  1. I can’t see him taking 4/5 years unless he’s literally getting $45-50+ mil a year (which just doesn’t seem possible). He’d be leaving too much money on the table. Someone (hopefully us) will eventually go 9-12 years in the low to mid $30s on aav.
  2. i wouldn't rather be a dodgers fan until they win a world series again. right now we've still got it better imo. they're basically in "none of this means anything until we actually win a championship" mode, no matter how good things go during the regular season. things are not all roses over there. Oh, definitely agree. I'm not saying I'd swap out with them at all, especially with the WS banked (and even moving forward we are on an even footing at worst). It's just frustrating, at the moment, to see them on the verge of the FU offseason we were hoping we would have. I still trust Theo and hold out hope we figure Harper out. But man it really sucks right now from the outside looking in that our biggest competitor is about to make big moves when we are handcuffed and at best making moves on the margins (which I feel like our FO sees the Dodgers are the team to truly worry about in terms of measuring things against and projecting, they aren't worried about Central teams as we are going to be projected better than anyone else int he division no matter what).
  3. https://chicago.suntimes.com/sports/idelined-budget-cubs-reds-cards-add-dodgers-bryce-harper/ Was just coming to post that. Good stuff. The market is starting to slim if the Dodgers are really more focused on guys like Kluber. There were indications that Harper wasn’t really interested in Philly and the Phillies were more focused on Machado. The White Sox could outbid us but if the offers are close I think we know where he’d prefer to sign. Yankees are also a threat even though they have repeatedly said they weren’t in on him. The field would include teams like the Angels I guess but overall it really seems like we’ve gotten just enough info leaked from the Cubs side to know that they want to get him, and based on how things are playing out, he’s there for the taking. So like let’s get him Yeah hopefully it’s true it’s more Kluber, a Realmuto, Pollock, Castellanos, Haniger types the Dodgers are after with their money they opened up. I still have my doubts they aren’t really in in Harper but good to hear.

  5. Must be nice to be able to have all these decisions and ability to make moves to improve an already good team.
  6. Why trade Smyly for Smyly 2.0? Maybe they just didn’t feel they could give Smyly a role this year/didn’t like him for the role that he’d have or were still worried about health? Smyly also makes more this year than the whole deal is worth for Graveman. So we save some money/Smyly helped minimize Hamel’s cost (looking at that option exercise and trade of Smyly as a deal in a vacuum).
  7. I like Graverman and his sinker is pretty damn good when healthy (95-98 MPH), seems like a low risk move and he could be a good swingman type in a year and maybe can be back at the end of the year (like Smyly almost was). Seems like a type of move we should be making every year in adding a guy like him and Smyly since the cost and risk are minimal and our pitching depth isn’t the greatest (though hopefully improving some as there are some arms, though not great TOR ones, starting to move through the system).
  8. Puig and Wood aren’t “very valuable” get the hell out of here. They’re okay players. I’d liken Puig to Zobrist and Wood to Monty in terms of trade value. They're both 3 win players. They're not "stars" but they're really solid players. Wood would be a 5 win pitcher if he was able to make 32 stars. Puig has been worth 3 wins or more once since 2014 (technically 2.9) and has been under 2 more times than not. Alex Wood clearly hasn’t shown an ability to stay healthy at all, so that’s just projecting something that isn’t probable at all.
  9. Well, to be fair, the three players the Dodgers traded have some intrinsic value, while the players we would like to unload are extremely bad. Even if this is a salary dump, I'm surprised not to hear more substantial names other than Bailey because Puig and Wood are both very valuable players. Puig and Wood aren’t “very valuable” get the hell out of here. They’re okay players. I’d liken Puig to Zobrist and Wood to Monty in terms of trade value.
  10. Peralta was worth nearly 4 WAR last year. Puig hasn’t been worth that much or more since 2013. Check their projections Didn’t realize that and also Peralta was 31 vs Puig 28. For some reason I thought Peralta was closer to 26-27.
  11. Peralta is better than Puig I don't know if I buy that, but even if true Puig was still the only guy available anywhere close to as fun as Harper. Peralta was worth nearly 4 WAR last year. Puig hasn’t been worth that much or more since 2013.
  12. Peralta is better than Puig
  13. So KB gonna be a Dodger in 3 years now too
  14. Well it’s over
  15. Seems to be their trade to clear room for Harper
  16. Heyward, Kintzler, Amaya, Zack Short, And literally any pitching prospect(s) for Melancon. Sign Tulo, send Russell to the sun, sign Britton/Allen/Robertson, sign Bryce.
  17. 2/25 for Miller. Certainly reasonable, but obviously he just might be broken. I’d do that same deal +/- for Britton or Allen (I’m starting to really be intrigued by Allen, his underlying stuff was mostly fine/inline with his awesome years last year and if the market never fully develops for him I’d love to add him).
  18. Kinda glad we avoided him. His contract wasn’t bad or anything but would hope we are aiming higher. Robertson, Allen, Ottavino, Britton (if medicals check out and they feel good), etc.
  19. Well crap. Waiting on the contract before I consider this a good or bad deal
  20. That’s a lot of money for Murphey and Sanchez. Rockies are paying like $90 mil at 1B for 2-3 WAR a year
  21. Allen Webster back on a minor league deal. Glad we were able to keep him.
  22. I'm not going to pretend I'm not enough of a hypocrite to just switch off a lifetime of Cub fandom over all of this, but I am dead serious about not directly giving the team any of my dollars. Yeah, I'll watch games, but I'm not paying for a damn thing. Yeah I think that's the line I'm drawing too. I'm going to watch the games, because I frankly don't have the willpower not to, but I'm not buying tickets while Russell's on the team. And one of the more striking things to this saga is that Russell's not even good anymore, which shows just how little of a crap the team gives. The Chapman thing was rightly described as a deal with the devil because they did something bad for a much better chance at the world series. At this juncture they are holding onto Russell because they'd rather pay him $4m to be league average than pay Jody Mercer $5m to be slightly worse. The stakes could barely be any lower for dumping him, and yet they're still plowing ahead. Unreal. Yup. Just cut him and sign Tulo for the minimum. I would assume that would be a plenty appealing spot for Tulo to come here with the playing time opportunities and we get this monster away. Whatever money we save on cutting Russell and signing Tulo should be sent to the moms and kids as well. Or something like that to take care of these women and children.
