Yu is the all time MLB leader in K/9
  3. Don’t disagree. As long as the other moves happen. I wonder if some form of a 3-way actually makes the most sense to get this done (again don’t know if I like it)..... Cubs get: Machado, Yelich, Britton, Starlin Baltimore gets: Baez/Russell, Monty, Ziegler, non Alzolay Cubs minor leaguer Marlins get: Baez/Russell, Happ and Alzolay
  4. I’d rather keep Russell and trade Baez. Send Baez and Monty to Baltimore for Machado and Britton and Happ to Miami in the Yelich trade. Overall though I’d lean towards not doing this sequence of moves for one year of Machado. It would be fun but idk. Yelich Bryant Rizzo Machado Schwarber Contreras Heyward Russell Oh my
  5. I hope “we’re in this” just to drive the price up on someone unless it is part of a waterfall of events like Yelich+Britton+Gausman
  6. Aren’t the Astros really cheap? Like there had to be some major arm twisting to acquire Verlander when they knew they were one of the best 2-3 teams in MLB and needed a starter?
  7. Really good stuff. I think I want him to be our nominal closer to start the year. Carl, Morrow, Strop, and Wilson (hopefully) can have the 6-8 inning leverage spots. If there’s a situation where there’s some lefty heavy (or elite Harper, Seager, Murphy, etc) parts of a lineup coming up then go with Morrow/Carl/Wilson in those games to close.
  8. Also going the Darvish route over Arrieta nets us the draft pick, which isn't all that great but still a little something extra.
  9. Obviously the Cobb, and maybe others, asking price being higher than expected/wanted is playing a role but I think it's a fair assumption to think Darvish's price may be down a bit too. MLBTR had him at 6/160 and Fangraphs was 6/168 and median crowdsources was 5/125, where do we think it's dropped to or we think Theo/Jed think is the price point to be this far along in meeting with him? 5/130? 6/145? Could it potentially be down to 4/100-110? You have to assume the AAV is no higher than ~$25 for LT purposes and if I had to guess the years are down to 4 or 5 guaranteed.
  10. Any Japanese reference in there to Jager shots being taken?
  11. There are but they are going to carry their own risks/be just as expensive with no more security of being a “good/safe deal.” Keuchel, Kershaw, Pomeranz, Garrett Richards, Corbin and Harvey are the top names off the top of my head. Price can opt out too. As a side note I believe Fernandez would’ve been a FA next offseason too
  12. We don’t give up a pick since he was traded mid year. And I’m guessing with this renewed interest they think the market for him may be down on the 6/25 aav
  13. I'm later than you are to the party, but didn't they(FO or Maddon, can't remember) make it clear that Monty was a reliever only going forward? Prettt much yeah, I think the comment was they don’t mind him being a starter if needed during the year but ideally he’s not depended on/given one of the 5 spots out of ST.
  14. [tweet] [/tweet]
  15. If Theo/Jed are going out of their way to meet with him you have to think talks are pretty advanced/serious
  16. Nice cover your ass tweet by that hack connecting us to every pitcher since he clearly knows nothing about which one(s) is most likely.
  17. I know he’s never healthy and maybe they’ll hold on to him to eat some innings/hope he stays healthy for the first half and maybe get a decent prospect at the deadline. But if McCarthy gets cut or could be had for just organizational filler I’d be interested. We could just go sign a Hellickson or Chacin or something too I guess and it would be cheaper. But the little he has been healthy the last 3 years McCarthy has been good to average.
  18. Yeah, probably shouldn’t trade that guy.
  19. Question about the LT, how is the aav decided on a deal like Scherzer’s that pays him out for like 10-20 years after the playing contract with deferments? It doesn’t get divided by the duration he’s paid, right? Just the duration of the playing years in the contract?
  20. It’s too bad Stearns is smart and realizes, like the majority of the board, the Brewers are a bunch of sucky bunch of sucks and literally their whole roster is a regression candidate. If Melvin was still running things he’d spend major FA money/prospect assets because last seasons team tricked him in to thinking they were good when they really are a low-mid 70s win team as presently constructed. I think Sterns is gonna low key tank them this year with their expected regression and lack of quality additions.
  21. They have to re-sign Keyshawn (or at least replace him plus probably another 1-2 rotation spots) I also think Machado is a better fit for them. Move Seager to 2B, or Turner to 1B (Bellinger to OF until Tuner’s deal is up). Regardless, horsefeathers you Braves.
  22. Anything from just signing Hellickson to a cheap guaranteed 1 year deal with incentives to a mega trade for Archer/Stroman or signing Darvish wouldn't surprise me TBH. What would you prefer to see happen? (I should've rephrased the original question...) Cobb is probably still my preference assuming the $20 mil aav isn't true/his price comes down (something like 3/50 I'd live with), then probably a salary dump Samardzija trade, then probably Darvish is my third option (if Samardzija takes a Happ or major league level guy I'd prefer Darvish). If none of those happen I'd prefer not to do a Archer trade and just go the cheap route (though I wouldn't be happy with it) and do like Hellickson and some sort of flyer guy along the Anderson level from last year.
