I'm fairly sure that last year Juan said that a draft pick that actually got called up to the majors that same year could be picked up before the next prospect draft, but it would have to be through waivers to avoid the fastest fingers issue.
  2. Dave Stevens, we hardly knew ye.

I tried to do that last year with Norris to get my 7th start, and the ruling was that it was invalid (it didn't really matter anyway, since he put up a negative start). I think it would be OK if it were to replace an injured player.

Assuming the September call-up is that player's only major league action that year I'd say it's theoretically possible but less likely than the Cubs winning the World Series this year. There's no way that a hitter would exceed 250 plate appearances or a pitcher make 10 starts in one month. It would be possible, but I believe highly unlikely, for a relief pitcher to make 25 appearances in one month.
  5. He'll sign with the Cubs as soon as he clears waivers; book it. Can't have too many mediocre middle infielders, ya know.
  6. They ARE giving Stevens a chance. He was called up yesterday when Caridad went on the DL.
  7. If you had bashed the Cubs' offense (especially the middle of the batting order) or the bullpen you might have some credibility. But by bashing the rotation you have none, zero, zip, nada.
  8. You're probably thinking of this game. May 17, 1979. Phillies 23, Cubs 22 in 10 innings. The Cubs hit 6 HRs (including 3 by Dave Kingman) and the Phillies hit 5 (including 2 by Mike Schmidt). It was 7-6 Phillies after just 1 inning, and both starting pitchers lasted only 1/3 inning each.
  9. Danieal Manning has signed his one-year tender offer for $1.176 million.

If he was talking about a summer draft I'd think he was talking about having it after the signing deadline (which is now in August) rather than right after the draft in June. Personally I don't think it would make sense to have one before the signing deadline because you wouldn't know who signs and who doesn't. If we do have a draft during the season it would pretty much have to be based on standings during the season (whether it's July 31 or a different date) since the year-end standings wouldn't be known by then (unless it's based on the previous year-end, which I wouldn't object to). I like the idea of an August prospect draft, since the nature of that draft is such that it really needs to be an extended draft on NSBB since many of the players would not yet be in the database, That's especially true if we consider sticking with an extended regular draft again. I thought having two back-to-back extended drafts as we did this year made it seem like it was dragging along too long.
  11. I didn't realize he's from Clayton, NC. That's only about half an hour from where I live. He should feel right at home whenever he gets promoted to Tennessee and comes to Carolina to play.

I'm fairly sure there isn't a draft in June. Last year there was supposed to be a prospect draft in August (after the signing deadline for MLB draftees) but it wasn't held; there wasn't a prospect draft until before the regular draft this spring. I haven't seen anything definitive for this year, but whether there's another prospect draft this year or not until next year I think the order is the same as the regular draft (based on the Fecal League standings at the July 31 trading deadline).
  13. I was about to post a link to the ESPN Chicago report. According to the report he will pitch three times in long relief to get stretched out, then return to the rotation. It didn't mention a specific date for his return to the rotation, nor did it say who he'll replace in the rotation.
  14. Maybe a bad outing for Silva would be the justification for Zambrano's pending move back to the rotation.
  15. I really think there's a category between legendary and tolerable, for those who are above average but not at the level of all-time great. To me the difference between legendary vs. tolerable would be like the difference between A vs. C in school with no B in between. And I'd put Len in the above average but short of legendary category.
  16. Arizona Phil has the details for those of you who want to read about it. According to his report the attendance for the game was 12.
  17. The ONLY way Lou can be allowed to move Z to long relief without losing his job is if it is just a short-term move to get him stretched back out for a move back to the rotation. The pending trade theory seems like the most logical explanation.
  18. There are 2 on the current team. How dare you interrupt my hyperbole with facts!!! And Ronny Cedeno is waving to you from Pittsburgh! being an everyday player in Pittsburgh doesn't count (not b/c it's not the Cubs, but b/c Pittsburgh isn't a real MLB team) Yet somehow they own the Cubs.

You should give up when you can't even beat a previously winless team with a manager that mismanages his team into only 6 starts. :P
  20. One and the same.
  21. Don should feel humiliated this week. Losing to a previously winless team, especially when said team had only 6 active pitching starts because the owner goofed. :P
  22. Probably the 1951 playoff, followed by the Sandberg game in 1984.
  23. Yes he has. And I believe he has at least one hit in all but one game (and I believe he had a walk in that game).
