Cubs Lineup: 1. RF Kosuke Fukudome 2. SS Starlin Castro 3. CF Marlon Byrd 4. 3B Aramis Ramirez 5. 1B Carlos Pena 6. C Geovany Soto 7. LF Tyler Colvin 8. 2B Darwin Barney 9. P Casey Coleman Brewers Lineup: 1. 2B Rickie Weeks 2. CF Carlos Gomez 3. LF Ryan Braun 4. 1B Prince Fielder 5. RF Mark Kotsay 6. SS Yuniesky Betancourt 7. 3B Craig Counsell 8. C George Kottaras 9. P Yovani Gallardo For all the talk about being at such a disadvantage against Gallardo, I would think facing a lineup that has Mark Kotsay, Yuniesky Betancourt, Craig Counsell, and George Kottaras batting in a row and making up nearly half the lineup mitigates the Gallardo advantage.
Who would you rather have pitching in this situation? Stevens, Maine, Caridad, Diamond, just about any other minor leaguer. We know that Shark isn't good, might as well see if any of those other guys can turn into something.
Garza's first start was really good. The Pirates only had singles and didn't hit anything hard. All their hits were ground balls hit in the perfect spot or little bloopers over the IF.
I'll be in attendance Friday in Milwaukee. Got some good seats right behind home plate. Hopefully Z is on and we can get back above .500. Really excited to see Castro in person for the first time.
He's not. He's seeing the ball well; he's just not putting his best swings on it. I've watched most of the games and have seen him swing quite a few times at crappy pitches low and away. But it's early so everything is magnified and I may think it is a bigger issue than it really is. But yea, he isn't making good contact at all except for a few ab's.
Soto looks like he still is putting it together. He's taking good hittable pitches for strikes and chasing bad pitches and not making good contact when he swings. Hopefully he figures it out soon. I guess the silver lining is, Bad Soto>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Good Hill
Well 2B is the most likely spot where there are guys available and we have a clear need. I would think Brian Roberts, Michael Young, Chone Figgins, Jose Reyes, and Aaron Hill will all be available to some extent. I'd only take Young or Figgins if a significant portion of their contracts were paid for by their respective teams Then there are always a good amount of SP and RP available if we would be needing to upgrade at one or both of those spots. I think a RH power bat off the bench who could play some OF/1B would be a nice addition as well.
I hate seeing this before Gameday has updated. I'll go ahead and guess nothing good happens with Upton. I was referring to the 2nd batter of the inning grounding out to 2B, Castro should have been able to turn a double play but had a hard time handling the ball after catching it to make a throw to 1B.
[expletive]. Castro took too much time, but that was some pretty shitty footwork by Pena over there. His back foot was on the RF side of first base, if he has it on the homeplate side of first he might have a shot at that one.
