  1. I went to the whole DBacks series and am in St Louis today. Originally I was going to go to today's game, but I didn't want a bad taste in my mouth after that awesome weekend. Stupid me.
  2. Goijg to this one. Going to be amazing.
  3. I figured this fits well here. I recently went to a Royals game for a company event with my wife's company. It was Cueto's first start in KC and he threw a CG shutout. We missed the Royals score pretty much all their runs in the first because the guy bringing the tickets for 40+ people was late. Then I don't think anybody even realized Cueto was pitching until the crowd went bonkers for him when he came out for the ninth. Then we went to a semi-pro game with my company. One of my coworkers was trying to convince everyone that he could hit off the pitching in this league. I know for a fact that he cannot. And of course he kept giving his (wrong) opinions about everything that was happening on the field. When he finally claimed he could hit a HR into the bullseye of a sign that would give the player who hit the bullseye $100,000 one of my other coworkers said, "Back in '82, I used to be able to throw a pigskin a quarter mile."
  4. I want to add that series was really annoying to watch. One reason I believe is that the only inning the entire series where the Cubs began the home half of the inning with the lead was the bottom of the 8th last night. Pretty much always felt like we were coming from behind and then when we did tie it or take the lead the Reds almost always took it right back.
  5. I vote Iglesias doesn't locate so well starting in the second inning.
  6. Rizzo's Disco Ball would be a great username.
  7. Ah. So glad to win this one. Let's get the series tomorrow.
  8. I thought that was halfway up the bleachers. Dang
  9. Odd response considering the dude popped up and didn't even realize he hit a homerun.
  10. I remember "In play, run(s)" at my parents' last house which means at least 2005. Speaking of In play, run(s)
  11. I'm getting pretty pissed at this offense right now.
  12. Arrieta is likely pitching that Wild Card game. The Wild Card games have been incredible. I'm really excited about it.
  13. And you guys are all crazy. Watching the Cubs magic number dwindle this month is going to be awesome.
  14. There are 32 games left.... If the Cubs go... 10-22, the Giants would have to go at least 16-15 AND the Dodgers at least 12-20 to eliminate the Cubs 16-16, the Giants would have to go at least 22-9 AND the Dodgers at least 18-14 to eliminate the Cubs 18-14, the Giants would have to go at least 24-7 AND the Dodgers at least 20-12 to eliminate the Cubs 20-12, the Giants would have to go at least 26-5 AND the Dodgers at least 22-10 to eliminate the Cubs Remember, the Giants and Dodgers are guaranteed to have at least 5 more combined losses, making it even tougher. Why are you so worried about them that you would take the time to figure all this out? /not serious Did anybody hear JD refer to the Reds elimination number last night as a "tragic number"? I don't think I had heard that term before, but I like it.
  15. Meaning what? There seems to be more people upset now that the Cubs didn't make a move for a pitcher than there were at the deadline. There especially seemed to be more last week when our shot at the division was marginally better. It made even more sense to make a move when the playoff odds were lower. I'm not saying that was my stance. I thought I remembered people being ok with Haren because "at least he's like a real major league pitcher" for a 5th starter. I do remember others saying his peripherals pointed to a big spike in ERA - which has happened. But I know that others were plenty happy we kept hold of all of our prospects. I don't keep track of what each person said at the time. It just seems to me that the board wasn't as overwhelming in the "We should have gotten a better pitcher" camp as they are now. And the reason I've seen people lament in game threads not getting another pitcher is the playoff rotation would be pretty crappy after Arrieta and Lester. Whereas at the deadline people were making the argument that a rental pitcher would be dumb because the Cubs might lose the Wild Card game and this isn't really our year yet - I do not/did not agree with this sentiment.

  17. There seems to be a lot of revisionist history on the feelings at the deadline. Cubs were no lock for even a one-game playoff and division hopes were very slim.
  18. I've been the opposite. The first two pitches I saw Saturday were the two wild pitches/passed balls. Tonight I turned on the radio just before Grimm's first HR.
  19. I'd really like to see 2-3 wins in a row again.
  20. 6 runs all charged to Starlin Castro's glove.
