  1. I was much more calm today during a game than I have been in awhile. I think it's all these Royals fans around me freaking out. We almost swept the Cardinals in St Louis without Arrieta pitching. Things change so quickly in baseball. Rizzo could go 0-40 and then hit 3 bombs in the Wild Card game. Same could be said of Schwarber, Bryant or just about anyone else. If the Cubs make a run Hendricks could have a feel for his change up for 3 straight starts and he could roll. I'm done worrying about what COULD happen.
  2. Free runs are fun. Let's get some more runs next inning and win this game
  3. I saw a grammatically incorrect but awesome shirt at Wrigley during the DBacks series. It was a Schwarber shirsey in the style of the road unis that say "CUBS," but instead of "CUBS" on the front it said "ROYS." Wish I could find one online.
  4. Why would anyone be cheering for the Pirates? Because people are really stupid.
  5. If anybody is cheering for the Pirates today...
  6. They clearly aren't going to use Schwarber as a catcher from here on out if they weren't willing to do it there
  7. Found it. Live at Madison Square Garden.
  8. Anybody know which version of My Kind of Town Sinatra uses the line "Chicago Cubbies"?
  9. I can't believe how many people want the Pirates to win. I don't buy into the argument about wanting the Cardinals for 1 game instead of a 5-game series (outside of I really hate the Cardinals and I would rather the fate was decided swiftly so I didn't have to agonize over it so much - but that's a dumb reason). We just dominated them for 3 days without Arrieta pitching. They were very lucky to get the one win they got.
  10. Random thought: have two teams that were playing each other ever clinched on the same day and both partied in the clubhouse afterwards? Unlikely but possible scenarios are the Cubs and Pirates clinching on the same day while playing each other. In the very unlikely department is the Cubs and Royals clinching on the same day while playing each other. If it were two teams clinching spots they're pretty much locked into, and they played each other the next day, you could see some really interesting lineups.
  11. Something else not mentioned yet: None of the throw away seasons would have been potential low-hanging fruit in terms of reaching the playoffs. Record of last team in: 2014 88-74 (NL Central had 90 and 88-win teams) 2013 90-72 (NL Central had 97, 94 and 90-win teams) 2012 88-74 (NL Central had 97 and 88-win teams) Side note: The Cardinals and Pirates have almost already matched their win totals from last season. The Cubs already have. The Pirates and Brewers are fast approaching their loss total from last season. All 5 teams will end with records nowhere near their 2014 records.
  12. Seriously? We get hard hit outs. Leave runners all over the place. They get no good contact all game except for they find a way to bunch all of their good contact into the 1st and the 8th.
  13. Please don't make me look back at this game and say we lost because of sequencing.
  14. Lester is pitching stellar especially considering this minuscule K zone.
  15. Cubs hitting looks great again. Could have even more runs. Constant pressure is a good thing. Hopefully Lester is shutdown from here on out.
  16. And Pujols or Fielder on a monster contract And probably no Arrieta or Strop. And probably very few of all those IFAs that are killing it.
  17. It's absolutely worth it. Even doing a patch job with the supposed restrictions they had I at most see them maybe getting into the playoffs one time in the last 3 seasons. No Bryant. No Schwarber. Most likely no Russell. Maybe stuck with a crappy Samardzija extension.

  19. Um, did you not see that 495 foot bomb on 0-2 Sunday? Why choke up?
  20. I turned the TV on in the top of the 7th. It was left on MLB Network which is carrying the Cardinals broadcast. No joke. It took about 3 seconds to hear something something "they haven't expected to win in a long time." "Yeah, like 107 years!" I couldn't switch it to Len and JD fast enough.
  21. I'd rather see Schwarber in LF, Bryant at 3B, Baez at 2B and Miggy catching.
