  1. Sure looks like despite having the most fa money by far, Poles is going value shopping. Just doesn't make any sense.
  2. Still early, but what a disaster it would be if Poles completely whiffed on the OL market. Any positive feelings from the trade would be completely wiped out.
  3. Even if they're going OL at 9, they still need to add one impact lineman in FA.
  4. Must be nice to sign several mega stars like the big market Padres.
  5. that would be one of the most shocking trades I’ve ever seen, 2 additional 1st round picks and a 2nd to move up 1 spot in the draft when all they had to do was not convert 2 4th and super longs on the final drive of their last meaningless game and convert a 2 point conversion #2, #12 and a 2024 pick that might turn into Marvin Harrison Jr. I refuse to let myself even slightly believe something this good is possible.
  6. He's going to jump PCA in the rankings this year. In a system with a ton of depth and lots of solid to good but unspectacular prospects, Alcantara is the guy who has the ceiling to be a superstar. There are others with big ceilings, but no one with proximity to the majors and his ceiling.
  7. I heard something on the radio that you could bet the over/under of 5 seconds for how long the "brave" is sung in the star spangled banner before the game. Who sets the odds on this random crap?
  8. Remarkably terribly run organization. In a city where the McCaskeys and the Ricketts are owners and you're somehow worse than both.
  9. Really good list. Even the stuff I'd disagree on (e.g. I'd move Horton/Mervis up a grade and Triantos/Kilian/Herz each down a grade) is imminently reasonable. I feel like there's just far more logical consistency here than Law's or BA's rankings. As someone who was super high on Triantos going into 2022, I don't see a reasonable way to put him at 50FV and a top125 prospect. The defense is worse than I thought and the bat wasn't quite as advanced as I thought. I just don't see any world in which Davis is a lower ranked prospect than Triantos.
  10. Watch, the FO will slow play this and by the time they're ready to compete Fields will be on the last year of his rookie contract looking for an ungodly amount of money.
  11. A small bright spot in a channel filled with nothing but bad Dempster impersonations and Ricketts loving company men.
  12. I'm somewhat high on Busch, not that I think he's a star, but I think he's a solid bet to be a 110 to 115 wRC+ guy. If he sticks at 2B with non horrendous defense there's some all-star upside, but I think that's pretty unlikely. If he ends up in LF he's probably a solid everyday regular.
  13. Sadly BA has tanked along with a lot of other groups. BP is basically dead and FG is still my favorite but not where it was a few years ago. It would honestly be a great time for an upstart group to come up and make a name for themselves.
  14. The hottest of hot takes, so bad that you can't help but cringe as a fellow Chicago fan.
  15. So he sacrificed his marriage for 1 very marginal season. Not the direction I would have gone.
  16. 79-81 is basically where I'm at. My bigger problem is that this is going to be one incredibly boring team to watch. No super exciting prospects, no mega stars, nothing to really get excited about until the 2nd half.
  17. If it's true that Russell Wilson was so clueless that he was literally calling plays from his time in Seattle during the huddle while with Denver confusing everyone, then I'm willing to give Hackett a pass. Pete Carroll certainly didn't seem to miss Russell at all and made it pretty clear.
  18. I wouldn't mind N'keal Harry back as a WR5 if he's willing to take a near league minimum.
  19. Were the rating systems always this bad?
  20. These mock offseason and mock drafts from sports writers are so bad. Trade Fields for Lamar Jackson? In what way is that a positive for the Bears. Take Quentin Johnston at #4 with Will Anderson still on the board? Are you kidding me?
  21. That description fit the bill for a number of Cubs pitchers from the 00s to 10s, namely Marmol, Farnsworth, Samardzija, Zambrano, and Clement. The problem was, those guys all had a tendency to air it out in big moments rather than trust their natural movement. Zambrano was the one it reminded me of. When he got too amped up and started throwing 96-97 he didn't get as much drop on the sinker and got hit harder. From what I remember, Marmol was more over throwing the sliders that would start missing a foot outside or bounce in front of the plate.
  22. Yes, if Trever Lawerence is in this draft he's #1. A lot also depends on who is at the top of the draft and what they need as evidenced by all this talk. I think the Bears should keep Fields but I also don't necessarily think they should trade the #1 pick. It depends on who they think their top target is and who is drafting at what spots who may also be targeting the same player. If they trade down just to get more picks and lose out on their target, well that doesn't seem to make sense to me. But like I said before they have many and varied needs so there may not be a top target, but a few of them. If so, it makes more sense to trade down. You kind of have to put trust in the management team here. Sure, there are are scenarios I could see them using the #1. For example, if they view Anderson as a significantly better prospect than Jalen Carter. In that scenario you have to take him at #1 because Arizona probably snags Anderson at #3. If Stroud/Young somehow tank their draft stock in the combine where it's unlikely that QBs go #1 and #2 and Anderson/Carter are gone before #4 then maybe you have to use the #1 there as well. Outside of those 2 scenarios I can't really envision a time where using #1 makes sense, but it's plausible.
  23. That would be one way to sever what little attachment I have left to this team.
  24. Running quarterbacks can't win.
  25. If Stroud stays, you would have like 10 teams in a bidding war. The gap between Young and Will Levis is pretty huge. That would be pretty much best case scenario.
