  1. I’ve seen a decent amount of articles about how Puig, Pederson, Kemp and Verdugo are being shopped. Also plenty of articles saying they’re a little skeptical how much they’re in on Harper because they don’t like big FA deal (or at least Friedman and the FO don’t).
  2. That makes a lot more sense than picking up Hamels option and then realizing they don't have any money left in the bank without dumping salary. I haven't double checked how tight 2020 might be recently to know exactly how likely that outcome is though. Spotrac has us at 115 committed for next year, pre-arb (so maybe ~$165 after arbitration?) and 60 committed for 21’ pre-arb. Edit: forgot Rizzo and Q have options for next year which wouldn’t be committed money. So we are probably at ~$200 mil after arb and all options exercised + guaranteed contracts.
  3. Get WetButt on the line! I wonder if “trading future dollars” means more they don’t want to or “can’t” pay him $35-40 mil+ this year and with all the money coming off the next 2 years they want to pay him more like $20 mil this year and jump it starting in 2 years but Bryce/Boras want more in the first year or two and “trading future dollars” doesn’t necessarily mean having to trade money off this year (like yes I’m sure they’d be more than happy to dump Kintzler or Chatwood) but it’s more in relation to his deal and how they want it structured?
  4. Why can’t it be they are making an over the top pitch while also playing it down publicly? We never really knew of the Lester and Heyward interest until it got close and after the fact about how they pitched it. It’s not like Theo took out a front page ad in the tribune the day after the season ended to woo those guys, everything was secretive then too and our interest was played down. why do I feel like people just keep making up "we never knew they were interested in X" stories? There were rumors we could or would be interested and on here we all thought a lot of the guys that we ended up signing made a lot of sense going in to an offseason. But our interest always seemed to be downplayed and we would be listed with a group of ~6 other teams in on guys but there were always qualifiers that kept us maybe out on guys.
  5. They also didn’t tell everyone they couldn’t afford him. The Otani courting was also very public as it happened There definitely was the talk on not going to certain prices on Lester and they were hesistant. Ohtani was public because that was the nature of a FA posting period like that. It was hard to fake interest in him last year.
  6. Other teams were rumored to be more in on him during FA I’m almost certain (Braves for sure and maybe the Giants and one or two others). We also got the “Cubs will check in, but has to be their numbers/terms” type talk. It was far from being a given publicly outside of our dear friend NoCode on here.
  7. Every single time they’ve wanted a player, they’ve gone over the top making a pitch to him. They’ve never once played hard to get, because that would be dumb.
  8. Jesse is a horsefeathering nitwit
  9. Didn't we decide that Loxas was a questionable source? So far the optimistic reports are from Plesac (not based on actual news just speculation), Dicaro, Charles the Cat and Tom Loxas. The pessimistic reports are from everyone else. Levine and Bernstein too have had more optimistic reports. Altman from Cubs Insider has also said optimistic things lately but I’m assuming whatever “source” he has is the same one Loxas claims to have (which I doubt either really has one for good or bad info) but him and Loxas have changed their tune. Rosenthal seems to go back and forth and Mooney just seems to want to be a doom boner since he’s been at the Athletic. Bottom line is I don’t think anyone really knows what we are doing, just like nobody had the Nats and Corbin. I’m going to hope and latch on to the positive stuff when I see it until I don’t have too. Especially since Dicaro and Bernstein have been right on stuff with Theo here over any of these other people (including national guys).
  10. He’s hasn’t played since 2017 and had double heel/foot surgery last year. I don’t care, pick him up and ship Russell away.
  11. In terms of projected value or their projection for contract for him? How much they claim he was worth $$$$-wise the last couple of seasons. Got it, good for him. He seems like a great guy. I just would’ve guessed he’d win up at 2 years and high 20s or low 30s.
  12. Somewhat surprisingly, it likely isn't (according to FG). In terms of projected value or their projection for contract for him?
  13. [tweet] [/tweet] The MLBN radio guys were just saying they were hearing Bryce doesn’t really want to go to Philly as well
  14. 3/50, wow. I would’ve been fine with 2 years and like ~$25 mil for him and shipping Albert’s bum ass out. But 3/50, seems like a decent sized overpay.
  15. He always seems to give us problems so glad we don’t need to face him 3-6 times a year now.
  16. The Pirates' window shut in a hurry, yeesh It’s been closed for 3-4 years
  17. If it’s just a back up catcher, who cares. Vic horsefeathering sucks, it could be an upgrade.
  18. How soon can they get out of Cousins deal? Has to be at least 2 more years?
  19. What the hell are the Mets doing??? Just keep Syndergaard and sign Grandal/Ramos, you’re giving up a 3-5+ win pitcher who’s controlled for a catcher who’s as expensive and maybe ~1.5 wins better than the FA options. You’re getting worse (or staying as good) and more expensive since I’d assume they’ll go spend money on a SP now. No horsefeathers Cashman is pushing to do this and horsefeathers them if somehow the Marlins/Jeets take back bad money of theirs
  20. Didn’t almost all these reporters say/walk back recently they don’t know what’s true and what we are up to including that early offseason leak of no money? So we have no idea what the basis for “nothing’s changed” means. Also we’re to believe these guys at their words and they totally have sources when they didn’t even get the news out Morrow had surgery until over 1 month after it happened.
  21. I really don’t think the Cubs Athletic guys have any idea what’s going on and don’t really have a history of having real sources or breaking much even Rosenthal at their own company isn’t as down on the Cubs as them. Bernstein (Morrow), Dicaro (Heyward And Tanaka) at least have a history of breaking/being first to report stuff under Theo. Levine I don’t think has been reporting this spending limitations stuff as hard as the Atheltic guys have been either all offseason.
  22. Yeah there’s a pretty good chance Jed’s only in Vegas to make Jager/booze, Starbucks and food runs for Theo. Maybe he gets to double check some numbers but isn’t told what players/transaction they’re tied to. Oh he also is probably in charge or making sure the bread eater doesn’t die and has to replenish the bread supply every hour.
  23. “Mystery Owner” is a new one. Lol
  24. I terms of veteran leader bench player, Jeff Sullivan did a “30 moves for every team” article on ESPN today. He mentioned Chatwood for Russell Martin as our trade. Martin is owed $20 million (just this year then a FA with a $16.5 LT hit) Chatwood is owed $25.5 over the next 2 (12.6 LT hit). Seems like definitely there’s something to work with there. Could even work in Kintzler or Duensing this year to mitigate the extra LT and cash hit then pay them cash next year and throw in a prospect for their troubles.
