  1. Take off, you hoser.
  2. Rodelo now up for two picks in a row if he's still picking, followed by Karen.
  3. Tell that to the NFL.
  4. It wouldn't have to be Kansas, although it very well may be. Both sets of Wildcats lost by single digits on the road, but Kansas lost to an unranked team while Kentucky lost to a ranked team. So although I'm not saying it would happen, I certainly think there could be justification for Kentucky jumping over Kansas.
  5. The Bagwell for Anderson trade reminds me of another trade that didn't make the list, Detroit trading John Smoltz to Atlanta for Doyle Alexander in 1987. In the long run Atlanta obviously got the best of the trade, but the immediate aftermath was in Detroit's favor. Alexander went 9-0 in 11 starts with a 1.53 ERA and 1.008 WHIP following the trade and was a major factor in Detroit's winning the AL East that year (similar impact to Sutcliffe for the 1984 Cubs). Meanwhile Smoltz was a major part of the later Braves' dynasty. So that trade helped both teams, Detroit in the present and Atlanta in the future.
  6. 50 years ago today the USA beat the Soviets in hockey on their way to their first gold medal in hockey.
  7. Haha, it only took them a year and a half to figure that one out. A lot longer than that. This is the 2000 Olympics we're talking about, not the 2008 Bejing games.Oh. I didn't even know they had that age limit back then, and I don't remember hearing about any controversy. The controversy apparently existed back then, but I think it was just more widely discussed in 2008 since the games were in China. In any event I should have said A year when they used underaged gymnasts rather than THE year.
  8. Me too....if I only because I want to see him when the Smokies come to Mississippi. And likewise I want to see him when the Smokies come to Carolina.
  9. Agreed. He made a mistake, he paid the price, time to move on and see if he learned his lesson.

  11. Temporarily hijacking this thread for a Summer Olympics related post rather than starting a new thread. The U.S. women's gymnastic team may get a belated bronze medal for the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. That's the year that the Chinese won the bronze with gymnasts that everybody knew were underage but nobody could actually prove. The International Gymnastics Federation is now recommending that the International Olympics Committee strip the Chinese of the bronze. If that happens the U.S. would move up from 4th to 3rd. http://sports.espn.go.com/oly/gymnastics/news/story?id=4950365
  12. I was curious when I read this post since my PhD is from UK, so I did some checking. Apparently the NCAA had some questions about a possible relationship with Scott Boras. The Kentucky AD ordered him to submit to an interview with NCAA investigators or else he wouldn't be allowed to remain on the team. He sued UK. Last week he lost in court and decided to leave the team rather than being interviewed. Apparently he wasn't even told what rule he was being accused of violating. http://thequad.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/12/02/ace-pitcher-sues-kentucky/ http://www.courier-journal.com/article/20100226/SPORTS/2260383/1002/UK+says+Paxton+leaves+baseball+team
  13. I'm likely to pass when my turn comes. I have a full minor league roster and may need to drop somebody to create a spot anyway if I decide to move Wade Davis (who is still minor league eligible) back down, which I might if he struggles early in the season.
  14. Given the circumstances I think winning bronze meant as much to her as winning gold did to Na.
  15. This article makes it sound like no big deal.
  16. Boy was I careless. If I realized Lee was still available I would have picked him over Mier. My own fault for rushing when it was going so fast yesterday.
  17. It's a shame that most of the greatest voices baseball will ever know are gone. Fantastic announcers, ones that can take the listening experience to the next level, are a dying breed. I like Pat Hughes' Baseball Voices CD series for that reason. The great broadcasters may be gone but we can still have the memories.
  18. Top 9 broadcasters of all time: 9. Curt Gowdy 8. Phil Rizzutto 7. Harry Caray 6. Harry Kalas 5. Ernie Harwell 4. Jack Buck 3. Red Barber 2. Mel Allen 1. Vin Scully
  19. Nice of CBS Sports to e-mail my draft order message over 6 hours after I post it, when it's woefully out of date.
  20. Angels catcher is the default info when adding someone to the database. I'll drop him and re-add him for you. I figured that was probably the case (first team alphabetically, first position alphabetically). I probably didn't think to mention his team and position when I drafted him last year. That and Juan didn't have any help with this stuff last year that I can recall. I was having trouble keeping up this morning when the picks were coming in hot and heavy between adding players to the database, adding players to teams, updating the draft thread with the most recent picks, and checking back to the draft thread to see if there have been more picks while also sending out PM's and emails to the next draftees. It was definitely fast and furious for awhile this morning. I was caught off guard that my turn came up again so quickly.

  22. Is it possible to correct the listing for Dae-Eun Rhee to show him as a Cubs' pitcher rather than Angels' catcher? He was added with that listing last year when I drafted him since he wasn't (and still isn't) in the database. No big deal if its too much of a hassle, but I like to have an accurate listing of pitchers and position players on my roster.
  23. I was on Roadkill and Baseball America's web sites researching my next pick. Once it gets to this stage of the draft it isn't easy finding a Top 100 prospect that isn't already taken.
  24. Jiovanni Mier, SS, Houston. He is not in the database.
