I find it amazing that any writer is still mentioning the Cubs as a possibility after everything that has been written and said. In fairness Buster Olney isn’t really a writer. He’s a dumb horsefeathers.

Oladipo/Zeller Hoosiers? Years are running together on me, but I think this is it.I would’ve guess one of the Wisconsin Final 4 teams or a Michigan/MSU team did it after (this would’ve been 2011?) but maybe this is right.

Yeah I think Buster was given BS information or is just making horsefeathers up again (like with the KB trade “rumor”). No way that offer was real, or at least his best/highest offer. These idiots keep proving over again this offseason they don’t know what’s going with anyone. At best it was a leak to Buster by the White Sox to show they were “in” on a big time FA to show their fans they are “serious.”

The longer this drags out and the longer we make no moves of substance it makes me think we are more in on Bryce than is known. I think we have the moves/trades lined up to sign him if he tells us he wants to come/accepts our offer, but we aren’t going to make those moves if he doesn’t come because we need Heyward, Zobrist Happ, whoever it takes to move $$ etc. to win this year without Bryce and we don’t have the room to sign Bryce and do any of the reliever moves that have been done (Miller, Britton, etc) so that’s why we’ve done nothing essentially since we need to wait on Bryce. I also still think Descalso was brought in as some insurance in case Zobrist, Happ, Bote go in a trade to clear room for Bryce and if it doesn’t happen he’s overqualified for the LaStella role which is fine.

That must be why Rizzo isn’t going. Too jealous of watching the KB and Harper bromance Not our fault he doesn’t have any friends that are good baseball players. I can think of one guy, look at how he embraces the tiny face. That’s true bromance

Lester has missed in the past, IIRC, he does his charity golf outing around this weekend every year and Rizzo is on his honeymoon. I wouldn’t be surprised if the have some pre-recorded content with Rizzo they’ll show or like call/video him in for a segment via Skype or FaceTime or something.

And .318 the year before. There are no guarantees at his age. I definitely agree on the age thing. If he’s complete garbage or limited this year we shouldn’t be surprised. But we do know he had the wrist injury for most of 2017 that he was stupidly playing through that and it clearly affected him (thanks again medical staff!). There was a cause of his below average 2017.

Seems like a pretty big deal MLB is allowing this and setting the precedent for the draft rules now to really not matter (not that these guys shouldn’t be paid, more surprised they are allowing it). I’d assume most highly drafted players/agents will try and pull this move now to get more money.

Um it's literally what the sentence says. "Phillies emerge as clear-cut favorite to land Bryce Harper after 5-hour meeting". that doesn't mean the length of the meeting is what made them the favorite We should schedule a 6 hour meeting with Bryce just to be sure it’s not important and take as many variables off the table as possible.

While I agree with the sarcastic sentiment here, Zobrist is old and crusty, and there’s no guarantee he’ll continue to get on base at a —— holy crap! He had a .378 OBP last year?!? Nevermind. Plus he needs like four days off per week. The optimal lineup has him leading off, IMO. But yeah he needs 2-3 days off a week at this point and with Joe being Joe (I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing) you know so many guys are going to be in and out and in different spots in the lineup it doesn’t really matter. Just have the best 3-5 batters/platoon split guys on a given day hit at the top and we’ll be fine. We’ll end up having 6-8 different leadoff hitters by year end anyways with how Joe works things (off the top of my head I’d be shocked if all of Zobrist, Almora, Rizzo, Descalso, Happ, and Heyward don’t get at least 1 game at leadoff and probably another guy or two will as well).

The Padres have asked about Bote/we’ve had discussions with them about him. Allegedly. Figure out a way to have them take Chatwood for him.
