  1. Which if true might make him better than some of those "better options waiting in the minors". This is especially true when you consider the Cubs' record on developing position players. Right now, I imagine Ryan Flaherty could top Darwin Barney and his post-April .600 OPS. I'm hoping he's our opening day 2B next year.
  2. http://sports.espn.go.com/dallas/mlb/news/story?id=6747510 That is about as horrible a thing as I can imagine. Hamilton thinks he's doing something nice and an overzealous dad ends up falling 20 feet and receiving injuries that ultimately kill him, all in front of his son. There's going to be a lot of people messed up by all of this.
  3. That is quite frankly the most terrible article I've ever read. I thought your quotes were made up satire. Why is it so damn hard to find a sports writer who has even the faintest clue what the hell they're taking about? Thank god for Bruce, just about the only one I can read without wanting slam my face on my desk. edit: I am amazed that Carlos has been able to restrain himself from punching some of these [expletive] idiots in the face the way they vilify him.
  4. Golden makes me happy. I love me some prospects that show plate discipline early on.
  5. even if your sarcasm detector is completely broken, it's safe to assume that an NSBB moderator is not going to be a meatball who thinks that aramis is lazy and zambrano is one of those fiery latins. That's sarcasm, right? I know Tim is about as Pro-Cub as I am but I'm pretty sure that he wouldn't hold that kind of standard to be a moderator. "I'm sorry, you think Ramirez is lazy? You're fired." Regardless, I would have had to have opened Laura's profile to even know that she is a moderator. I don't even open my own profile. Hey, maybe I'm a mod! If you have a problem with my "lack of a sarcasm detector" PM me. Or create a new thread "Why Does Scotti Suck So Much?" Hint, mods have green names.
  6. Much better defense. Yeah, but at least Theriot used to know how to take a walk.
  7. Up to an .833 OPS which is the 4th highest amongst all 3B in baseball and the highest amongst all NL 3B(Headley .796). His WAR is also up to 2.1. Unfortunate timing on Aram's part. If he had gotten hot a week or two earlier he'd have been a lock for a spot.
  8. I'll pass, go all in during 2013 FA on one of Cain/Hamel/Weaver and one of Kemp/Ethier/Upton/Hamilton/Victorino, with Kemp being the obvious and unlikely preference.
  9. Law has some ridiculous hate for Szczur and I have no idea why. 21BB 26SO, yeah real limited feel for the zone. I hate those guys who walk almost as much as they strike out. Juan Pierre= 3362 at bats to hit 5 HR Szczur= 265 at bats to hit 5 HR Szczur's current SLG is more than .030 points higher than Pierre has had during any year in his career.
  10. At least on this site there were very few people who thought he signed for too much. There might have been a handful of people saying he signed for too much, while most of the complaints were over the deal being too long (wanted 2 not 3 years) and him not being an impact player (true). There were very, very few complaints about the money in the deal. I was gonna say the same thing. Byrd was a good bargain and the signing made sense at the time considering the other options. In a couple years when Wood retires, I'm sure you'll find a couple idiots saying things like, "He's overpaid!" and "We should have never brought him back!" but that's because you can find at least a couple people that think chickens give live birth. I made the mistake of getting into a discussion with a random fan today, and I'd forgotten how awful it can be. Apparently: Garza is a No. 4/5 pitcher because he saw him in Minnesota his rookie year and he was awful. The Cubs should trade Soriano for picks Ramirez is only good in contract years. And that is why I love this site. It is unbelievably hard to find a well informed fan. Whenever I talk to friends it's always Darwin Barney is awesome, Aramis is lazy and I hope we give away that head case Zambrano. It's more than slightly irritating.
  11. If they had included Stanton and Ichiro I bet the ratings would be significantly higher. I know I would have made sure that I was home to watch.
  12. This. After watching him hit that ball down the line a week or two ago, I need to see him in the home run contest. It might have been foul, but that ball was just absolutely mashed. The guy is capable of putting up multiple 500+ ft bombs.
  13. He's not a full time 3B, so I'm not sure how they'd handle that. He plays 2B and OF as well. Regardless, I don't see how Roberts has been better. He has stolen 12 bases, but Aramis leads him in AVG, OBP, OPS, SLG etc etc. Polanco on the other hand has a .681 OPS and 3 steals. He OPSed .583 in May and .545 in June. He's been absolutely terrible outside of April. Unless he's the second coming of Brooks Robinson he has no business in the all star game. The only one who has any claim in my eyes is Headley.
  14. Yeah that hurts him in the fan vote, but what about the coach's pick? Polanco has been god awful since April.
  15. The guy's numbers are clearly superior to both Polanco's and Chipper's. The only person who has a case against him is Headley. How does he not even sniff a spot for the vote in?
  16. Hendry's best trait is his ability to get back talent in trades. Let him do that and then cut him in the off season. Besides, unless your next GM is sitting around jobless at the moment then what's the point of firing Hendry now? Wait until the off season when that candidate is available then make the move.
  17. Quade leaving another pitcher in too long? Impossible.....
  18. Castro wont stick at SS or hit .300 this year right Stone? Good call.
  19. ...jesus christ, if that's how much range Barney is going to have then feel free to sit him. That was just sad.
  20. Campana provides nothing to this team other than as a pinch runner. Time to go back and rot in Iowa.
  21. Way to completely [expletive] the sheet this inning slappy mcgrit. God I hate him.
  22. inexplicably the Giants don't bunt....
  23. Nice play Campana. Instead of a guy on first, now there's a guy on second and a bunt puts them in position to tie it with a sac fly. He wasn't even close to making that play....
  24. Time to go AAA dumpster diving for another former major league starter. Hopefully Davis is quickly released following this game.
