  1. I really appreciate the time it must take them to do it and them putting it out there as a reference point but I don't think it's that hard to hit estimates within a reasonable margin of error. If they have a guy(s) taking the time to do it with the amount of information out there to compare similar players/past amounts I don't think it's crazy tough to find the 2-5 most similar comps for players and add a % increase for inflation/rising salary costs and hit in the ballpark of the final salary. I don't think it takes some super complex model.
  2. Theo docked him 50k for the 50,000 walks he had after we traded for him last year.
  3. Starting to see on twitter deals come in from teams and players avoiding arbitration. Hopefully we get some settlements on our guys soon to really figure out how much room we have in respect to the LT.
  4. Darvish turned down 7/160 from the Yankees (they pulled the offer after 48 hours after he didn’t accept), apparently, according to Michael Kay. I’m skeptical of that given the source.
  5. Where does the LT penalty money go? Do non-offenders get it paid to them divided up evenly? Does it go to the poor/small market teams? Does it go to just some general MLB fund?
  6. Don’t know who these guys are or who they are replacing (if anyone) but good to see we continue to keep most of the FO intact [tweet]https://twitter.com/carriemuskat/status/951537417290420224[/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet] Edit: The Harris dude is apparently the bread eater, lol
  7. I'd be fine going to 4/85-95 with an opt out for either of Jake or Darvish. Wouldn't do 5 years on Jake but I'd be okay with doing 5/105-115 for Yu with the opt out. Cobb can go horsefeathers off at this point unless he comes for 3 years or less and $15 aav or less.
  8. "Chicks dig the long ball", not "Chicks dig outfielders with above average UZR scores" So their outfield of Cespedes/Conforto/Bruce left to right has to be one of the worst OF defenses ever, right? Especially because Conforto’s shoulder exploded and who knows how he’s gonna be able to throw. Just seems like an awful deal, 2 of Jay/Jackson/Gonzalez/Bautista/Gomez/Kendrick /etc for like $15 million total over 1-2 years would produce the same WAR
  9. These guys are just lying
  10. Bruce was worth a little more than 2 fWAR last year but the previous 3 he was worth like .3 total
  11. He said at the beginning of the offseason he’d take a lesser role to be on a contender
  12. Good or bad?
  13. Grote was just kinda there for me, didn’t really move the needle for me either way and I didn’t notice anything weird like that but now I probably will. I hope the new guy isn’t a bum as I have no idea who he is.
  14. Exactly how I feel. Happ is the only guy who could/would hurt a bit or come close to Yelich’s production and losing some position/roster flexibility with him sucks. But Yelich is so very good, young and controlled I’m fine with it. There’s a handful of cheapish guys available every year in FA (like Maybin and Jackson like I mentioned above) that can give you what Almora can. And yeah don’t care what pitching they want or we lose.
  15. Is there any way to stay under the LT if we trade for Yelich, sign Yu, sign Maybin, Gomez or Jackson (if Happ/Almora are both traded we need a RHH OF who can play all 3 spots) and also bring Avila back? That would be a phenomenal end to the offseason.
  16. I don't think I'd pay that price, but at the same time I don't think it's necessarily an unfair ask. i'd do it yesterday Yeah, I'd do Happ, Almora and Alzolay (or whatever pitching prospect they want) all day.
  17. Don’t know how you could be against trading him as the main MLB piece to get Yelich and Castro
  18. Trade for Yelich and throw Castro in so we take on that contract and the Marlins save more money... then trade him to [insert another team in a rebuilding process] I’d trade Javy as the main piece for that package
  19. Avila is the only one of that group who’s actually any good
  20. There will be a weekly meeting where they smell each other’s farts
  21. Good move for us
  22. He was my #1 choice for realistic backup catcher, hopefully Avila can be fit in somehow
  23. As an outsider, non Bears fan, looking in this seems like a really solid hire (even with all the gushing/positive spin articles that typically come with a new hire).
  24. Bama kicker is legit going to need to go in to witness protection if they lose this game
  25. I saw a tweet after the Nagy hiring today that all focus was on keeping Fangio since they have until tomorrow to exclusively negotiate or something and the guy who tweeted that expected a deal to get done.
