  1. Thanks for enhancing our forum by taking our questions. Is there much emphasis placed in the minors on developing skills such as holding runners on, fielding, bunting, etc.?
  2. Eric, Did the prospect of playing with your brother in Chicago influence your decision to sign with the Cubs rather than returning to Georgia Tech, or do you think you would have signed anyway? Thanks for answering our questions. We appreciate having participation from future Cubs.
  3. He's a worthless bum. He's so bad that his career major league BA fell 500 points in one game. :D
  4. I may be glad I picked up Murton for my team a few weeks ago when nobody had him on their roster. Who else can claim they have a player with a career major league batting average of 1.000? :D
  5. Prophetic call. Murton's debut was great. Can't beat a 1.000 career batting average (with a sacrifice fly on top of that). Good things happen to players who answer questions from NSBB members. :D
  6. You could always rescind the offer if somebody hasn't responded before you're ready to leave. I did that once in a Yahoo league because I was going to be without Internet access for about a week and I didn't want my roster changing on me when I wasn't around to set my lineup after a trade.
  7. When Patterson and Dubois were sent down to Iowa, two players needed to be removed from Iowa's roster to make room for them. Hoffpauir being sent to West Tenn was one of those moves (releasing Hubbard was the other). I anticipate that he'll be back in Iowa when Patterson and/or Dubois is called back up (or traded).
  8. Patterson still has options remaining, so he had to clear revocable players (as opposed to irrevocable waivers, which would have been required if he were out of options). Revocable waivers are the type required to trade a player after July 31. Many teams place many players on revocable waivers as a matter of routine, and it isn't very common for another team to claim a player placed on revocable waivers. Perhaps the Cubs also placed some other players on revocable waivers and other teams therefore wouldn't have realized the intent. I don't think placing a player on revocable waivers is public information, so we don't know if Patterson was the only one or not.
  9. If Ron's right about Murton and Greenberg getting plenty of playing time I'll feel a lot better about their promotions.
  10. Maybe not. The cubs.com articleabout tonight's demotions mentioned the same thing.
  11. So Hill will have played at A, AA, AAA, and the majors in half a season. I doubt many players can say that.
  12. I think I've figured it out. Dusty is actually competing on a baseball version of the reality show "Fire Me, Please," and he needs to get fired by the All-Star break in order to win. :D
  13. Actually that's not true. He started three games for the Red Sox before going back on the DL, but he wasn't effective (1-2, 8.15 ERA).

  15. Agreed. I couldn't have put it any better myself. :D
  16. You're right about both of them; in fact, they're back-to-back series in late August (with an off day in between). For some reason I was thinking there was only one home series against each team and that they'd already played the Braves in Chicago. Next time maybe I should actually check the schedule before making such a post. :D
  17. A whole inning and he only gave up two walks and one run? I think that's his best performance of the year.
  18. Typical Beckett, getting hurt again his very first game back from his previous injury.
  19. It may wind up being changed into a straight twi-night doubleheader then.
  20. I voted for Oswalt too. I may not think much of him as a person, but I thought he was the most deserving among the candidates. Besides, what would be sweeter than an Astros pitcher perhaps getting the win in the All-Star Game and therefore giving the Cubs home field advantage in the World Series? :D Of course, the Cubs would actually have to MAKE the World Series for that to do any good.
  21. Welcome. It's good to have another broadcaster from the Cubs' system here.
  22. We need to hope that DOESN'T happen; it would create a scheduling mess possibly even worse than last year (when the Cubs didn't have any off days the last few weeks of the season due to make-up games). I don't think the Cubs are scheduled to play either team the rest of the season after this week, so any games not played this week would need to be rescheduled during mutual off-days. If we have to do this for both the Braves and Marlins it could be a mess.
  23. http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/images/covers/coveri/WBD016768.jpeg Trouble with a capital T and that rhymes with D and that stands for Dusty.
  24. I think you mean Acosta. Oscar Zamora was the Cubs' closer for a year or two back in the 70s.
