  1. I've said it here many times. That Wood HR is my single greatest sports memory and I've enjoyed two Super Bowl titles.
  2. The Cardinals are adamant that they are above celebrating anything below a NLDS appearance. You guys, we could be 2-3 weeks away from the moment historians look back on as the turning point between when being a Cubs fan sucked and when it became the greatest thing in the world. I was talking to a Royals fan in his 60s. He's always had a soft spot for the Cubs ever since going to college with Cardinals fans where he developed a deep hatred for them. This is a very intelligent baseball fan that I love having conversations with. He cannot remember a time where you could look at an organization and be so confident that they are going to be so good for so long.
  3. Such a fun season, but from a personal standpoint I was at the first game of four in Milwaukee when Rizzo donged in the 8th. It was my first time seeing KB and Schwarbs in person and Arrieta wore those ridiculous socks. Also went to the Sunday game. Then we surprised my dad with tickets for his 50th birthday (we live 6 hours from Chicago) and went to the whole DBacks series. My uncle from Michigan surprised my dad as well in downtown Chicago on our way to the Saturday game and then we all were in the bleachers for KBs 495-foot dong. I loved the Schwarber game, the Arrieta no-hitter, the Fowler HR in Colorado, Jumbo Diaz giving up a bomb to Soler, the Polanco game, the Bryant walk offs, the Castro walk offs, the whole Giants series and in general the 7-0 against the Mets. The DH sweep of the Cardinals was nice too. And actually the Montero's bases-clearing double in the Peralta game was awesome. Maddon's press conference today. I'm taking my son to Wrigley for the first time against the Pirates. Even though he's only nearly 1 and won't remember that will be a big moment for me.
  4. We could go to bed tomorrow with the second best record in baseball with only 14 left to play
  5. I want to know what Maddon's thought process was for letting La Stella hit. Everything else I'm not going to get too upset about. Haren sucks and did not pitch all that bad today. The offense got tons of runners but got bit by sequencing again.
  6. Don't worry. Cardinals don't celebrate until they clinch a division series spot. "It's not the real playoffs."
  7. And 0 AL teams have been officially eliminated from contention.
  8. Schwarber made two consecutive outs. Lol
  9. Man. Don't like seeing that. Really don't want to see it happen to one of our guys in retaliation.
  10. They play 19 times. There won't be a head-to-head tie. EDIT: well, I guess they could have a rainout and only play 18 times and end up tied and MLB would not make them make it up to determine HFA. But that would again require the Cubs to lose all "3" remaining games against them and somehow catch them. Not happening.
  11. I'm all in favor of limiting pitches for Arrieta, Lester and the good pen guys from here on out. The division is over save us winning the next 4 games in a row and then some more amazing stuff happening.
  12. It's easy to forget the Cubs are 10-5 in September with a 4-2 record against the Cardinals and Pirates because most of the losses have been heartbreaking and "must wins" in terms of getting back into the division race. And it's not like you can say the Cubs put themselves in this situation. The Cardinals and Pirates have been extremely good and the Cardinals have benefited from sequencing in head-to-head games. This team is really good and I love it.
  13. Ok. Montero is really crappy so far tonight.
  14. With the Yankees, Twins, Rangers and Astros this one may actually be slightly more plausible: http://m.mlb.com/news/article/59527184/playoff-tiebreaker-rules
  15. If somebody told me I could play in the majors, but I would have to look like John Lamb I would say no thanks.
  16. Last night's game was great too. Big Fielder HR in the 8th. Side note: I'm hoping for a crazy scenario where the Angels come back and the Angels, Rangers, Astros and Twins all end with the same record and they have to use this tiebreaker:
  17. Some really awful AB today with runners in scoring position except for the first pitch meatball that Fowler hit last AB.
  18. This is a weird random thought, but I've had a feeling for a couple of months now that Russell is going to do something amazing this postseason that makes us all love him forever. Just wanted it to be documented
  19. Shortstops and mashers only please. If you can play shortstop and mash that's good too.
  20. I am all-in on 2 divisions and 4 wild cards with the 4 WC playing 3 games in 2 days all in the higher-seeded teams' parks. I would love the March Madness effect.
