  1. Despite BP's claims to the contrary the game is still open and you can still make changes. Looks like anybody's guess as to when the real deadline is. Accordingly I changed from Kendall to Zaun at catcher.
  2. I think there are legitimate points on both sides of this. Would a possible compromise be to turn threads such as the general TV, movies, music, etc. threads into subforums within Social, then allow threads on specific TV shows, albums, etc. within those subforums?
  3. That SHOULD be a no-hitter in my opinion, but the current guidelines don't recognize it if the pitcher only pitches 8 innings due to the opponent not needing to bat in the bottom of the 9th. It was recognized as a no-no at the time, before the current rules were adopted.
  4. From what I read it was actually a fertility drug, not a PED. Nonetheless it still was a banned substance. The suspension isn't going to cost him any actual playing time, because it starts immediately and will be over before he'd be ready to come off the DL.
  5. Playing devil's advocate a little, we have threads for individual TV shows (The Office, Scrubs, and 24 come to mind) in addition to a general TV thread. I don't know why video games should be different in that regard.

    Week 3

One good pitching decision (starting Piniero) and two bad decisions (starting Cook, sitting D-Train) for me today.
  7. Didn't someone on the Angels throw a "no-hitter" and lose recently? 8 innings loss, Jared Weaver and a reliever (Arredondo maybe?) combined. According to a list of no-hitters on espn.com there hasn't been a no-hitter (as recognized under current rules) in a losing effort since 1967. The game you mentioned wouldn't be recognized as a no-no under current rules since it didn't go 9 full innings.
  8. Tennessee beat Carolina 2-1. The unearned run off of Cashner in the 1st came as a result of a single (one of only two hits he gave up). the runner advancing to second on a hit-and-run, stealing third and then scoring when Chiniros' throw sailed into the outfield. Tennessee tied it up in the 6th when Campana and Castro had back-to-back singles. Wright then hit what looked like a double play ball, but after Castro was forced at second the throw to first went into the dugout, allowing Campana to score. The Smokies then scored the winning run in the 9th when Optiz singled in Guyer. Campana looks like a good bunter; one of his two hits was a bunt single (with two strikes on him) and he nearly had another bunt single later in the game. I thought Cashner looked very good despite having fewer strikeouts than in his previous starts.

    Week 3

The battle for "Least in the East" has begun!! Set your DVRs! Or, from a more positive angle, the battle for the rights to draft Bryce Harper. :D
  10. I plan to be at the Tennessee-Carolina game. It should be Cashner's turn.
  11. Yes he was with the Cardinals then. He was called up from the minors for a spot start, threw a no-no, and was immediately sent back down again.
  12. Not at least until I've had a chance to see him play at Carolina this week.
  13. That can't possibly be true. I suspect he's looking at individual LOB, not team LOB.
  14. That isn't recognized as a no-hitter any more. Several years ago the rules for a no-hitter were changed, and now a pitcher (or more than one pitcher) must pitch at least nine innings to get credited with a no-hitter. If a no-hitter was previously recognized with a no-hitter and he only pitched 8 innings because of being behind (as with Hawkins) or less due to a rain-shortened game, those no-hitters have been wiped from the record books. Also no longer recognized are games where a pitcher pitches at least nine no-hit innings but gives up a hit in extra innings (such as Hippo Vaughn and Harvey Haddix). I agree with the second change I mentioned but not the first. Regardless of the number of innings, if a game is an official completed game and the teams pitcher (or more than one pitcher) does not allow a hit the entire game it should be a no-hitter.
  15. I doubt that the Cubs would be creative, but until such time as either Silva or Gorz clearly lays claim to the position I'd like to see them share the role. What I envision is one time through the rotation Silva would start and Gorz would be in long relief, and switch it the next time through.
  16. In 1955 Sam "Toothpick" Jones of the Cubs threw a no-hitter despite allowing 7 walks. He walked the bases loaded to start the 9th inning and was almost pulled from the game, but then struck out the side. That year he led the NL in most losses (20), the most walks (185), and the most batters hit by a pitch (14), yet somehow he was an All-Star.
  17. He may be mistaken. Baseball Reference doesn't show that, and normally they do show pitching stats for position players (for example, they show both Doug Dascenzo's and Larry Biittner's pitching stats)..
  18. Career ERA of 0.00.
  19. They play a night game in New York but still it would be nice. Other than the time of day and where they're playing I had it right.
  20. Too bad it wasn't tomorrow night's game that went so long. The Mets have to travel to Chicago to play a day game against the Cubs on Monday; it would be nice for them to be exhausted when the game starts.
  21. The Cubs' media guide confirms that Die Hard did indeed sign a minor league contract with the Cubs in January, and he is included with the minor league players in the guide. I'm not sure why cubs.com doesn't show that, since the transaction list there usually includes minor league signings. Given his age (I can't remember whether it's 37 or 38) Wrigley Rat's speculation makes sense to me; at that age I doubt that he was signed as a potential major league callup.
  22. It's different this year. Only games starting between 1:06 EST and 7:04 EST are subject to blackout. So the Cubs game avoids the blackout by exactly one minute. This really makes more sense to me than the past, since the early afternoon games should be over or nearly over before the Fox broadcast begins. I still hope the blackout is eventually eliminated altogether (perhaps when the contract is up for renewal).
  23. We're at .500, not above (at least until a few hours from now). [/nitpick]
  24. If Hendry even talks about a trade such as Vitters for Bell he needs to be fired immediately.
  25. I'm guessing not, since the DirecTV guide shows that the game is available on Extra Innings.
