  1. Giving him another shot is a win-win. Either he shows he's learned something or else the Cubs get help in the Fecal League standings.
  2. One of Fred's worthless stats for today should be the Cubs' record on days where Fred lists the wrong day's pitching matchups. :D
  3. Casey Coleman starting doesn't inspire a lot of confidence in me.
  4. They should be able to. They shouldn't be required to pay him another penny (at least for the rest of this year) when he can't play due to his own stupidity.
  5. I sent PM's to Cubbies622 and shnsajax. That gives us 12 teams, so there's still room for two more.
  6. There was a somewhat similar doubleheader played every year back in the 80s and maybe into the 90s. It was Indiana, Purdue, Kentucky, and Louisville (Notre Dame was odd team out). It was called the Big Four Classic and was also played in Indianapolis. I believe it was a rotating matchup of Indiana schools vs. Kentucky schools.
  7. And now it turns out that he tore a thumb ligament in the fight and is done for the year.
  8. Nothing like a lineup with only 8 players (no CF). That's a sure-fire way to help in the Fecal League standings.
  9. Seems like placing Johnson on the DL is the standard move whenever a roster spot needs to be cleared.
  10. Jones will undergo surgery and try to come back in 2011. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5462016
  11. I didn't see an actual transaction listing for this, but it appears (to the surprise of probably nobody) that Hoffpauir has been sent back to Iowa with Lee returning from the bereavement list.
  12. Apparently now done, for a PTBNL and cash considerations.
  13. There is an opening if at least one other person indicates an interest to keep the league at an even number of teams. That's a requirement of Yahoo for head-to-head leagues.
  14. I thought you were Larry. :D
  15. I'm sure he's talking about spending big bucks on 4 new mediocre relievers. Fixed.
  16. I'm going to the Bears' game at Carolina on Oct. 10.
  17. I've sent an invitation to evv98. If he's still interested that would make 10 members. I set the limit to 14, so there's still room for up to 4 more. I'll have to add any more teams two at a time to make sure that the league has an even number of teams (a requirement for all head-to-head leagues). The draft is set for Wednesday, Aug. 25, so the league needs to be finalized before then.
  18. If I remember isn't he related (cousin sticks in my mind) to the Mateo who pitched for the Cubs a few years ago?
  19. The draft order is already set. The end of the season standings will determine the order of the prospect draft. We have only set the order for the major league portion of the draft. Last season the both draft orders were set at this time, not the end of the season for the prospect draft. I think that might be where some of the confusion comes from. At least I didn't know anything different was set for the prospect draft this season. You're right about last year, but for this year we decided some time ago (I believe when Juan was still around) to use separate deadlines for the two drafts. I think that was to ensure that whoever has the worst record for the season gets something.
  20. AAA Tacoma manager Daren Brown will finish the season as interim manager. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100809&content_id=13232624&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb
  21. Seattle's at #4 right now and the Cubs are 5.5 games in front of them. Or behind them, depending on perspective.
  22. Woo-hoo! I'm only a half game away from the top pick in the prospect draft now! If only I had lost instead of tying Quakers a few weeks ago I'd be tied for the lead now with total points tie-breaker very much in my favor.
  23. Yeah you're right; I didn't even pay attention to the time of the article before.
  24. Done. You have the weirdest strategy. This is your second move of the season picking up someone who has less HRs than the person you dropped. Needless to say, you're still in the Top 10. Just gut feelings. I think ARod has some sort of nagging injury. He hasn't looked right for awhile. And he missed yesterday's game after getting hit during batting practice. I haven't seen yet whether he's back in the lineup for tonight's game or not.
