In my case I have reasons for all three. I was living in the Chicago area when I first started following football, I was living in Indiana when the Colts moved from Baltimore, and I was living in North Carolina when the Panthers started (and still am in NC). It's no trouble for me as long as I have a clear pecking order when it comes to the teams. For example, in Super Bowl XLI I wasn't happy that the Bears lost, I was just less unhappy than I would have been if they had lost to somebody else.

I'll pick Jake McGee, P, Tampa Bay. A couple years ago before he had TJS he was considered on the same level as Wade Davis, so I'm willing to gamble on his recovery.

That's actually how we've done things at the major league level ever since I've been in the league. We've allowed until shortly before the start of the regular season to get major league rosters legal because outcomes of Spring Training battles could affect decisions on who to drop. To me it makes sense to do the same thing at the minor league level.

Since the Bears are my favorite team and the Panthers my third favorite (behind the Colts) seeing Peppers sign with the Bears would more than offset the disappointment of seeing him leave the Panthers.

yea, thats the idea Just so everyone knows the hold up, I'm waiting to see what two players Deven is dropping before I make my pick. I was ready to pick all day yesterday, but if one of the players Deven drops is better than the guy in my queue, I don't want to miss out on my opportunity at one of his guys. Makes sense to me. Until he makes his drops you don't know who the best available player is. If you make a pick, then he drops somebody you'd prefer, that player might not still be available by the time your turn comes around again.

It doesn't seem to me that it happens very often, but occasionally an RB does rebound after joining a new team. Several years ago Marcus Allen was declining in Oakland but got rejuvenated with Kansas City. Having said that, however, I don't see the Bears' offensive line as being the one to rejuvenate LT.

when i lived in seattle i used to go up there all the time with my wife. seattle is better, but vancouver is awesome. I like both Seattle and Vancouver a lot, but my favorite city in that area is Victoria.

If we're discussing potential rules changes anyway an idea I'd like to bring up for discussion is the possibility of increasing the number of reserve spots on our rosters. It can be really hard to manage if you want to have a couple of extra pitchers to get the 7 starts per week and also have a prospect you want to keep but has lost minor league eligibility and not yet broken into the major league starting lineup, and also possibly a player that's injured and expected to miss several games but isn't actually on the DL. There have been discussions in the past about what is and isn't allowed to get 7 starts for a week, and if we had a few extra reserve spots that wouldn't be a problem because you could carry enough pitchers and still be able to accommodate a prospect not yet in the starting lineup or an injured but not DL'd player.

I thought you did have a contract with the Cubs a few years ago before getting suspended for PEDs. :D You people on this site have an amazing memory. I haven't mentioned that in years. You did mention it every 5 days for the years that Taylor was in the system. These things stick with a person. I did? Sorry about that. You don't remember saying "go me" in the minor league game threads when he pitched? -
I can see why you would prefer that but my initial reaction is not to change it. Let me think about it and see what others think. I certainly wouldn't want a lower limit for minor league eligibility, because it can already be a challenge to keep a player who has lost eligibility but hasn't yet become a major league regular.

That's the basic idea - this would be similar to signing free agents to long-term deals. I'm for it then. It gives you a potential reward if you're willing to take some risk. I assume you could still trade the player but the new owner would then have to honor the remaining commitment.

I'm trying to understand the long-term possibilities Juan mentioned so I can form an opinion. It seems to me that points are already tied to performance, so I'm not sure what change is being proposed. As far as long-term commitments are concerned, does that mean you'd be locked into the number of points from the most recent year? For example, if a player has 400 points for 2010 and you give that player a three-year commitment, does that count as 400 points for each of the next three years? If so, I can see the benefit since you might be able to keep a player for fewer points than actually scored (with the offsetting risk of counting more than actual points if the player regresses).
