  1. I haven’t read all of the ideas, but when it comes to draft order I would prefer the teams are broken into 3 sets of 10. The 10 teams with the BEST records to miss the playoffs get the first 10 picks, then the bottom 10 teams get picks 11-20 and the 10 teams that make the playoffs get 21-30. The team with the best record that missed the playoffs gets pick 1. To make it simple, let’s assume that the 10 teams with the 10 best records all make the playoffs. And make draft picks tradeable. Draft order based on overall place from previous season: #1 11 #2 12 .... #10 20 #11 30 #12 29 ... #20 21 #21 10 #22 9 ... #30 1 I can’t think of a much better incentive to avoid tanking.
  2. Change name to NationalSocialisticBaseball.com
  3. The disputes that make it hard/impossible for fans to watch the games are the worst.
  4. By definition any owner of the Cubs will be a billionaire, so nobody can defend the owners who have made the team as financially strong as they’ve ever been and as successful on the field as they’ve been in literally over a century? And, Harper still hasn’t signed elsewhere yet... You feel the need to "defend" a billionaire for watching the value of his assets increase? You do realize that the Cubs being more financially strong makes the ability to buy players like Bryce Harper more likely to occur on a more consistent basis? The very first post I said they are owners who are also fans and want the team to win. Being financially strong allows them to shorten non-competitive gaps and lengthen competitive windows. If I’m wrong and that’s not what happens over the time they own the team I’ll be just as pissed as you.
  5. So, even if you buy into everything you just said, what more do you want from the owner than what the Ricketts have been? And, again, Harper still hasn’t signed elsewhere. And even if he does sign elsewhere that doesn’t automatically mean the Ricketts are maximizing profits over winning. I’m not trying to say the Ricketts are some knights in shining armor. I’m just saying can we expect more out of an owner than what the Ricketts are?

  7. Don’t feel like turning this into another political thread, but I’m very engaged and pay attention. I just don’t let it affect my whole day every day and can compartmentalize. And, yeah I want Harper. But I also realize there are other teams with deep pockets that want him too. If they don’t sign him we likely won’t even know the specific reason. I just know this. From a baseball and franchise health perspective I’m very glad the Ricketts own this team.
  8. You all need to learn to separate your political views from every single aspect of life, especially the parts that are supposed to be fun. A lot of sucky stuff is going on, but I’ve become a lot happier by not letting it be on the forefront of my mind all day every day. Can’t change anything anyway.
  9. I really don’t understand hating the Ricketts. Like, aren’t we supposed to want the monopoly guy to own our team AND also be a fan who wants the team to win AND is smart enough to hire smart baseball people to be the ones to decide how to spend his money? Not sure what more you could want in an owner to be honest with you.
  10. Did she ever email? Yeah. We setup our first date through email.

  12. The 2016 WS year was so much better than all of the years leading up to and since then. We got lucky.
  13. I would rather get stuck with subpar relievers throwing multiple innings very late in extra innings on the few occasions it occurs, in exchange for the many games of having the better matchups deciding games in regulation.
  14. The original Javy Baez. [bbvideo=560,315] [/bbvideo]
  15. Winning the pennant and winning the World Series are so very nearly tied for me in magnitude/emotion. Winning the World Series just barely edges out winning the pennant.
  16. My brother and I attended Game 6 NLCS. While driving up we discussed what we wanted to happen if we could pick. We didn’t want drama. Just a nice, easy quick lead and shutdown pitching and a giant party counting down the outs with no stress. And then that’s what happened. Best atmosphere game I’ve ever been to. And I’ve been to some really good ones.
  17. being down 2-1 in that series felt way worse because they got shutout in games 2 and 3 We scored 5 runs in game 2 to win. We lost game 4. We won games 5-7 He’s talking about the NLCS.
  18. Yeah, when we weren’t scoring those first few innings of Game 4 I was all doom and gloom.
  19. 3 outs until our magic number is ZERO! When do you think our first playoff game will start? Hopefully we don’t get stuck with the early afternoon slot.
  20. Win the WS. I don’t care. Please just lose a game along the way.
