  1. You're probably thinking of 2005. He had a career-best 1.87 ERA (which led the league) and also led the league in ERA+ and hits per 9 innings but only had a 13-8 record.
  2. If they were planning to call up any players not currently on the 40-man roster it would make sense to place Colvin and Soto on the 60-day DL rather than 15. I can't see any reason to put somebody on the 15-day list since that doesn't impact the 40-man roster and the 25-man is no longer in effect.
  3. I actually have Brees, Vick, and Orton on one of my teams (replace Brees with Rivers on my other team). I anticipate trading one of them at some point now that Vick as starter seems permanent.
  4. You forgot Cincinnati at Carolina at 1:00.
  5. Looks like I'm off to a 2-0 start. Helps to have an opponent whose QB options were Kevin Kolb and Josh Johnson.
  6. In one of my leagues this week my opponent's QBs were Kevin Kolb and Josh Johnson. Ouch (for him, that is). He can't even pick the right Tampa Bay QB named Josh. :D
  7. I disagree. The Bears have had some VERY offensive coordinators in recent years. Just not the meaning of the word "offensive" that you were thinking of. :D
  8. I don't know that detail, but it seems likely to me that player would still be champion. If they're going to determine a batting average based on hypothetical outs I don't know why there would be a cutoff point. If a batter is so far ahead of the next that he could bear that many outs and still be ahead he probably deserves it.
  9. That actually is the rule, and has been for as long as I can remember. I don't know if it's ever happened, but for example if a player is 5 plate appearances short, and his recalculated batting average based on an assumed 0 for 5 would still lead the league, he is the batting champion.
  10. Everyone on the team has looked like crap except Smith and Kasay. The line is awful at pass and run blocking, so Williams and Stewart haven't done anything and Moore's been running for his life and making awful decisions. The defense looked hideous against Josh Freeman (who admittedly, seems like he might actually be pretty good). About the only thing they have been able to do is be decent at run defense. And Fox says he doesn't know who starts at QB on Sunday. For the love of God, don't pull a Quinn/Anderson on me. You yanked Moore from a game that was far from over with 8 minutes left. Please do not throw him back out there with a target on his back now. If the Panthers wanted Moore to keep playing, they should not have yanked him. The missiles are in the air now. I was at the game. They didn't impress me one bit. Starting 0-2, including a loss to Tampa Bay at home, doesn't bode well. My hunch is this is Fox's last season as coach (if he even makes it through the season). I'm going back in three weeks for the Bears' game, which I now see as a very probable win for the Bears.
  11. According to Elias Sports Bureau this was the Cubs' best road trip (minimum of 9 games), in terms of winning percentage, in team history.
  12. I believe I heard Len mention last night that it would be Miller.
  13. Tomorrow may help. The starting lineup will include Snyder, Barney, Castillo, Fuld, Hoffpauir, and Scales among others. Depending on who the other two starters are the Cubs may be lucky to score a run. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100918&content_id=14810310&notebook_id=14810654&vkey=notebook_chc&c_id=chc
  14. Five. Six. 13 Sept thru 18 19 Sept 2010.
  15. And I figured the Nasty Boys might have done it.
  16. Unusual concept, cheerleaders who aren't allowed to cheer.
  17. Of course they suck. They're an ACC team.
  18. I think it's been expected for some time, but now it's official.
  19. http://marlins.mlb.com/images/2010/08/25/yJB9OC5w.jpg Alex Sanabia. Just returning from a five-game suspension.
  20. An update on Marla from last year. I still remember Harry commenting once that it was the first day he'd seen Marla without her shorts on. He didn't mean it the way it sounded; it was a cold day and she was wearing sweats.
  21. I was, then I moved from Kansas to Seattle. :-( This confuses me... Seattle is gorgeous and Kansas is, well, Kansas. I've been to Seattle, and it is very nice (especially since I went during the dry season). Kansas, I'll just say I've never been and I plan to keep it that way. Wait..... what ?? Seattle has a dry season ??? Oh, yeah...... it was on a Wednesday this year, eh? 3:00--3:05 P.M. on a Wednesday afternoon.
  22. Um,http://www.northsidebaseball.com/forum/topic?f=3&t=53784&start=768
  23. In the aftermath of John Blake's "resignation" UNC has hired Charlie Coiner as a defensive assistant coach. Among other jobs Coiner was a member of the Bears' staff from 2001 to 2005, then joined Dick Jauron in Buffalo.
  24. Yeesh. 4 of his 6 seasons (potentially 5 of 7) in the league he has played in fewer than 7 games. This sounds like the same injury he had last year but to the other arm.
