  1. And "someone" should be spelled W-I-L-L-I-A-M-S. :D
  2. Please watch your language (I edited it); the use of vulgarity isn't permitted on this board because people of all ages post here.
  3. Yes, he did pitch for the Phillies (I believe last year) after he left the Braves.
  4. I met Ron at tonight's Djaxx-Carolina game. I got there about an hour before the game started (I left earlier than Saturday because I barely got to that game in time due to a major traffic jam caused by construction; tonight there was no delay). Somebody saw my Cubs cap and commented on it. Based on him mentioning it (I didn't know who it was at the time) I said something like "I take it you're a Cub fan too," and he mentioned that he was the Jaxx radio broadcaster. When he said that (after impressing him with the fact I knew his name :D ) I mentioned NSBB. We chatted a minute or so before he had to get up to the booth for the broadcast.
  5. If I'm on vacation somewhere and there's a major league game being played there I'm likely to go to it. Just because it isn't a Cubs game doesn't mean I don't enjoy going to it.
  6. I missed it myself, but so did Len and Bob on the WGN telecast tonight. This must be NSBB Day. :D
  7. I saw that exhibit a couple of years ago when it was at the Field Museum in Chicago. It's definitely worth seeing.
  8. Sounds like the Cubs need to require the players to give up all 20th and 21st century comforts and gadgets. Otherwise Derrek Lee will sneeze while talking on his cell phone and accidentally poke himself in the eye with the phone's antenna.:D
  9. I don't agree that only older Cub fans feel pain; anyone watching the last week of 2004, or games 6 and 7 of the 2003 NLCS, felt pain. Us older fans (I've been following the Cubs since 1969) simply have been feeling the pain longer.
  10. Oliver retired? Oh, no; there goes this year and the next several.
  11. My initial understanding (based on Ryne Sandberg's autobiography, Second To Home) was that it was Himes' decision not to re-sign Maddux. However, I've later read (both on this board and in the book The Million to One Team) that the Trib refused to allot Himes the money it would take. By that time the Cubs had signed some other free agent pitchers (I believe Jose Guzman and Randy Myers, and maybe Greg Hibbard as well, although I'm not sure if he signed with the Cubs that season or a different season). Basically, the money that would have gone to Maddux had been spent by then and the Trib wouldn't increase the payroll (unlike last year, when they gave Hedry extra money specifically to sign Maddux).
  12. Sounds like the Cubs need to start inserting a clause in player contracts limiting their off-season computer time. :D
  13. Just one addition to this thread all day. Must be an off day or something. :D
  14. I'm going to the second and third games of the Washington series, so maybe I'll see his debut.
  15. You can add a 2003 autographed pocket schedule by Dusty Baker as well. :P That can be a booby prize for whoever finishes dead last in the contest. :D
  16. MacPhail was still the GM then (Hendry was the assistant). If I recall, however, I think Hendry was generally credited for the trade.
  17. OK, not quite THAT literally. I meant until the pitcher was actually injured, as opposed to just tired.
  18. In the case of Fox that's true literally, not just figuratively. :(
  19. You join Premium (if you haven't already), then PM Tim and ask him to change it.
  20. I'd call up Kelton and go with a normal 11-man pitching staff.
  21. Why did he have to be remaned? What happened to his original mane?
  22. Furthermore, if Wood is going to come out of the game anyway, why risk injury by having him hit? That's one of the few situations I wouldn't mind sacrificing an at-bat by using Macias if Dusty wanted to save the real pinch hitters for later in the game.
  23. I'm not willing to give up on this season. After nearly a century without a title the Cubs finally appeared to be on the verge of ending the drought. Sliding back into mediocrity now is NOT an option. In each of the last two years an NL team changed managers in the midseason and rallied under new leadership to make the playoffs. Maybe this year the Cubs will be that team. Yes, I've officially joined the Dusty Busters.
  24. No it didn't.
