  1. 3/45 is completely reasonable and I'd take it 100 times out of 100 vs giving Chapman 100+M.
  2. Depends on the contract. If it's like 4/60, that's not bad.
  3. Well that's 2 of the teams the Cubs were fighting for the final playoff spot last year who got significantly better tonight. Meanwhile Jed is on hands and knees in the hotel lobby looking for change under the vending machines.
  4. They're all in on Yamamoto according to just about everyone, so my guess is they just pay the luxury tax.
  5. I'll take it with a grain of salt, because it's too stupid to be true, but if Hoskins is the big FA signing, Jed shouldn't go to bed tonight employed by the Chicago Cubs.
  6. People are severely underestimating King. An absolute lock down reliever in 2022(2.29 ERA, 2.23FIP) who was lock down in 2023 and transitioned into a starter putting up 2.2 fwar in only 104.2IP. He's really really good. The trade value site has him listed at 33.4, that's equivalent to a Cade Horton level prospect.
  7. Sonny Gray and to a lesser extent Kimbrel, but Kimbrel is more significant by name than performance, though he was still pretty solid in 2023.
  8. That quote from Carter Hawkins a day or two ago makes me think they're more in prospect hording mode than trading mode. Maybe, I'm reading it wrong, but that was my take. They'll deal from depth, but I don't think they're moving the top guys.
  9. I've been adamant about wanting one of Alt/Fashanu with the Bear's pick, but I could definitely be sold on another good pass rusher like Laiatu Latu. With that said, the ultimate balls move based purely on upside over need would be Bowers.
  10. Hayden Cantrelle looks somewhat interesting. The BB% is crazy high(18.5%), the K% around average(21.0%). The power is just about nonexistent(,091 ISO), but he does have 60 grade speed and stole 14 bases only being caught once. I wonder if the lack of power is more swing related or due to being extremely passive hence the nearly 20BB% in 2023. The lost players, none of whom were in FG's top 50, were Andrew Weber, 28 year old Levi Jordan who I had not even heard of until today, 25 year old reliever Adam Laskey and 26 year old reliever Sheldon Reed.
  11. Don't bother getting hopeful on Soto, it's not happening. It's just going to be Lucy pulling the football from Charlie Brown again.
  12. I feel like we're at the point where there's like a sub 5% chance the Cubs enter 2024 where I'm super excited by what they've done in the offseason, a 70% chance I'm like ok it's not exciting but it's ok and a 25% chance I'm wondering if they've improved at all over their 2023 roster.
  13. Bellinger was a HR Dansby was good Mancini was a disaster Hosmer was a disaster Barnhart was a disaster Smyly was bad Fulmer was I guess OK Boxberger was a disaster Edwin Rios was basically nothing Yeah, it wasn't good.
  14. That'll teach you to have expectations when it comes to the Cubs. Just grow old and cynical like me.
  15. They need to limit the lottery to like 10 teams. A team that finishes 1 game out of the playoffs should not have a chance at picking #1.
  16. An 82-80 team getting #2 is really gross.
  17. Maybe it won't take 2 months.
  18. What part was wrong? IP by year 2016: 23.1 2017: 62.0 2018: 111.2 2019 60.2 2020 57.1 2021 88.0 2022 6.2 2023 120.0
  19. I'd made peace with them being out on Ohtani/Soto/Yamamoto about a week ago. It's going to end up being pretty much what I thought it would be. Hoskins, Glasnow, Candy and some other 3rd tier guys.
  20. I'm not particularly high on Morel, but dear god would be that a horrific overpay.
  21. It was also Alonso's worst season where he was sporting a .207 babip and Glasnow's most IP in his professional career as well as the first time he's topped 100IP since 2018. You can safely expect one to trend positive while the other is likely to trend the other way.
  22. Alonso isn't being paid 25M and causing us to hope he plays for half a season
