  1. I think we'll look back on this in 2 or 3 years and be fine with this deal. The most disappointing aspect is that it looks like they're going long term rebuild so we can expect 3 or 4 years of really bad baseball. I was hoping for a 1 year retool and back to decent in 2022.
  2. And he was on pace for a 4.2fwar season while not being a FA until 2026. Remember that Darvish is 34.
  3. I think that's accurare but replace Morejon with Hassell/Head and frankly we should be pretty happy with that return.
  4. Yeah I'm all in on San Diego and Toronto this year now that we're returning to the time where I pay more attention to the Cub prospects than the mlb squad.
  5. If the other 2 beyond cronenworth and campusano are any good, it's a nice haul
  6. If Campusano is indeed one of the guys involved, Cubs would unquestionably have the best crop of catching prospects.
  7. Swap one of Head or Hassell for Wilcox? Or is he way down now Wilcox was traded in Snell deal
  8. Unfortunate a pitcher basically has to be in the deal because I'd love Cronenworth, head and hassell
  9. Gore is 100% off the table, same with Abrams unless Contreras is involved too. Still, you could get a really nice package involving any of cronenworth, head, weathers, cantillo, etc. I wouldn't mind a chance to get any of morejon, lucchesi or strahm in the lab either.
  10. Zunino is a great guy to work with Mejia and try to get his defense passable. I still feel confident he'll hit.
  11. That's because he isn't very good. Since May 15th of 2019 covering 669PA, he has put up an .807 OPS good for a 107 wRC+. Outside of the crazy start to 2019 he has never been good. Meh, name a player and I can find the reasons not to get that guy. For the price they just paid I'd rather focus on him being a giant, cheap athletic switch hitter in his 20s with a high Iso offense at a position the league isn't really stacked at with starters. It's hard not see this as at least a potential coup for the Nats, in many ways the kind of trade I'd like to see the Cubs make On the other end, the Pirates are hoping Wil Crowe can replace Trevor Williams so they don't have to spend too much money while trying to lose So you like the 28 year old who is a FA in 2 years and accumulated 2.1fwar over the last 2 seasons (836 PA), but you don't like the 23 year old Arraez who has 5 years of control and put up 2.8fwar in the last 2 seasons (487 PA)?

  13. So the answer to fixing a team that couldn't hit last year, is getting rid of Schwarber, who could hit outside of 2020, and bringing in a guy whose last 3 year's wRC+ was 89,90 and 90 before 118 in a 53 game 2020 fueled by a .353babip. The only thing I see that potentially makes me think that 2020 was legit was that he drastically cut down on pulling the ball and went up the middle significantly more. The BB%, K%, ISO were all pretty normal for him and his batted ball profile had a slight increase in GB% and decrease in FB%. I just don't see it.
  14. Every time there is an expansion team or a rebranded one, I think about when I was a kid and the Rockies, Marlins and San Jose Sharks were all brand new. Just about every kid wanted one of those old Starter jacket pullovers with those big logos on the back of them. I think I still probably have my San Jose Sharks one laying around somewhere or it's in my parent's house.
  15. I'm fully prepared for them to do mostly nothing, throwing minor amounts of money at roster hole bandaids and hoping they can 85 win their way into the playoffs before letting Rizzo,Bryant and Baez walk for nothing.
  16. Ok Angels, time for you to go after Willson. Brandon Marsh +Detmers for Willson and someone in the 15 to 20 range. I know my takes on players are grating but alas: What are the chances the Angels move those players? Detmers is their recent first rounder at a position they've had trouble filling for Trout's entire career, Marsh is the ultra cheap LHH OFer in a mix of OFs that is otherwise RHH dominant group (Trout, Upton, Adell, Ward). I suppose it's possible if they have interest in Schwarber, the best LHH OF FA, but then they've got a 30-31 YO Trout surrounded by two former catchers turned OFers (Schwarber and Ward) and a 34 YO Upton Give me Taylor Ward (.323/.432/.568 hitter in AAA, 21% K rate), Jordyn Adams CF (IMO their best OF prospect and one of the best in the minors anyway), and if they're giving away pitching Patrick Sandoval Where is Marsh going go play? Trout and Adell aren't going anywhere and Upton is under contract for 2 more years. They could put Upton at DH if Pujols/Ohtani weren't filling it full time.
  17. Ok Angels, time for you to go after Willson. Brandon Marsh +Detmers for Willson and someone in the 15 to 20 range.
  18. Dunning is a 26 year old who if everything goes right is a BOR starter. I disagree, there's #3 upside with #4 being the most likely scenario. You're greatly underselling a guy who was a top 100 arm until Tommy John.
  19. Lynn is a FA after this year. If Lynn gets Dunning it's time to dangle Hendricks and Darvish.
  20. I don't really get this for the wsox. They give up 6 years of Dunning for a guy who isn't going to be a huge upgrade as his 2019 l ooks like an outlier.
  21. You're not getting Robles straight up let alone with Cate and Denaburg. Rutledge and Romero is probably as good as you can hope for. As far as Contreras goes, I still think I'd love Brujan and McClanahan from TB.
  22. I've stated before that I'm finding myself caring less about the Cubs now then I have at any point in my adult life. I think this is the tipping point where I just don't really care anymore. The owner is a piece of horsefeathers, my favorite Cub announcer of my lifetime is gone, the team completely botched starting the rebuild at an appropriate time so now we're looking at a handful of years of mediocre to bad baseball. Schwarber is gone, kb and rizzo likely gone after this year. Sigh.
  23. What’s the appeal? He doesn’t really walk, doesn’t hit for power (and he’s played in coors), doesn’t make contact, defense metrics don’t like him. Outside of last year, he has always hit 113,110,110 wRC+ his previous 3 seasons. He'd be a solid defensive COF with the ability to fill in a CF when needed. His walk rate should be somewhere between 6.5 to 7% which isn't much below mlb average at roughly 8%. I see him as an .825ish ops guy with 20ish bombs. Not a stud but certainly an everyday quality player.
  24. David Dahl needs to become a Cub immediately.
