  1. I believe Rick and Paul combined for a shutout that year (I don't remember if it was 1977 specifically, but it was around that time).
  2. Actually the shutout was Monday; yesterday was the rainout. Had Hawk not pitched today he might have been rusty by Friday, since he would have last pitched on Sunday. I'm sure his pitching today was just to get him some work.
  3. They did with Prior, and also I think with Gonzalez.
  4. And more important than the effect on Greg's ERA, the game would not have gone into extra innings (assuming everything else played out the same, which isn't a given).
  5. And it really should have only been two, if the umpire hadn't incorrectly called the runner safe at first.
  6. Another quote from the same article: Even the Cubs are saying he might be out for an extended period. I know the official report is sprained knee, but I believe that was also the initial report on Patterson's injury. Doesn't sound good. At least it's at a position with a good replacement, but somebody would then have to come up and fill the void on the bench. Would this be Ben Grieve's ticket back to the majors, I wonder?
  7. It would never work. Too often offensive and pitching changes are tied to each other (e.g. pinch hitting, double switches) for those decisions to be able to be made independently by different coaches.
  8. Wilkerson: Hit for the cycle yesterday, 4 for 5 today. And on one of my fantasy teams. :D
  9. The deadline has passed. Entries are now final.
  10. Just a reminder that the final deadline for entering this contest or changing any of your predictions is midnight Central time tomorrow. The thread will be locked then.
  11.
  12. Mendoza Line Mob: C--Brad Ausmus (74) 1B--Eric Hinske (71) 2B--Craig Counsell (84) 3B--Alex Gonzalez (50) SS--Alex Gonzalez (68 ) LF--Juan Encarnacion (51) CF--Tike Redman (67) RF--Jacque Jones (35) P1--Shawn Estes (124) P2--Chan Ho Park (46) Total--670 I just couldn't resist having both Alex Gonzaleses on my team. :D
  13. Merely putting him on the DL isn't a cause for concern. Yahoo mentioned that the Cubs target April 12 for his first start. He could be placed on the 15-day DL and still be eligible to pitch April 12.
  14. If you think that's bad, somebody on this board said the Cubs would win 50 to 60 games this year in a poll. Of course, that could just be wishful thinking from one of our resident Cardinal fans. :D
  15. Here are the WINNING picks. :D Team Predictions 1. 94 wins. 2. 10 wins. 3. 810 runs. 4. 625 earned runs. 16. Whether we like it or not injuries will happen (they do for all teams), hopefully just not as bad last year. Therefore I have stickied this thread. Like last year the sticky will be removed at the end of the season.
  17. Admittedly he has only one appearance so far, but if it is any indication Borowski may have been a good pick for me. A couple of rookie stud possibilities: Dallas McPherson and, if he can beat out Biggio, Chris Burke.
  18. My sleeper pick is Borowski. I picked him in a later round hoping for a comeback season from him. I also have Patterson, Rusch, Hawkins, and Hairston on my team and Pinto on my minor league roster (keeper league). No homerism here. :D
  19. I really enjoyed reading the interview. I'm especially glad that it seems like Guzman is back on track and fully healthy. Hopefully that will continue.
  20. I definitely encourage participation. A lot of great prizes, and no cost to enter other than the cost of Premium membership (which gives you added features and content beyond the contest).
  21. Paging Outshined_One. It looks like we have a new set of BlameWGN scapegoats.
  22. Welcome, stranger. Nice to see you finally found the REAL Cubs board. :D Now, maybe you can recruit our other fantasy league members who haven't found their way here yet (especially Dokta and Cindy).
  23. And if I'm not mistaken you were Cheesehead Cubs Fan in my fantasy baseball league this past year. Ironically there's a different poster with that same screen name on this board.
  24. Hmm, Dusty having a problem with his own moves. Quite intriguing. :D
  25. I hope he enjoys his conversation with Kenny Williams. :D
