  1. If we're down to filling out the team with Brandon Belt and Jean Segura then just go full tank, that team would need an absurd amount of variance to sneak into the playoffs.
  2. That is a 40th anniversary show. Is it possible they bring him on to make a huge announcement? Yeah, but it seems rather unlikely.
  3. Still a lot could happen but we're almost 100M in, currently the offense looks worse and the pitching a bit better compared to a bad team last year.
  4. If they signed Bellinger as a 1B, then fire Hoyer immediately. 17m for a 1B unlikely to put up 100 ops+ would be a laughably terrible waste of resources.
  5. I think the upside is enormous. Right now they're still very sloppy with lots of turnovers and 1v1 on offense, but as they gel they could very well be the team that finally gets UI back into the sweet 16 and further. Clark is going too fast, lots of unnecessary dribbling, I think he'll start figuring it out soon. In the meantime, Epps was very good last night, he's fearless not afraid of rising to moment and taking a big shot. Him and Clark both are the types that can penetrate, get to the hoop, this style seems to excel in the tournament. Would love if the Illini had another shot at Maryland - Illini' best >>> Maryland' best - Ilini did play well at all and still could have won at Maryland. Hopefully they get Goode back and in shape before the tournament hits.
  6. Passan says 5 years, 87.5M Good for Willson.
  7. Will the Cubs actually make a Rule 5 selection today? Will Misner or Canzone even be there?
  8. The bat flips that are coming against the Cubs will definitely be deserved.
  9. Keegan Thompson?
  10. Looks like Contreras is likely headed to St. Louis.
  11. Considering how little these guys have played together, I'm hoping that they continue to get better as the year goes. I think the upside is enormous. Right now they're still very sloppy with lots of turnovers and 1v1 on offense, but as they gel they could very well be the team that finally gets UI back into the sweet 16 and further.
  12. Jansen to the Red Sox on a 2/32 deal and I am baffled. Why does a bad team need an expensive closer?
  13. Fearful no, but the reality is that they likely aren't going over the soft cap so spending less on Taillon means they can buy more given that restriction. I'm sure the Ricketts could have a 300M payroll and turn a profit, but that's not reality.
  14. A solid, but not spectacular move, I feel better about it given the financial terms, I was scared I'd see something like 4/80 or 5/95 in this market.
  15. I don't think Taillon is bad, he solidifies a spot in the rotation. I just don't really see the point of Bellinger unless they intend to compete this year and even then, I feel like they could have filled the roster with another player with far fewer question marks and more recent success, but without the upside. If they don't go out and grab one of the SS, a catcher and another pitcher then I don't really see the point besides shipping him off at the trade deadline.
  16. Probably means Correa is a must have for SF now
  17. I don't dislike Taillon but he's a mid rotation guy and that's his upside. I would have liked them to grab someone with the possibility to take that next step. Still, the guy is a solid #3 on a good rotation.
  18. Illinois takes out #2 in OT after being down 10 with 7 minutes to go. Huge win.
  19. What is the upside play here? If you think you're going to be competitive this year, you don't blow almost 20m on a guy with this many question marks and even if he's good, then you have to pay him full fa rate next year.
  20. 17.5m, gross.
  21. Heaney to the Rangers on a 2/25 deal that could be as much as 2/37.
  22. This is the dream, but I can't imagine it would be cheap. Yep, he'll be that AJ Brown territory. Not getting him for less than a first rounder. I'd love a scenario where they get both of the Seattle's 1sts and used the 2nd 1st to get Higgins.
  23. This is the dream, but I can't imagine it would be cheap.
  24. I'd be all for that, but I don't know how much value Madrigal has. He can't stay healthy, has no defensive value, and has no power. He's like a 1970s early 80s-era 2nd baseman. He's a 2.5-3 fWAR guy, when healthy, still under control for 4 years. There's value there.
  25. Just me talking out my ass, but with the Orioles desperately wanting pitching and top tier FAs likely reluctant to go, I wonder if we match up. They have a true CF in Mullins, we have Keegan Thompson to dangle. It would take another significant piece say Madrigal and maybe even a minor prospect. Baltimore had the worst production out of 2B in all of baseball last year so a healthy Madrigal is an pretty big upgrade and Keegan gives them a solid 4/5.
