Every team he's coached has had a fabulous defensive reputation. Yes, most of those teams have included Hummel, Johnson, and Moore. However, guys like Byrd, Barlow, Jackson, and even Smith have shown great defensive prowess. I know your argument is that Painter has ridden Hummel, Johnson, and Moore to success. Given the production he's gotten out of his lesser players, I would say he's an above average coach at least. I'm not quite sure what leads you to believe otherwise.

You don't care about how many hits and walks they're giving up? Really? Not his hits, really. How are hits completely inconsequential? Sure, the fielders are worse, and the fields are also worse... but so are the hitters. Last year, McNutt gave up less hits in 13 more innings pitched compared to Miller. He also did that while spending half of his time between A+ and AA. You're telling me that means absolutely nothing to you?

If Hummel comes back close you will be ok next year. After that tho it could be rough a bit. They have one 4 star prospect this year in Terone Johnson, one coming in 2012 in Raphael Davis, one coming in 2013 in Bryson Scott, and three fringe 4 star players over that span too (Jacob Lawson, Jay Simpson, Basil Smotherman). Granted, it's nothing like Indiana's and Illinois' most recent commitments, but I think it will be enough to pair with what they have already to be competitive. 2011 Travis Carroll Robbie Hummel DJ Byrd Ryne Smith Lewis Jackson 2012 Travis Carroll Jacob Lawson DJ Byrd Raphael Davis Kelsey Barlow 2013 Travis Carroll Jay Simpson Raphael Davis Terone Johnson Bryson Scott The one thing that needs to hold up in all of this is Travis Carroll. He was recruited as a 3 star prospect last year, but he lost weight before arriving and has contributed solid minutes as a freshman. I think he's up to task of running the 5 for a couple of years for Purdue.

We haven't won two games in a row since january. Won't happen here. I knew this was going to happen. It's historically about time for the big Purdue let down. I'm sure we'll see plenty of Illini fans teeing off on the Purdue fans after this game. :banghead: why did you say this? Because Purdue was down 13 and all the momentum was with Illinois. Blue and orange jerseys were running circles around gold and black ones, the Illini were sinking every shot, and Purdue simply wasn't rebounding. It felt like a loss. I'm happy it wasn't.

That's laughable. Forget the Chris Kramer era? If so D.J. Byrd serves as a pretty good reminder. Wrong white guy. Byrd has taken a few charges this game, but Smith is the flopper.

Both teams getting lucky with sinking shots. Illinois running a better offense. Purdue needs to get Johnson working down low. Moore has looked rough in the lane too, which is surprising.

I'm extremely nervous about tonight's game. I don't know what the line is, but I would take Illinois I'm sure. The Illini are going to be hungry for a big time resume builder. It's going to be close.

Is the gif broken? All I see is Boozer turning around and Bosh getting tapped slightly. Then is quickly flashes another scene I can't see and then back to Boozer turning again. Thank God...I thought I was missing something, but that's exactly what I see. the part in the middle is a sniper taking a shot It's either working again, or my home PC likes to show gifs that my work PC doesn't.

I think part of it was Noah being in foul trouble, but Asik was razor sharp on the defensive side last night. In the third quarter, it was obvious that Thibs was chosing Asik over Noah. Noah did get back in at the end of the fourth, but to me it was pretty clear that Thibodeau was riding Asik till they got a decent lead. I'm pretty sure the only reason Asik didn't go back in was because Miami went small to try and make their comeback. Noah just doesn't seem to have his game together quite yet. He was -11 for the game, and if I were to guess I would have guessed even worse than that based on how the Heat was scoring while he was in for the first half.

Dude... if he's in AA this year, I'm going to see him. I don't care if it's in Little Rock/Springdale/Tulsa... It's why I'm pumped about living in Fayetteville now (used to live in NW Indiana and closest minor league was like Indianapolis Indians- which is like 100 miles away so I didn't get to go often- I think Gary, Indiana or somewhere up there has either a minor league team or indy team). I'll be going to the Naturals (Royals AA team) games quite a bit this year and get to see other big time prospects in the Texas League. The Railcats are indy. South Bend has a Diamondbacks affiliate, Fort Wayne has a Padres affiliate, and of course Peoria isn't too far way if you make a day of it and go watch the Chiefs.

except for the time leading up to James running into him He never was set. except for when he got hit No he moved the whole time. He was backing up the whole time and never got completely set. Watch it again if you can. I agree with Careless. It was a no call at worst.

They will absolutely dominate the 2004 Eastern Conference playoffs. That's still better front court depth than any team besides Chicago in the East. It really is confusing that they went for that Perkins trade though.

You do know that Boston traded away all of their frontcourt depth, right? Well, I do now that I heard about the Perkins trade. Even better for the Bulls, although they still have Garnett, Shaq, Big Baby, Green, Krstic, and Jermaine O'Neal will be back for the playoffs.

I'm confident if there was a deal on the table for a good SG and Asik was the only player going the other way, I think a deal would have been made. I don't think that was the case today.

If you haven't noticed at this point in the season, the most recent trend has quality height as a premium. The teams with depth at the 4 and 5 (Boston, Los Angeles, the Bulls) have found consistency. The fact that those teams will be able to wear down the front court of other teams in the playoffs will prove to be invaluable. I don't think adding Courtney Lee automatically makes the Bulls better than Boston or Miami. I think they're very capable of winning with or without Lee, but not favorites against them. The one thing they have on Miami is depth in the front court. The Bulls are also the only team in the East that can match up with Boston's depth.

Ironically, Miller has the results and the name. I don't know about that. While Miller had the edge in Ks/9 (12.1 to 10.2) and BBs/9 (2.8 to 2.9), but McNutt had the better overall WHIP (1.12 to 1.25). I know there's already been the argument that Miller is more likely to give up hits because of the defense behind him, but if you cut him slack there than you have to credit McNutt for the more difficult hitters he had to face. I guess it comes down to which you would rather have: A 20 year old with 1.12 WHIP and 10.2 K/9 while splitting time between A/+A/AA Or a 19 year old with a 1.25 WHIP and 12.1 K/9 while at A I'm personally more impressed with McNutt's numbers. It's obvious Miller's pedigree and numbers ranked higher with BA.

And let me just say, I'm not getting bent out of shape here. They're rankings, they ultimately mean nothing. I just think some opinions from BA and other well respected publications can and should be challenged. Anyway, as much as I'm going to question the Miller ranking, I'd be very interested to see any chat snippets on the top 100. Anyone?

I get age relative to league. Look at a guy that ranked behind him though in John Lamb. Lamb had better numbers across the board compared to Miller outside of Ks/9 and he did it at three different levels peaking at AA as a 19 y/o. And he's a lefty. How do you justify ranking Miller ahead of him? I understand it's not just that simple, but if you're going to give the justification that Miller deserves the ranking because of his age relative to league, how can you argue that he's more worthy of that 13th spot than John Lamb?

With a legitimate post player, I think IU could be a much better team. I've been impressed with Oladipo and Sheehey, and Watford/Jones/Hulls/Creek are all solid players. Adding Zeller to the mix could make them a tourney team next year IMO.
