  1. If its wrong to enjoy Sampson and Self losing games on consecutive nights, I don't want to be right. :D
  2. We are in no rush to offer abritration, as long as it is by the deadline. If team signs him today we can still offer arbitration and get the picks Isn't Pierre a type B free agent? If so, then the Cubs would get no compensation per the new labor agreement, right? We get a supplemental pick. The Giants don't have to give up anything. Thats the difference. I think. Teams that lose a Type B free agent will now earn a sandwich pick instead of taking selection from club that signed player. Link Thanks. A sandwich pick for Pierre would be terrific!

  4. The Red Sox should offer luxury trips to Japanese businessmen/tourists that include air/hotel/box seats/and a chance to meet Matsuzaka before the game. I bet they will find very creative ways to make back the $51.1mil "marketing" investment they just made.
  5. DeRosa is a usefull addition to the bench as a super-sub. Unfortunately, at 3 years, $4mil he's not being signed to come off the bench it seems. Because of the years/dollars involved, this is not a good signing. Add up a few more deals like this and there will not be budget for the true difference makers this team needs.
  6. I received my season ticket renewal info today and it appears that the Cubs will not be increasing ticket prices for 2007. I assume this applies to all tickets sold to the public -- not just season ticket prices. Another tidbit, they apparently have over 18,000 names currently on the season ticket wait list.
  7. Not a stupid question. The answer is 'Yes'. Reportedly, the groundwork for a lot of signings/trades is made during the GM meetings and those moves then get completed during the winter meetings.
  8. This makes me very happy. =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D>
  9. I'm holding out for a Fukudome jersey.
  10. Wow -- I wonder if their intent would be to then break up the various holdings and try to get more value out of the parts (i.e. sell the Cubs among other assets).
  11. I've seen a mock that had him going as the last pick of the 1st round -- to the Chicago Bears -- so he might get a chance to attempt to play both sports in the same town.... Best part of that mock draft was seeing the Bears projected as the last pick. :D
  12. It looks like draft pick compensation may in fact be on the way out (a good thing for the Cubs since they should be big players in free agency and can now do so without losing picks). Link
  13. LOL -- last time that happened to an AZ team, the Illini went to the Final Four on a miracle come back of their own. Awesome.
  14. Sorry this is a bit late, but.... WWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DA BEARS! That was unbelievable! un-f^%&*-believable! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
  15. Sad news: US Soccer assistant coach Glenn Myernick dies at age 51. He suffered a heart attack. Link
  16. Exactly the same for me -- I bet the farm that Chris Chambers would have a "Steve Smith" type year. Have him in both of my leagues and in one stupidly picked him over Marvin Harrison.... Doh!
  17. He missed by 1 vote -- everyone that left him off their ballot should be ashamed of themselves. RIP Buck O'Neil
  18. If you think about it, being the worst team in the National League is basically being the worst team in baseball. The Cubs deserve the #1 pick just for that!
  19. I mentioned this in another thread months ago, but other than figuring out their pitching situation, I think the White Sox are one of the few teams that has the right prospects to make a serious run at acquiring Miguel Cabrera this off-season (and he's about to get very expensive for Florida). I think the Marlins would need/want prospects that are close to the majors at 3B, CF, and pitching and the Sox could offer a package of Fields, Anderson, and McCarthy. Too much? Not for Miggy IMO.... That said, I pray it doesn't happen - I really, really want Miggy on the Cubs!
  20. I don't understand what they did wrong? The pitching staff went south. Who knew that Buerhle would crumble? Agreed -- IMO KW did a great job making a good team even better on paper this past off-season, but what looked good on paper did not materialize on the field. Maybe the starters threw too many innings last year and just didn't have anything left for this year, maybe the drive to win another championship isn't as strong as it is to win the first, or maybe it just goes to show how many things have to go your way to win it all.... 2005 White Sox = very lucky, 2006 White Sox = not so much luck. BTW -- not saying luck is the only reason they won last year. You have to be a good team for luck to even matter in the equation.
  21. No he's not -- he's arbitration eligible in 2007.
  22. I'm not sure how you can discount Zambrano's chances -- he is 1 off the pace in wins (a stat that gets a lot of votes regardless of how anyone feels about it), 1st in strikeouts (despite missing 2 starts), and 6th in ERA. A couple more outings like Sunday and I like Carlos' chances. BTW -- has a pitcher ever won the Cy Young and Silver Slugger in the same year? I'd love to see the photo of Z holding up both trophies. :D
  23. No. Yes. Neifi blows -- the fact that the Cubs had a better record when he didn't play then when he did is funny (and a frustrating reminder of the lack of intelligence in the dugout and front office). The fact that this can also now be said about the Tigers since his arrival in Detroit.... also amusing... even more so that it no longer means heartburn for Cubs fans.
  24. The Cubs are dumb -- this is and has been their only curse.
