  1. Looks exactly like last year so far.
  2. Thankfully Lance sucks too
  3. This is feeling real familiar. The defense protecting everything within 10 yards and saying beat us long if you can.
  4. Fields looks like hot garbage so far
  5. Admittedly, I've spent very little time following baseball this season so I hadn't realized that the Dodgers are on pace to win 114 games. The Padres, who are 13 games over .500, are 19.5 games back in the division.
  6. I could look very dumb about this, but I think we could see Willson's market fail to materialize. It only takes one team to fall in love or have money burn a hole in their pocket, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if he doesn't beat Grandal(4/73) in years or dollars. It certainly seems like the lack of a trade market means the industry as a whole aren't super enthused with Contreras. I'd happily take him back if he falls to the 3/60 or 4/75 range.
  7. I'm hoping it players I wont care about, but it's inevitably going to be someone important and I'll just become more disillusioned.
  8. Fun with numbers that mean basically nothing because of sample size, but since Franmil joined the Cubs 30 PA .367/.367/.733 line good for a .465 wOBA and 201 wRC+ It would help this team out so much if they cold turn him into something like a 130 wRC+ DH. Last I saw the league average for a DH was 107 wRC+.
  9. I'd say that those lost pitchers were nearly mitigated by having Steele and Thompson pitch way above any realistic expectations. Add in 53.1 innings of 3.88 ERA from a guy who was supposed to be a AAA wash out in Sampson and if anything I'd say they've gotten pretty lucky
  10. Am I the only confused as horsefeathers after reading this post? I feel like this is the case more often than not after reading a Tom post.
  11. By which he means getting 2nd/3rd tier FA and hyping them like they're 1st tier.
  12. A little late to the party Sage, but yes Nagy was absolutely horrendous.
  13. How could using a using a deceased celebrity's likeness for profit possibly be construed as offensive? In fact, I think the hologram should wear a Budweiser shirt too for a little extra ad revenue. Then we'll bring in Ron and Ernie to sing the 7th inning stretch presented by Wintrust.
  14. I just thought I'd revisit this treasure. He's putting up a .237/.274/.374 line good for a 72 wRC+ on the season and a 39 wRC+ since this tweet on June 29th . Maybe, just maybe, it wasn't the Cubs and you just aren't very good.
  15. I don't know that he'll get much hype. For guys who provide 90+% of their value via the bat, they have to absolutely destroy the league to gain any real notoriety and even then it's the guys with a real plus tool as well.
  16. If Mooney gets hurt, this could legitimately be a historically awful WR squad. Exactly what you'd want when you're seeing if you have a franchise quarterback or not.
  17. I get that he's doing a teardown and purging the previous FO's guys, but not sure how dumping talent for 50 cents on the dollar is helping the team long term. The Bears hired him to fulfill his vision of building a winning team and we just have to trust that he is doing that, or at the very least go along for the ride and hope it works out. I don't necessarily disagree with the strategy, but I think he's taken it quite a bit farther than most people would. The way he's stripping the team down, Fields is going to be at the end of his contract before they ends up putting anything competitive on the field.
  18. Starting to feel like we somehow downgraded at GM. I know it's nearly impossible for that to be the case for the HC, but damn this has been a horrendous offseason so far.
  19. Please let us see some Mervis at bats so we know if he's an option for next year.
  20. Josh Bell 5/80 Xander Bogaerts 6/180 Carlos Rodon 4/100 Trade Caissie+Hernandez+Canario(might be light, Canario might have to swapped out for a better piece) for Tarik Skubal C: Gomes(With Amaya coming up at some point) 1B: Bell 2B: Madrigal SS: Hoerner 3B: Bogaerts LF: Happ CF: Davis RF: Suzuki Bench: Morel, Wisdom, Ortega, McKinstry, Higgins, Velazquez SP: Rodon, Stroman, Skubal, Steele, Hendricks, Thompson RP: Don't care, but I want to see Leeper+ Estrada get innings I'm a bit torn on what I would do with Keegan in this scenario. You could use him as trade bait, and keeping him in Iowa as the 6th man feels like a waste. Schwindel, Rivas, Bote and Hermosillo can all be fired into the sun.
  21. Actually kind of love this. 125 wRC+ last year and a 116 the year before.
  22. Jarlin Susana, the lesser known of the prospects that went in the Soto deal, has apparently already touched 102 MPH at age 18 per a National's FO member. That package they got was really really good.
  23. The further I get away from the trade deadline, and the more rational my mind starts to become. I wonder if the enormous 40 man crunch really limited the return that Hoyer could take. I know that the pitcher they got from the Yankees needs to be added and that they have a huge amount of people who are going to be Rule 5 eligible. I'm actually going to be surprised if a lot of move aren't made in the offseason to address that 40 man roster crunch, otherwise the Cubs are going to lose a ton of people in the rule 5.
  24. If I remember correctly K% normalizes quite quickly, so we should be at a large enough sample size to confidentially say that there's some type of mechanical change that caused this and we should be optimistic about it going forward.
  25. I think you're right. Abrams, Hassell and Wood are all guys I could see individually putting up 4+ fWAR year in and year out with upside for substantially more. Jarlin has some mega helium too. I'm honestly kind of shocked they got as much as they did given how quickly this came to fruition and how the Nats didn't have a ton of leverage.
