  1. Bradon Finnegan left his start with forearm tightness today and Desclafani has a strained oblique. So the Reds pitching march to keep their team ERA under 10 takes a hit.
  2. That sounds about right +/- a spot or two on the comp picks (might still depend on where Cobb and Holland go since they are the only 2 FA left with QO's attached I believe). Really hoping we end with 1-2 solid prospects that pan out with the 5 picks in the top 100 and 4 in the top 80. I may have asked this already, but how much extra draft pool do the 2 QO picks net us?
  3. Yeah, this went about perfectly. The whole off-season did really. The Dodgers stood still. We actually stole a couple important pieces from them. We loaded up. The Cards and Brewers both made good trades. But they were also half measures after they stopped there. The Brewers off-season especially seemed so half-assed. Like why sign a 32 year old Cain if you aren’t going to add pitchers, especially factoring in the market tanking on SP. They should’ve added 2 of Cobb/Jake/Lynn or not signed Cain and spent that money on Darvish + Cobb or Lynn still.
  4. horsefeathers, I would loved for him to go to any of them. I don't think he's going to age well at all. I go back and forth on that. Like obviously 2015 Jake, top 5-10 pitcher in the league, isn’t showing up anymore. But he was really good in the 2nd half last year and his playoff starts. I don’t think it would be crazy if he’s a 2.5-3.5 WAR pitcher for most of this next contract.
  5. Seems like Jake could end up with a big deal. Though maybe to get to 5 and 125+ he needs to hit unlikely attainable options like CY Youngs or something.
  6. FWIW, ZiPS has them on par or maybe even better than the Brewers, although admittedly even with my doubts, ZiPS undersells Milwaukee. Seems about right. Both teams could win mid-high 80s and be in WC contention but also could end up low 70s. Both probably end up between 76 and 82 wins. Right now I think the NL tiers are Cubs/Nats/Dodgers at the top then D’backs/Cardinals/Giants behind that tier then Brewers/Phillies/Rockies/Mets (if some of the pitchers stay healthy) then the next tier is everyone else.
  7. I like both moves for Philly and think they are on a good trajectory the next 2-4+ years and yeah if everything breaks right they could win 87 games and be a WC team but we have very different definitions of a "very competitive team," Bob..
  8. Good for Jake. Sad to see him go, hope he gets $75-90 mil here. Glad he didn’t go to the Nats, Brewers or Cardinals
  9. He’s not “back” as we’ll never see a golfer dominate like he did again with how talented the field is these days but he’s back
  10. Jorge had some good springs too
  11. 7ks in 4 innings. Anyone see velo reports or how his “new” curveball looked?
  12. I think that’s pretty funny
  13. I don’t think trading down from 4 would be a terrible move. Take Barley 1, QB goes 2, Chubb or someone to Indy then get a QB desperate team to come up to 4 (Bills?) to trade down.
  14. Congrats to Kizer on his hall of fame career
  15. I do think the option thing also can be a reason you can’t do a QO. If a team doesn’t pick up their side of an option I think they can’t QO you.
  16. That’s a rule? I just thought the only way we don’t get a pick is if he signs after the draft?
  17. So they go Barkley and Chubb 1 and 4?
  18. Worse bat, better defense/flexibility Also, LaStella is a borderline second division starter as a 2B. That’s what I was getting at second division starter type, platoon/depth guy on a good team I guess. Which is fine, we need those. Especially with Zobrist gone soon and LaStella likely gone when he hits FA.
  19. Heyward’s leadoff double off the wall looked like his oppo HR off Jake in the NLDS
  20. [tweet] [/tweet]
  21. Could this Bote guy be like a right-handed LaStella type or is there more there?
  22. I don’t think he’s all that great but seems like a deal the Cardinals should’ve done
  23. Someone got in to Joe’s stash last night
