  1. Same thing every time lately; Garza is just way to easy to rattle.
  2. Wasn't Miller just recently put on a no shake rule? Isn't that a bit odd for a guy in AAA? I'm not sure I'm interested in him headlining a package.
  3. I don't think Lake is out of the question either.
  4. let the hype begin. Begin? I think there were a lot of us who were considering putting him top 10 last year. Of course that was more an indictment of the farm and a guy who had plate discipline in farm filled with free swingers. I stand by yesterday's comment, as far as position prospects go the Cub's farm can compete with any other team. i'm just talking national hype. He was in or around most of our top 10 lists already. Maybe I'm wrong, but if he has a good year I don't think it would be completely unrealistic to see him sneak into the top 100 or at least honorable mention. I know short season ball stats are usually taken with a grain of salt, but he's already getting a bit of national notoriety.

  6. I hate when that happens. You meet someone who is a Cubs fan while living far from Chicago and are initially excited to have another Cubs fan to talk to. Then you find out he's a meatball who has no idea what's happening on a week to week basis but still loves talking Cubs. Now everytime you run into him he's excited to bring up the Cubs and talk about how mad he is that Tony Campana isn't playing everyday. Eventually you try to avoid the dude whenever possible because it's more annoying than it should be to engage in conversation with the meatball. It's similar when I'm around my best friend's parents. They talk about how great Campana is, how lazy Starlin is, how the Cubs would be a .500 team under Sandberg etc. I want to lay into them and go on an half hour long rant but I can't so I just grin and nod while fighting off the impending aneurysm, all the while dying a little inside.
  7. Maybe I'm being a homer, but based solely on the farm's positions players I'd have to think the farm could compete with almost any other in the game. The pitching is still god awful, but at least they're half way there.
  8. I would be pretty upset if they couldn't sign Underwood; for me he's the second biggest priority behind Almora.
  9. Even some of the "educated" baseball fans are completely clueless. I've seen a Headley for Tillman/Schoop post today where half the people think that's too much and another post where Garza+Soriano nets the Cubs Tillman and Avery. Terrible, just terrible.
  10. Jesus montero, Taijuan walker, Nick franklin and Danny Hultzen. That sounds pretty good to me. Completely unrealisitc, but still pretty nice.
  11. i think the balls are made of rubber or something, in that video it keeps bouncing like they're playing on the moon Yeah, I hadn't really noticed that. After I looked again, the singles were landing and bouncing head high. That's certainly a bit odd.
  12. I'm not overly impressed by the video or scouting reports either; time to put the faith in Theo and see how everything sorts out.
  13. The swing was a bit strange and there didn't seem to be a ton of bat speed yet the ball seemed carried really well off his bat. I was most impressed with his arm on that double play.
  14. Pretty sure Law's midseason update had him as a top 25 prospect. Only way you land that is a Garza deal.
  15. Dickey is just completely unstoppable. 18 IP 2H 23K 0ER his last two starts.
  16. Ugh, the guy with the really weak attempts at heckling throughout this game. "Barney you're a little purple dinosaur". Heckling that isn't funny is just annoying.
  17. I'm sure if the speculated scenario is real then he is on it. If the Cubs DLeda guy who wasn't hurt they'd be breaking rules.
  18. So his new team misses out on two of his starts, and the Cubs get an extra roster spot to use for a few days that they wouldn't have had otherwise. What's in it for his new team? You think the Cubs safeguarding themselves by putting Demp on the DL is going to cause the Dodgers to void the deal? I really doubt him missing one extra start and pushing the his first back a couple days is going to be a huge deal. I mean if you figure the secondary things take a day or two to figure out, then you have all the physicals he's really only going to be on the DL for like 7 or 8 days after he's traded.
  19. Firstly, the DL would be retroactive so he wouldn't miss 3 starts. Secondly, DLing him opens up a roster spot while the trade is being ironed out. Lastly, working on the money or secondary parts may take a few days still. Maybe I'm wrong, but this is a lot of smoke.
  20. I'm with Kaplan, I think this deal is almost done and they're just discussing how much money the Cubs will have to cover to get the second prospect they want.
  21. There's too much smoke here. My guess is they're really close and just working on secondary pieces.
  22. I'm not sure that I believe that he's really hurt. Is it possible this is more just keeping him safe until the trade goes through? Seems odd that he's completely fine after his start and hanging out with his friends now he's incapable of pitching.
  23. turner's k/9 tell me that he'll never be top of the rotation. i mean, doesn't a serious ace-prospect have to be at least over 9 at every level? i mean, that's a minimum requirement. if you can't strike guys out, you can't dominate. if you can't dominate, you're back-end. 42IP 27K 19BB. Admittedly that's a small sample size but with the recent arm troubles, I'll stand by my opinion.
  24. I think Castellanos/Turner +another piece is a must if we deal with the Tigers. Maybe I'm down more than others on Turner, but I just don't see the guy who is supposed to be a top of the rotation starter. There is absolutely no way I'd ever let him headline a deal for Garza. To be fair, Teheran is another guy where I just don't see this supposed elite ace type stuff so maybe I'm just wrong.
