  1. IIRC, Lou and Larry had a previous relkationship. I believe Larry was Lou's pitching coach for the Reds. There is some recent precedence with the Cubs for requiring even an experienced manager to keep a coach with time remaining on a multi-year contract. Dusty was stuck with Larry even though he clearly would have preferred Dick Pole as pitching coach.
  2. Folks, we've all been getting this thread wrong (including myself). I just noticed this thread is supposed to be about some guy named Hednry, not Hendry.
  3. I think at least one of Silva or Marmol might have a chance to be added as a replacement. There's a new rule this year that a pitcher who starts the Sunday before the All-Star Game can't pitch in the game. I assume that means a replacement would be named for any such pitcher.
  4. Hendry HAS to be a goner. I don't disagree with Bruce very often, but on this I do. I might also be in favor of keeping Fleita given the resurgence of the farm system.
  5. Back to the DL. He could be backdated to yesterday, so after today that would mean he'd only need to miss 13 days. And three of those would be during the All-Star break, so he'd only need to miss about a week and a half of actual games.
  6. Should Hendry get another chance? Not just no, but HELL no. We should declare our independence from Jim and Lou today.
  7. Agree.
  8. At least we now know that "foreseeable future" means maybe a half day. :D
  9. The only reason I was "allowed" to keep the points was because it was a negative start. I do remember Juan agreeing with you but saying that a scoring adjustment wasn't needed because the score was negative.
  10. I sent an e-mail, but haven't received a response yet, and I told her there was a chance someone else would speak up first. So I have no problem with Delroy getting the spot.
  11. I think it would be hard even for the Cubs to surpass the loss a couple of weeks ago where the winning run scored from first on a sacrifice bunt.
  12. I have three possible candidates in mind who a few of us are familiar with, either from another league that Karen is also in (the same league Brian was in several years ago) or from cubs.com back in the day. The three I have in mind are Cindy (CubzGal), Klaus (Dokta on cubs.com; Naked Sheeps in the other league), or Richard (Cubs Addict on cubs.com; Bleacher Bums in the other league). I'll e-mail them one at a time to find out. If someone else finds a replacement in the meantime that's fine too; as I e-mail them I'll mention that somebody else may take the spot first.
  13. He's certainly the best catcher whose manager has forgotten that he exists.
  14. But I SHOULD have been punished (as you made a HUGE case of) for trying to do the same thing last year? Yeah, right.
  15. He made a federal case of it last year when I tried to promote Norris from my minor league roster midweek to get a 7th start. If you can't promote a player from your own minor league roster you shouldn't be able to add a free agent. I don't recall if the circumstances were the same, though.
  16. The Cubs should keep Soto. He'll be here next year and Lou won't, so if he just has the patience to ride it out this year he'll regain his starting job.
  17. Exhibit 1: Tony LaRussa and his .199 career batting average.
  18. There's approximately a zero percent chance that they fire a highly paid hitting coach with a multi-year contract, nor should they. The problems clearly aren't his fault, given that the offense also sucked last year under both Perry and Joshua.
  19. I'm actually finding other catchers to start over Soto without actually cutting him. Lou refuses to play him consistently, so I'm finding guys like George Kottaras and Kurt Suzuki to play until Lou decides to start Soto again. I recently picked up Suzuki in the league where I have Soto, until either Lou remembers who his starting catcher is or Lou is replaced.
  20. You might be better off just leaving the spot vacant.
  21. This year wasn't even worthy of Vance starting a voting campaign.
  22. 2010 Cubs: Drug dealers' best friends.
  23. That's exactly who I was thinking of. I remembered it after I made my post and was going to edit my post to correct it but you beat me to it.
  24. Yep, they're both gone. Jerry DiPito (former pitcher for the Cubs among other teams) takes over as interim GM and Kirk Gibson is interim manager.
