  1. Can anybody give me an example of Hendry making a "sellers" deadline move that actually panned out? It seems like his "best" move was Maddux for Izturis. EDIT: I guess the Lilly/Theriot/DeWiit trade was probably better.
  2. I'm giving this thing time. I'd much rather be bad for a few years if it meant we are nearly always contending. I think I am more nervous about what our payroll will look like. Under Ricketts it keeps shrinking. I'm fine with that while we're throwing seasons away, but it better be a top 5 payroll again when it's time to contend.
  3. That reminds me of a shot of the LF bleachers at Wrigley when Wood hit the HR in Game 7 of the NLCS.
  4. Nothing to add here. Just asking the board's opinions. Obviously it depends on what other moves we see, but generally if Garza gets dealt this winter what do you guys believe would be the first year the Cubs would actually contend? You have to have some starting pitching before you start adding to your starting rotation so it becomes a contending rotation. I feel like we're talking about 2015 at the earliest. Am I way off?
  5. I've gone to 17 Royals games this year. Sanchez is not only terrible, but he doesn't seem to even care what's going on. George Brett is a constant "Rah! Rah!" guy for the Royals and always defends the players during his weekly spot on the local radio station. Even he bashes Sanchez and says the guy doesn't care what goes on. EDIT: Irrelevant, but he does this annoying thing when he's removed from a game where he kicks dirt across the foul line as he walks off the field.
  6. What about Soriano's 2nd HR on 6/8? That one went into the upper deck at Minnesota. It says 418 on hit tracker, but there is no way. That ball was a bomb.
  7. They must not have shown it on TV, but Castro was so pissed last night. He was pacing in the dugout beginning in the 5th inning while everyone else was on the dugout steps. He ripped his hat off for God Bless America, and was glaring in Tony's direction often. He was visibly upset when Furcal took his last AB. Also, Furcal seemed to be surprised and he took the field late in both the 6th and 7th and before his final AB, like he assumed his day was over.
  8. I was going to see him, but he was there too late in the day since we were going to the HR Derby early.
  9. Would be going to Omaha to see Iowa but going to the Futures Game instead! All three Royals players and Jae-Hoon Ha are starting!
  10. Cashner just got hurt warming up between innings and was removed from the game.
  11. Nothing new hear, but a video on Prior's chances to return. http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/red-sox/post/_/id/20131/video-priors-battle-to-join-sox
  12. Maybe I am naive, but it seems to me that if you had $50MM and you wanted to invest some money, why not keep back enough that you know you will always be fat and happy?
  13. that's awesome...was it hard to get tickets to each of the events? I really want to go to an All Star game at some point in my life, although I hear it's rather boring. I live 3 minutes from Kauffman Stadium and am a season ticket holder. I have 16 tickets to the Futures Game and 8 to everything else because my wife and I have large families and everybody wanted to go. The whole deal cost us about $4500. Half of our seats are real nice though. 11th row and a little past first base. The other half are decent infield upper deck seats. You can buy Futures Game tickets on StubHub for $8. I hear some people say it's one of the best things a father and son could do. My dad and 2 of my brothers are sitting in our good seats for the actual ASG. I'm really excited.
  14. I am going to all the ASG events this year. I'm pretty excited about the Futures Game. Was hoping to see more Cubs, but it should still be awesome.
  15. I saw him pitch in ST last year for the Yankees and was way too excited. Really hope this works out for him.
  16. That's a very interesting point. It wouldn't surprise me to find out that this is kind of like throwing stuff up against the wall and seeing what sticks, in their way of trying to find whatever the new "market inefficiency' is. Dayton Moore (Royals GM) said in a recent radio interview that they target guys who have recently started pitching for wear and tear reasons. He basically said HS and college coaches don't have a clue what they're doing.
  17. Buster Olney thinks Greinke might get only a 4/64 or 5/75 type of deal "unless there's one crazy GM out there." I would take the under too.
  18. They're behind due to a Wil Myers HR. He will be in KC later this year.
  19. Rizzo hit another over the wall, but it bounced first. Ground-rule double. This one off the lefty Teaford who's on the Omaha/KC shuttle.
  20. I'm in Omaha tonight. Sure wish the Iowa game was here.
  21. Rizzo just hit another one off the scoreboard. He looks bored.
  22. Rizzo just hit another one off the scoreboard. He looks bored.
  23. At the Iowa Cubs game. Wind is blowing hard to left-center. However, only Rizzo's solo shot was wind-aided. Jackson and Apocada's HR were no-doubters. 11-1 after 4. Also, Corey Patterson still sucks at hitting left-handed pitchers. Edit: Rizzo's single in the first hit the wall on the fly but bounced right back to the RF. it was hit on a line. Vitters has made two good defensive plays.
  24. What was Bud doing while Sabathia was announcing the pick?
