  1. But all we need is for something similar to the '69 collapse to happen in the opposite direction!
  2. When Miles plays: 23-35 Otherwise: 38-23
  3. Who wants to bet that this doesn't happen? Good thing nobody took that bet.
  4. I came into the season bitter about an atrocious off-season, and surprisingly my bitterness is even worse now. I didn't think that would be possible. Yeah I think most of us hated the offseason. I also think most of us thought we were good enough to get by it. We weren't. I agree. We still would have been fine if ARam was healthy and Soriano hit around .275 or so. Also, that one big guy, #38, should have done his abs work.
  5. I agree with maybe 3 of those. I got about 5-6. It's ridiculous that we don't have a video board anywhere in the stadium. It's 2009, not 1959. The Cubs don't need a Jumbotron to "affect the energy level of the crowd." Cubs fans don't need huge "Get Loud!" signs to tell them when it's an important situation in the game and when the crowd needs to get loud. I found it ridiculous that he mentioned that it helped pump the Dodgers faithful up. Isn't Wrigley pretty wild on its own?

Honestly, a video board wouldn't bother me if it were used for baseball information only. I hate the hat dances, noise-o-meter, etc. I hate that they have that crap on the digital scoreboard under the real scoreboard now. If it takes attention away from the field, then I don't want it. If you're bored between innings sometimes even ABs then go somewhere else.
  7. Baseball: TheRiot FonteYES! Football: Lombardi's Legends Nothing Great.
  8. I just reread a part of the segment in Three Nights in August about the game Prior pitched in that series. I was there in Prior jersey. La Russa thought the Pujols/Prior match-up over their careers would be a great one. Too bad Prior was the one who fizzled out. I wonder where the two organizations would be if it were the other way around.
  9. This season feels like 2005 more than anything else, imo. True. No playoffs like '03, '07. or '08 or end game meltdown like '04 or even the all out horror of '06. Just the basic mediocrity of '05, the difference being the expectations. Except that there was a meltdown, it just came in August instead of September. At the end of the year, I wouldn't be surprised if the Cubs have a better record than the Cardinals minus the last two weeks. More bitter to swallow than '05. In '05 the Cubs were 8.5 back in May and never really came out of that hole. I don't think this season really compares to any of the recent seasons the Cubs have had. This one is different. They just keep finding new ways to lose. I think edit: pitchcs (sorry Outshined) was just pointing out that if it weren't for all the disappointments lately that this would have been even more difficult to swallow. At some point you become numb to it. It's not like they're blowing anything. They never had a division lead larger than 0.5 a game this year. In '07 and '08 they never lead in either NLDS. They're just losing, not blowing anything. It's embarrassing. In 2003 and 2004 they blew it. That was tough but not necessarily embarrassing. I'd rather blow a lead than not show up.
  10. Let's not forget to add fat Soto and Mike Fontenot to the list as well. Because the disparity between 2008 Dero to 2009 Font and 2008 Soto to 2009 Soto is HUGE. Soto has definitely had a bad year, no doubt. But wasn't he injured twice? Plus the whole "pot test" distraction. He's the least of my worries moving forward. I think he'll be better next season. Fontenot was a disappointment, but I think a lot of people thought that might happen (though they certainly hoped it wouldn't.) I remember people suggesting he could have a better year than DeRo. Haha.
  11. At this exact moment, probably Crane Kenney, but he may not have the authority or any good reason to do it. Zell probably holds ultimate authority but he doesn't care what the Cubs do right now. That's what I thought.
  12. Quick question. At this point in the Cubs sale, who is the person who would actually be responsible for firing Hendry?
  13. 7 games back. This team isn't capable of erasing that type of lead. But we were capable of coming back from 6? I think people were praying to somehow pickup a game or two this weekend. 4 games back with games in hand and three against STL isn't so bad. Tonight was an important night because the Dodgers have not been playing well and many felt this is one of the games we had the pitching advantage. Well yeah, but the pitching advantage is erased when your guy only goes 5, in order to get Aaron Miles ABs. I'm am more angry about that than anything else from tonight's game.
  14. I think this team has got to be the most frustrating team I can remember. The potential was there the whole time, it just never happened. In 2004 they won 89 games, that's not bad at all.

  16. It was because Lou wanted Aaron Miles to bat. Stupid on so many levels. 1) Aaron Miles is horrible 2) Gorzolanny has 2 RBIs in 3 starts for the Cubs; Miles has 3 RBIs all season 3) Even if the move did work, Lou was playing for one run (becuase with Miles SLG there was no way the runner at first would have scored), so basically he was trusting his middle relief, which has been shaky all year, to protect a 1 run lead for 4 innings against a pretty good offense. 4) Stupid Lou So to this point Miles is being paid $833,333.33 per RBI? Awesome!
  17. I absolutely hate watching this team play like this and then flipping over to Cardinal blowouts. 2 runs off Weaver?
  18. Len, "The only way Gorzellany can get the win is if Miles comes through here." Didn't sound too confident in that happening...
  19. He reminded me of Lenny in The Butterfly Effect.
  20. Dang! That was his hard-hit ball for the series.
  21. What'd you expect with the great Joel Pineiro on the mound? I'm complaining about how they actually for once aren't doing anything offensively, besides cashing in on the mistakes of one ineffective inning.
