  1. I agree with the disdain on pretty much any O's package outside of the very unrealistic ones involving one of Bundy/Machado. Taking formerly high ranked prospects who failed is a strategy you use for someone of Dempster's value, not Garza's. With that said, if they offered up Britton and one of Arrieta/Matusz with a couple other specs then I'd be at least somewhat intrigued.
  2. How big is Torreyes, and how big is he expected to get? What position do most see him ending up at (I know he's only 19 and it's still a guessing game at this point)? Torreyes is a little guy, 5-9 at the most. He's a 2B now and a 2B he will stay. This reminds me, have we heard anything about Torreyes' defense this year? I know he was touted as a very good gold glove caliber defender going into this year.
  3. I think this has disaster written all over it. Nearly 150% of what Soler got and I haven't heard anyone say his ceiling is even close. Of course then again I've seen Puig scouting reports that contradict each other all over the place. Some where he has plus plus power, some where he's just a so so talent, some where he's the fastest player in Cuban baseball.
  4. I'm on the KC bandwagon; Odorizzi, Montgomery, Cuthbert sounds great to me.
  5. 2 errors, the fall going around 3rd and the dropped foul ball. It doesn't get a lot worse than that.
  6. Good lord Lahair, that ball bounced two feet in front of the plate.
  7. Jesus Len, this is starting to get Easterling type creepy.
  8. If Bronson Arroyo no hits a team, then I'm convinced something needs to be done. Of course I thought the same thing after Humber's perfect game. He has to be amongst the worst pitchers to ever toss one.
  9. I like my gag posts shorter and more to the point.
  10. Same thing every time lately; Garza is just way to easy to rattle.
  11. Wasn't Miller just recently put on a no shake rule? Isn't that a bit odd for a guy in AAA? I'm not sure I'm interested in him headlining a package.
  12. I don't think Lake is out of the question either.
  13. let the hype begin. Begin? I think there were a lot of us who were considering putting him top 10 last year. Of course that was more an indictment of the farm and a guy who had plate discipline in farm filled with free swingers. I stand by yesterday's comment, as far as position prospects go the Cub's farm can compete with any other team. i'm just talking national hype. He was in or around most of our top 10 lists already. Maybe I'm wrong, but if he has a good year I don't think it would be completely unrealistic to see him sneak into the top 100 or at least honorable mention. I know short season ball stats are usually taken with a grain of salt, but he's already getting a bit of national notoriety.

  15. I hate when that happens. You meet someone who is a Cubs fan while living far from Chicago and are initially excited to have another Cubs fan to talk to. Then you find out he's a meatball who has no idea what's happening on a week to week basis but still loves talking Cubs. Now everytime you run into him he's excited to bring up the Cubs and talk about how mad he is that Tony Campana isn't playing everyday. Eventually you try to avoid the dude whenever possible because it's more annoying than it should be to engage in conversation with the meatball. It's similar when I'm around my best friend's parents. They talk about how great Campana is, how lazy Starlin is, how the Cubs would be a .500 team under Sandberg etc. I want to lay into them and go on an half hour long rant but I can't so I just grin and nod while fighting off the impending aneurysm, all the while dying a little inside.
  16. Maybe I'm being a homer, but based solely on the farm's positions players I'd have to think the farm could compete with almost any other in the game. The pitching is still god awful, but at least they're half way there.
  17. I would be pretty upset if they couldn't sign Underwood; for me he's the second biggest priority behind Almora.
  18. Even some of the "educated" baseball fans are completely clueless. I've seen a Headley for Tillman/Schoop post today where half the people think that's too much and another post where Garza+Soriano nets the Cubs Tillman and Avery. Terrible, just terrible.
  19. Jesus montero, Taijuan walker, Nick franklin and Danny Hultzen. That sounds pretty good to me. Completely unrealisitc, but still pretty nice.
  20. i think the balls are made of rubber or something, in that video it keeps bouncing like they're playing on the moon Yeah, I hadn't really noticed that. After I looked again, the singles were landing and bouncing head high. That's certainly a bit odd.
  21. I'm not overly impressed by the video or scouting reports either; time to put the faith in Theo and see how everything sorts out.
  22. The swing was a bit strange and there didn't seem to be a ton of bat speed yet the ball seemed carried really well off his bat. I was most impressed with his arm on that double play.
