  1. I think a lot of errors by OF are on throws that may actually be right on the money, but hit a runner or the fielder can't handle it because it hits the ground first allowing runners to advance. As mentioned before, Soriano just drops balls.
  2. Fred Clarke, Louisville, 1895 with 49. I'd like to see a "modern" record though.
  3. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090828&content_id=6663260&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb
  4. At this point I'm just going to enjoy each game individually. In a month I won't have any Cubs baseball until March, so I may as well enjoy it while I can.
  5. breach of contract? playing pickup softball is breach of contract? I'd like to hear this. It could easily be. These guys have clauses in their contracts that ban them from participating in all sorts of physical activities. Teams don't generally call them out on it, even if the activity leads to an injury, but it's in there. softball? Sure, I've read some things about the various clauses in the standard MLBPA contract, but I've never seen anything that would suggest that pickup softball isn't allowed. I seem to remember somebody having a clause in their contract that they couldn't play basketball. Does anybody else remember this?
  6. The Nationals have an 8-game win streak in August. The Cubs have 9 wins in August.
  7. And now the Rockies are losing. Seriously, one good stretch at home against these bad teams and they could have been 3-5 out of the WC at the end of the homestand. I don't see how they can be so bad for so long.
  8. If Bradley hits a walkoff what kind of antics are we going to see both on the field and in the clubhouse?
  9. Oh, we lost. Aaron Miles has a bat in his hand and is smiling.
  10. I'm eyeing being only 6.5 games behind Colorado after today! Go Cubs!
  11. I wish it was 2006 or 2007 so the Cubs would still be in the race at 63-61.
  12. I have changed my fantasy football team name to Johnny Jolly Rodgers. I combined the Packers defensive player Johnny Jolly with Aaron Rodgers' last name. Nothing great, but I'm proud of it.
  13. It's a lot. He has plus speed and is sporting a 50/15 SB/CS line in Daytona (and a 61/17 line overall). He needs to work on the CS numbers, but he could find his way onto a bench as a 4th or 5th OF/pinch runner type of guy. Thanks. Where were his first 11/2? Boise?
  14. I think citing that he only has 34 RBI to this point is valid only because the number is SO low. Granted it would be higher if the guys in front of him were getting on base, so lets say he has 50 RBI instead. That's still disappointing. However, comparing players to each other based on the number of RBI they have produced is not a good argument.
  15. Don't know as much about the minor league system as I would like, but I see Campana has 50 SB. Is this a lot in A or are there a lot of SB because the pitchers and catchers aren't as polished?
  16. This is correct. If a guy debuts with the team with the kind of april and may bradley had, said player would never get out of the fans doghouse even if he posted Pujolian numbers the rest of the year. Wrong.
  17. Nothing like using batting average and RBI's to prove your point on how worthless a player is. I have to say that when the numbers are that low (34 RBI is real low for his position), they do help prove a point. It's not like he's comparing two players and trying to say one is better because he had a BA of 5 points higher and 10 more RBI.
  18. Yeah but Jones was also a much more frustrating player, with his constant throws into the dirt, soriano-esque at-bats, and baserunning blunders. He seemed like a likeable guy, but not a likeable players. Burnitz kind of just sucked and was there. plus, most of his boos came in 2007, when he was really crappy and well below expectations. He was booed loudly in his third home game with the Cubs in 2006. A reason for a lack of boos in 2006 was general apathy due to the pathetic season. I don't know, I usually hate people who say crap like this but I think there's enough evidence out there that we can't outright dismiss the race issue. Note, I didn't say there is a race issue, but that it cannot be eliminated. BTW, for a good white player booing example, one can always fall back on Todd Hundley Lots of fans boo Bradley because: 1. They see him out there instead of DeRosa (the rebuilding plan this offseason was based around Bradley being left-handed). 2. He makes a lot more than DeRosa. 3. He is hitting below .260 with 11 HR and 34 RBI. (Most of them don't pay attention to OBP or OPS). 4. He sometimes makes horrible mental gaffs. 5. Whether times are good or bad he gets baited into saying something about the fans, never giving them a chance to back him. 6. The Cubs had sky-high expectations but are now struggling to stay above .500. 7. DeRosa and the Cardinals are waltzing to a division title. His race has nothing to do with it. Sure there will be some idiots that say things, but the fans aren't booing him because he is black. Bradley is easy to dislike. Even if you like him you must admit that. Bradley is the player that the whole offseason plan of "getting more left-handed" was based upon. Last year the team won 97 games. This year they will not win 90. It's easy to say, "Milton is the problem. His signing made moves like Aaron Miles happen. We lost a clubhouse leader (DeRosa) and gained a clubhouse cancer (Bradley)."
  19. Impossible. He has what, 35 RBI? Come on. Fixed.
